Good vegan options, mediocre service

Food was very good. Our waitress was good but slow. The busboys were rude, slow and wore some weird shirts. One wore a shirt with "Punani Patrol" written on it . . . Google Punani for the translation.

Lovely patio ambiance

I had the chile edamame, veggie tempura, and tofu plate. All was nice - not amazing for foodies, but appreciated how easy it was to find vegan options without having to modify anything.

Pros: Lovely patio setting, Friendly and attentive server , Live music

Cons: Expensive for the portion size

Disturbingly bad

Over $100 later....
We ordered 3 tofu steaks, avo rolls, ume rolls, and tempura. The tofu was unflavored, except for the scallions they had on it, which was supposed to be free of onion. It was supposed to be on a bed of tat soi, it was on really old and sad lettuce that was NOT edible and even had bugs in it. There was a lot of food that could not be eaten...
We had placed our order on site and took to-go d/t it being busy and required a res (no problem for us). We waited along the long sidewalk that goes from the kitchen to the backyard seating. The staff, some of the runners would bad mouth the customers, fellow staff, the live musician, and harsh the vibe overall. The host was kind and seemed to have a lot on their plate.
The live musician was great.
The takeout though was an insult. Put this on the avoid list.

Pros: musician, host was kind

Cons: tofu was inedible, the green bait and switch, the rest of the staff/runners, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Worth the stop

We tried the avocado poke bowl, tofu bento bowl, seaweed salad, veggie roll and the grandma’s veggie futomaki (hold the egg). Amazing!! Cool vibe in the place too. Service was excellent despite other reviews to the contrary.

Pros: Great food, plenty of vegan options, Service

Clearly labeled, fresh, and tasty

We had lunch twice at Japanese Grandma’s while visiting Kauai. Everything is clearly labeled so it is easy to order vegan food. We loved the food, and there were more options than I was expecting. The bento bowl for lunch was particularly nice and filling. You have the option to pay a bit more to add avocado and brown rice
to the bowl.

Great food, slow service.

They have a few good vegan options like a vegan sushi burrito, bento bowl with tofu, avocado poke bowl, etc. We had the tofu bento and it was great with added avocado and tempura. The only bad thing about this place was the very slow service. Took about an hour and a half total to get our stuff and pay.

Yummy

This is a yummy sushi place that is worth trying out! Some of the other sushi we had on the island made my husband sick, but not this place. The service wasn’t great when we went, but we think that was because a celebrity was there when we went and got most of the attention from the service staff.
