Best Japanese in Grand Rapids

When I am craving some Japanese inspired meals, I visit Jaku. This location is housed in the Knapp's Corner area of Grand Rapids. Being their second and larger Jaku location, this restaurant took everything to love about Jaku's original Caledonia, MI, location and grew it in size.

Jaku has many vegan options on their menu. They have vegetable and tofu hibachi that is the best hibachi in Grand Rapids (just make sure to specify no spicy mayo or it will come with it on the side). And make sure to opt for the side salad, as the miso soup has fish pasta in it. But don't fret because their side salad is the best, most colorful, and packed with flavor side salad I have had at a Japanese restaurant, and the ginger sauce is amazing.

Jaku also hosts all the typical vegetable sushi rolls if you enjoy to eat with your chopsticks. However, if you are feeling a little more causal and a little more adventurous, I recommend eating with your hands and ordering the veggie sushi burrito roll. It is exactly what you expect and it delivers in deliciousness. If you have ever thought that sushi was not enough to fill you up, try this Americanized roll. Or if anything, do it just to say that you have.

The ambiance of the restaurant is trendy and laid-back. They do a good job of feeling intimate while hosting a lot of tables in their dinning area.

If you are looking for a great Japanese restaurant that you can either bring a date for a romantic evening, or a group of friends for an adventurous eating endeavor, try out Jaku!

Pros: Many vegan options, Sushi Burritos, Chill atmosphere

Cons: Not entirely vegan, Miso soup not vegan
