吉緣, 竹北市文興路一段42號, offers a variety of Taiwanese veggie food like fried noodles, fried rice, individual hot pots, dumplings and various appetizers. Specialty is sizzling noodles. Mostly vegan.
The food: I ordered “beef” noodles on my first visit and got a large bowl with a super tasty and convincing mock beef. On my second visit I got the specialty dish without egg which was a new combination for me: spaghetti, ketchup, a delicious mushroom gravy, and boiled or steamed greens on a sizzling hot plate. It was tasty but too sweet for my taste.
The service: There is no English menu, and the way the menu is laid out makes it difficult to use Google Translate on it. To order, take a menu card and mark what you want, then take the menu card and your payment back to the kitchen to order. Take silverware, etc. from the cabinet at the back of the main seating area, then wait for your food to come out to you. On my first a helpful staff member spoke enough English to help me order what I wanted, but he wasn’t there the second time I came.
So the service is minimal but once you get used to that the food is good value for the money.
This place has a pretty good menu.l, but no English so you'll need to translate. I got a bento it was cheap and tasty. I plan on gong back when I have more time.

Hot plate noodles - Edit
Hot plate noodles, strongly recommended. But you need to stir it when served, otherwise the bottom would be burned.
