Yummy, instantaneous and reasonably priced! - Edit
I had the special which was spiced cauliflower and it was delicious! Instantaneous as the sandwiches are prepared for the day (but still fresh). The sourdough was lovely and chewy. We also got a vegan choc chip cookie which was great.

Hidden Vegan Lunch Spot! - Edit
Came across Joe's Sandwich Bar after we realised our planned lunch spot was closed, and we were so glad did! Fully vegan, and had six vegan sandwiches on a menu as well as a few specials.
Read moreI opted for the Chilli Broccolini, and my friend went for the Smokey Potato - Both were absolutely delicious and relatively affordable. I appreciate that they are so creative with veggies, rather than the typical mock meat options!
I also got a vegan chocolate chip cookie, however it was quite burnt.
Note that there is very limited seating inside, more of a grab-and-go lunch spot in the CBD.

Nice Sandwiches - Edit
This is a very popular place, there was a line going out onto the street, and the sandwiches were flying out the door. The queue goes down fast as sandwiches are pre made so service is quick.
Read moreWe got the Chipotle Pumpkin and the Tempeh Reuben. They were quite nice, not the most flavoursome sandwiches though, and a bit pricey but that may be down to the city location, rents won't be cheap. For the price I would have appreciated a bit more filling and flavour.

Pretty good sandwich - Edit
Pretty tasty sandwich & very full. The bread was the stand out for me really soft & tasty. The aubergine was nice but I didn’t get but miso flavour. I’d go back though for sure.

Disappointing - Edit
Super disappointing. Basically overpriced pre-made cold sandwiches that lack flavor. The tempeh could not be cut any thinner. The guy bragged they make them in less than an hour and it takes like it. Would be so much better if they even heated them, but lacking in every way

WOW - Edit
I visited when I was absolutely starving one day. Left more than satisfied and with a huge grin on my face. Sandwiches are so full of flavour and cookie that perfect salty sweet choc cookie. Big yes from me!

Such friendly vibes and the only Vega in the village ! Yummy sandwich choices - hard to decide- but I had the Smokey Tempe Reuben. Bread crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle and soaking up some of that golden mayo.

Winner Winner Sandwich Dinner - Edit
Cute vibe, super quick service, and well priced for a huge sandwich with vegan ingredients! The tempeh Reuben was AMAZING! So great to see something like this in Sydney that is similar to my regular Smith & Deli in Melbourne. I want to come back and try everything! Bonus points for Cher blasting on the speakers the week of Mardi Gras!

Totally overrated. - Edit
I tried eating here twice before and failed, since they usually close or run out of stock before their declared opening hours. The bread tastes a bit doughy, maybe not enough salt, but still pretty good. I ordered four different sandwiches to see if I liked any of them, and I felt like I paid for two huge slices of bread on each and a bit of a salad: almost no tempeh, the eggplant tasted "meh", and my husband didn't like any of their options. I think I still left half of the bread after eating, and never went back.

Cons: Bad opening hours, Not all options available, runs out of stock, Too much bread and salad, not enough filling

Delicious but perhaps I was unlucky! - Edit
I love fully vegan places and this one is great. I got the Tempeh Reuben; AMAZING soft and fluffy sourdough bread, fresh and crunchy coleslaw…HOWEVER for $13.50 they definitely could’ve added a few more tempeh strips (there were maybe only 2 tiny thin strips in mine). When looking at other peoples’ photos, it seems I was unlucky as other Tempeh Reubens look like they pack a punch of tempeh.

Brutalist venue, wholesome sandwich - Edit
My title refers to the unique design of this shop. It's like a narrow concrete cave with few furnishings. I imagine when they close the place looks abandoned. I guess this is cutting edge in old sydney town, and I haven't quite decided if I hate it. What I am certain about, is that I hate ACDC and that's what they were playing non stop inside. But onto the topic of the food which is more important!
Read moreI looove tempeh so I knew exactly what I'd be getting based on the other reviews mentioning the tempeh reuben, but I can't deny I was tempted by the whole sandwich selection! Sourdough is one of the worst breads in the world, and I wish they had an alternative bread, but I exercised my jaw to gnaw my way through it and was rewarded with the hearty and delicious filling. I also treated myself to a cookie, very coconutty but satisfying.
I will be back, perhaps with BYO pane di casa if that doesn't get me thrown out.

Joe’s Sandwiches are amazing! The Tempeh Ruben was exceptional and the BLAT was equally as good. The bread was so fresh as well. Will definitely come back here for lunch during our time in Sydney!

Great vegan sandwich - Edit
Joes is a small takeaway cafe that states it closes at 3 -I got there at 2 and it looked ready to shut down. They only had one type of sandwich available- the Reuben so I bought one .. all pre-made plus a cookie. They preferred cash but couldn’t break a $50 bill so reluctantly took my credit card. The Reuben was huge and quite good. Loved the bread , generous amount of mustard. The cookie only had 2 chocolate chunks in it and was pretty oily.

Excellent sammies! - Edit
Killer sandwiches! Honestly might be some of my favorite vegan food from this trip. It is worth mentioning that at least when I went, the sandwiches are not made to order. The create a certain amount and then sell those, so show up earlier rather than later if you’re hoping for the full menu selection.
