Wonderful all vegan discovery in Norfolk.

We had the Kuku and Samaki sandwiches. The Kush filling (a blend of grains with seasoning and vegan mayo) was new to us but was delicious and very satisfying. Having grown up enjoying deserts with dairy I have really missed the richness of those desserts until I visited Jakoni Café. The banana pudding was AMAZING and easily as good as the dairy desserts I remember. The shakes were equally amazing.

Our wait for the food was a little longer than we expected but the owner saw us waiting and was very engaging and welcoming.

We tried the Jikoni Café while visiting Norfolk and plan to make it a stop EVERY time we pass through Norfolk. It was only a mile from the Chrysler Museum of Art.

Pros: Delicious food., Amazing desserts and shakes, Friendly staff.

Great Vegan Option w/creative menu

The food was great! The Tamu Thai sauce was surprisingly good, I could easily eat this every day. The milk shakes are expensive, but the rest of the food is priced well. This is a great Vegan option in the area. #Veganuary

Pros: Taste, Options, Did I mention taste?

So many vegan possibilities

The customer service was great when ordering. The jibini (Alfredo) sauce was flavorful, but the peppers, onions and other ingredients were weird and not necessary. My food came out cold. The chocolate milkshake was delicious. Originally I was going to give 4 stars, but the raw onion and bell peppers and the other ingredients make the leftovers inedible. The ingredients have soaked up the sauce making it a thick paste. The sauce and pasta by itself would have been a better option.

Best Vegan Burrito

Although I can't claim that I've had all that many, the jikoni kysh inside their burrito is next level!!

Pros: All vegan, Black-owned business

Cons: 'Kush' on the menu caused drug test paranoia

Weirdest experience of my life

I’ve never felt more unwelcome at a place in my life. I walked in, after driving for like 20 minutes to get here, excited to try this new place that my friend recommended, and walked to the food counter. No one was there so I waited patiently for maybe 5 minutes, and when no one came over I went to the other counter where there was a guy standing and asked him how to order. He then directed me to talk to another lady because “she might know”. I wasn’t even irritated at this point, just confused.
So I walked over, where she was talking to another person, and waited. Once she was done I went to ask her and she says, in the rudest possible way, “I’ll be with you in a second” and goes and does something else. She turns back to me and I finally get to ask how ordering food works, and she shoots daggers at me with her eyes and says “I’m busy right now I’ll get to you when I can.”
Its hard to communicate tone here, but when I say I’ve never been talked to like that in a place of business, I mean it. So I just said ok, waited another minute or two, and decided to leave because if you can’t be respectful to people who walk in, I really don’t want to support your business. I am pretty much always a 5 star reviewer but walking into this place just left me feeling like crap, aside from the fact that I didn’t even get food because no one wanted to serve me 😂
Its understandable to be busy but you could at least be respectful when you deliver the message.

The Rasta sauce will blow your mind!

Passing through Norfolk a bit after 7pm and there was a beacon in the night! Jikoni Cafe was the ONLY vegan restaurant open and we were so happy to find it! The woman who helped us was super nice and we ordered the Nacho Supreme and a full Major Jikoni Kush Pocket, the portions are huge!! The Rasta sauce that came with our sandwich was mind-blowingly delicious, I put it on everything! I will definitely be back for the nachos and rasta sauce next time we're in town.

Unique food and culture

The menu was small but had diverse options, most based on the kush grain as its base. The restaurant doubles as an African-culture bookstore and general store with really cool art and info-posters about the continent's history and people. Overall the food was good but not great. Still worth a look!

It was okay.

Ok so the business itself is wonderful. They sell stones, jewelry, sage, natural products. Great stuff, Great energy but my burrito was not the best aswell as the pizza. I will try something different next time. Don't get me wrong it was good but it could be better. Now the shakes and smoothies is where it's at. Absolutely love shakes. They also sell CDB products and super helpful people. Definitely recommend this place. It's a unique gem here in Norfolk.

Pros: It's all vegan 💜

Delicious!

Went there to pick up dinner but ended up staying to eat there as we really wanted to try the shakes (hooray - all vegan)! So very happy we did. Husband had a burrito & I had the chilli special, both super tasty. Even better were the shakes... butter pecan & salted caramel. Yum! 😋 Highly recommend you indulge as well!

Pros: 100% Vegan

Really great food!

This was seriously a delicious meal. I got a vegan milkshake and the jikoni kush pocket. The milkshake was super yummy and not too sweet, which I like. I got the cheesecake flavor.
The pocket was huge and enough for two meals. It was super flavorful. I made it Rasta, which was both the jerk sauce and the “Alfredo” sauce. Excellent combination.
The staff was also very friendly, and since it was my first time, were happy to make recommendations. They also sell vegan bakes goods from local bakeries.
I would definitely give this place a try, and hope to get back there before I head back home up north.

Pros: Excellent food, Large portions, Great options

PLEASE DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS PLACE!!!

PLEASE DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS PLACE!!!

On April 9th 2020. I ordered $98.00 worth of food from this establishment and never got it!!! I called many times to see what was the problem, however the lady in charge kept blowing me off!!! Long story short…I came out on the short end of the stick and Jikoni’s kept my money and I never got my food!!! So, I am WARNING you…DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS PLACE!!!!

Pros: The food is just ok.

Cons: THE PLACE WAS DIRTY AND THE SERVICE WAS THE WORST!

Would never go back 😒

Went with a group of five people and we ordered four different things including the burrito and pizza which had great reviews. Pizza was the weirdest thing - like a crust topped with a bunch of tasteless rice. Everyone disliked their food with the exception of the burrito being neutral? The one Smoothie was pretty good but too sweet. Everything seemed way overpriced. When we went there was some sort of sermon going on, which made it way too loud for us to eat there. People were not friendly. Yuk - wanted to really like this place!

Cons: Overpriced, No taste, Unfriendly

New favorite place!

I had the nachos supreme and it was so good that while I was demolishing it someone from another table had to come over and ask what it was so they could order it too. My husband devoured the Jamaican jerk kush pocket without ever even putting it back down. The portions are huge and more than enough for the price. They also have a big list of vegan milkshakes we want to try next time!

the burrito i got was pretty good besides the fact that i wasn’t a huge fan of some of the seasonings in it. i also go a chocolate chip cookie (they sell them prepackaged) and it was TO DIE FOR!! it’s dope that they’re a fully vegan cafe and the ambience is very cool
