Enjoyable dinner - Edit
We enjoyed our meal at Izakai. Staff were very accommodating and confirmed things were vegan when they brought them to the table. Not a con, but something to be aware of - food is very heavy on the oil and saturated fat as it's Māori fusion, which may not be to everyone's taste.

Amazing Food - Edit
Such a beautiful restaurant with delicious Kai. Only tried the Ramen and dumplings but both have so much flavour. Will be back soon for more.

We'll be back! - Edit
We read about the restaurant being a fusion of Japanese and Maori food and thought we'd try something new, not expecting much. The food was actually really nice, the staff was friendly and the prices were quite affordable! For 4 plates of food (only 2 pictured as my partner had non-vegan food) and 2 beers, we paid $107. Not to mention that we were absolutely stuffed too!
Read moreThe karaage tofu and miso ramen was lovely! I expected not to enjoy the buckweat noodles but they were actually nice and well paired with the rest of the veg. The tofu was really nice too, I'd just recommend fishing it out of the ramen soon after you receive the dish, as its coating otherwise starts falling off. The portion is actually massive and you definitely won't need to order anything else to feel full.
However, if you do want to try another dish, I'd highly recommend the riwai! Just don't forget to mention that you'd like to have the vegan version:) I don't even normally like truffles but thought I'd try the dish. The potatoes were so nice and crispy, and they even gave us vegan aioli! Since the dish isn't normally made vegan, I expected for the aioli to simply be excluded from the dish, but was pleasantly surprised when presented with the vegan alternative:) I liked that they served the potato skin too. Not only was waste minimised, but it was also the crispiest part of the dish! The vegan aioli was actually to die for and we'll definitely be back for it. All in all, my partner and I highly recommend!
Pros: Affordable, Friendly staff, Vegan aioli
