Nice vibe, good vegan options - Edit
Popped in for breakfast and had a tofu scramble and as yet the best cuppa we’ve found in America. Staff were all pleasant and attentive, place had a nice vibe.

Excellent smoked tofu hash - Edit
We stopped for brunch and the restaurant and outside patio were pretty full, even in a Monday. There were about 4 or 5 clearly marked vegan dishes on the menu so we decided on the vegan Tempeh Huevos Rancheros and the smoked tofu and veggie hash. The huevos rancheros were very been forward and I didn’t really find the tempeh but it was a nice spice level. We opted out of the added avocado but in hindsight it would probably have been a nice addition. The smoked tofu and veggie hash was the star. A bed of shredded hash browns topped with slightly smoky tofu and roasted veggies. It was honestly one of the best vegan brunch items I’ve had. It was a little greasy and a little salty but super tasty.

Good but not fantastic - Edit
We went there for brunch. The portions were quite large, but a bit on the salty side. The taste was ok, not bad, but also not memorable in any way.

Tempeh Huevos Rancheros is the star - Edit
There’s three vegan meal options and they are both good in flavor: the tofu scramble & tofu hash comes with tarragon aioli which is a unique touch, the Tempeh Huevos Rancheros is easily the best of the trio, that’s a rare thing to see on a breakfast restaurant.
Read moreOther than that, you could customize a few of the things on the menu but it becomes a little more standard fare.
It’s always packed, some come early or prepare to wait.

Jammin’ - Edit
Ventured to Jam on a Friday morning with a friend who has been here several times before. We got seated right away, but it was quite busy. Thank goodness for ample seating.
Read moreWe were greeted quickly by our server who gave us the specials and her recommendations. We got our coffee and they had an option of oat milk creamer, which was great.
I ordered Vegan Huevos Rancheros with avocado and my friend got a scramble. Both dishes came heaping and were delicious, even the leftovers.
Service was good, friendly, but brief.
I would definitely come here again next time I'm in town. #Veganuary
Pros: Many vegan options. , Good for groups.
Cons: On weekends it can be a long wait.

Wonderful brunch spot - Edit
The food was delicious. I got the golden milk drink with soy milk and the tofu and veggies scramble which was so flavorful! They smoked th tofu which turned out so well and I haven't had that before. The hashbrowns were perfectly crispy as well.

Vegans, don't bother. - Edit
I came here with my family because it was consistently listed in several lists for vegan breakfast places to try out. Those lists are a sham, this place, for a vegan, is not good.
Read moreThe non-vegan foods here look amazing and delicous, visually and from reading the menu. That is a stark contrast to to the vegan items on the menu, they did not read as appealing and were much more limited than expected. Even worse, our food tasted like a home cook trying to make vegan food for the first time, it was BLAND. The tofu scramble was not well seasoned, the wrap, despite having various components inside, was flavorless. Looking around at other diners' non-vegan plates, they looked so good. I couldn't believe the disparity in quality.
This place is probably great for non vegans, but for vegans, avoid.
Pros: Friendly
Cons: Vegan options leave much to be desired

Vegan Options! - Edit
My parents (omnivores) & I (vegan) visited Jam for brunch today &, despite the obvious popularity & corresponding wait (which was quite accurately quoted), & the general noise in & outside the restaurant, had an overall lovely experience. Our service was consistently friendly & courteous throughout (no small feat with their volume of customers), & I was pleased that our server was able to clarify the difference between the execution of the Vegan Scramble & the Smoked Tofu & Vegetable Hash without any hesitation or eye roll. My parents both enjoyed their meals (French Toast & a egg-based scramble), & I found the Smoked Tofu & Vegetable Hash very filling & flavorful without being overly salty, oily, or greasy. I don't often search out breakfast food in Portland as it's simply easy to replicate at home, but I will say Jam exceeded my expectations & I appreciate that they have a very clearly-defined menu for vegans. I've not had a better vegan brunch from a non-vegan restaurant in Portland. I look forward to returning!

Not My Jam - Edit
I ordered the Two Egg Breakfast with scrambled tofu, sourdough toast, hash browns, and tempeh. The tofu was very dry. The tiny container of vegan butter was not enough for the toast. The hash browns were bland. The tempeh had a smoky maple flavor. Overall, the meal was filling, but slightly disappointing. My partner's Fancy Oatmeal Chai Blueberry Pancakes looked better than they tasted.

Great gluten free vegan food here. And they closed the whole street to make a patio for this place. Portlandia at its best.

Pretty decent! - Edit
Good amount of vegan options. They only had daiya cheese, though. Which I think was pretty ok melted, but still. The waiter was literally the chillest waitstaff I’ve ever had. Came over with a drink in his hand (his own drink, that he was sipping out of). Couldn’t be bothered. An icon 😂

better than expected - Edit
Based on prior reviews, I thought the vegan accommodations here might be rather bland or grudging and I found it a bit better than expected. The tempeh hash I ordered was a delicious and filling option that came in a volume I haven't seen since the likes of in the last few years.
Read moreLike many places lately, they do try to railroad you into their digital ordering portal, which is not nearly as well labeled for vegan items are their menu. Awesome breakfast - Edit
We were visiting Portland and were told not to miss Jam on Hawthorne. When we first arrived, there was an hour+ wait for an outside table, but we had copies of our vaxx cards and were able to be seated indoors immediately. Coffee was brought quickly with oat milk, and after looking at the menu, we decided to order the smoked tempeh huevos rancheros and the BBQ tempeh hash. Both servings were delicious and very large. We shared each others' breakfasts, trying to decide which one we liked best. Great attentive service. Will definitely be back on our next trip

Bland Scramble but still satisfying. - Edit
I’m surprised by all the reviews saying how delicious the food is. We thought the scramble was very bland and even the hot sauce couldn’t really save it. Still, the hashbrowns were good and the meal itself was satisfying.

Loved it! - Edit
I cannot say enough positive things about this place! It was super busy when we got there but it's big enough that it doesn't feel tight or uncomfortable. I loved all the options, especially all the different flavors for mimosas! I got the tofu scramble with hashbrowns&toast, a chai blueberry pancake, and my boyfriend got the biscuits and gravy. I didn't try this because the gravy has dairy in it but he wolfed it down! Mine was delicious as well and the portions were very satisfying. I've never seen a pancake so huge! All in all, great environment, food, and price!
