First bad food in Sri Lanka - Edit
We came here because of the good reviews. Unfortunetly it our first very bad expirience after 3 weeks in Sri Lanka. We had the vegan Curry & Rice and it was completely cold and the currys were very greasy & oily and the lentils in the dhal were not cooked long enough. Around 1 1/2 hours after we had the food both of us got very bad stomach ache and we both stayed a long time on the toilet.

Curries were scrumptious and cheapest I’ve seen in Ella (900 LKR for rice and 5 vegetable curries). Owners don’t talk much, but are very sweet. Can recommend!

The only vegan option is rice and curry. But they cook it very well and tasteful. I enjoyed the food and a papaya juice.

This was a typical Sri Lankan restaurant like many others that aren’t on Happy Cow with no choices that are clearly labelled as vegan. I had the vegetable kottu and the mango juice and it was very good. I can recommend going there but it was nothing special. But the staff was friendly and the food was very cheap!

I really enjoyed the awesome curries at this nice place in Ella. Also the mango chutney and popadoms were so tastie. The staff are so happy to serve and there is plenty of vegan food to choose from. Highly recommend

5 star veg rice and curry - Edit
So far one of, if not, the best rice and curry meals I’ve had in Sri Lanka. This place deserves more love as it gets nowhere near the customers of neighbouring places. This is probably as the entrance is not that obvious and it is positioned above an ATM which often has queues that you need to navigate around. It’s up the green staircase to the right of the ATM. The food was brilliant and got the spice level right. I am finding many restaurants in tourist towns seem to fill their food down to meet the “I don’t like spicy food” crowd. Jade Green keep in real and the service is very kind. Current price for Veg Rice and Curry is 900 rupees. You’re unlikely to find better value in Ella.

Read moreNope, never made it to any other places because the VEGGIE CURRY COMBO is absolutely ridiculous, so tasty, so much food, unbelievably cheap and all five nights I ate here the VCC varied pending on ingredient availability. Each night and each meal was better than the previous.
The couple that owns this place are lovely, so kind and adorable, I left a huge tip every night and the bill was still cheaper than eating elsewhere with no tip. When I look back on my month long trip in Sri Lanka and all the meals I had, my mind, heart and stomach will always take me back to Green Jade. Can not recommend enough. Wonderful.

Great rice and curry, vegan on request - Edit
Quiet restaurant on the second floor, access by the stairs on the right side of the building. A few vegetarian options on the menu, which can be made vegan (or are already coincidentally vegan). I had the rice and curry which included a very large portion of rice with many delicious curries at a good price.

When I stopped in I was the only person there, the restaurant is pretty quiet, I believe because it's not at street level so people don't see it (it's up a level, you walk up the stairs to the right of the restaurant). The owners were very nice, I ordered a juice and the veggie curries with rice and everything was made fresh. I got a huge, very tasty portion. Highly recommend!

We had the rice & curry set and it was really delicious with different kind of vegetable curries. They were not spicy, so if you want a spicy Sri Lankan kick, then you’ll need to ask for it.

The best curry in Ella (and cheap!) - Edit
We came here twice as it was so delicious and such good value for money. For two of us with a soft drink and rice and curry it was 1045 LKR. We had different curries each time and all were delicious - the aubergine was my favourite! Be sure to specify no dairy as I think they sometimes use milk in the veg curry!

Amazing vegan feast - Edit
We came here for our first meal in Ella and it did not disappoint. We ordered the veg curry which is a mix of lots of little dishes of different veg curries and tasty veggies - so good we ordered an extra portion each! The flavours were delicious and lovely clean presentation. You can sit out on the balcony and watch life in Ella pass you by. Really recommend this place. All the vegetarian options are vegan but always check with your server just to make sure.

Best Curry we had in Sri Lanka - Edit
The owners of Jade Grean Tea were super friendly and we felt absolutely welcomed. We were three people and all of us ordered the vegetarian Curry with rice. It was by far the best Curry we had during our time in Sri Lanka. It was super tasty and fresh! I can highly recommend to go there and give it a try! It’s also gluten free!

I have to admit that I dient like Ella at all. But for this restaurant alone we will come back again. The best Rice&Curry of the whole 3 weeks. Went here 3 times for dinner because its that amazing. You have to go there definitely :)

My Boyf and I ventured in here because it was on happy cow. The menu is much the same as all the other restaurants lining the street and nothing particularly veg or vegan jumps out but there's options.
Read moreI ordered the rice and vegie curry but as I don't much like rice she happily substituted it for rotti bread instead. I didn't specify vegan but what came out was an incredible array of vegan curries (6) surrounded by two large rotti breads. Enough for two people! It was incredibly delicious.
My vegie Boyf went for a cheese and tomato sandwich with french fries and was immediately jealous of what I'd ordered. While his food was ok he happily polished off half of my meal as well.
The food took a good 45 mins to arrive so expect a wait but if your ordering local Sri Lankan food you won't be disappointed. She cooks a mean curry!

Delicious vegan friendly food - Edit
Must-visit when in Ella. We asked to make our dishes vegan and they were happy to do it (they even substituted white rice with red rice and cooked salt-free and oil-free curries per our request!). They cook everything from scratch (including coconut milk) and the food is just so delicious. We tried their curries and everything was perfect. Prices are very good, too. Highly recommended.
