Good for lunch

The hot bar and salad bar are available from 11-3 and have a lot of vegan and veg options, though there’s only one vegan salad dressing (aside from oil and vinegar). Also a good selection of local produce—green tags mean Hawaii grown.

Grocery store with great veg options

They have so many baked goods, including banana bread, scones, and cakes. They don’t have as many options as the Hilo location, and they didn’t have any vegan grab-and-go options when we went - maybe they were just out?

So much better than my mainland market vegan options!

How have I never visited this place before? The vegan selection is incredible, and I’m not just talking about grocery items. There are significant amounts of prepared foods all clearly marked as vegan. Each one we tried had fantastic flavors. There were also multiple vegan baked goods options. I counted at least three scone options! When is the last time you had three vegan scone options when you were not at a vegan bakery? 😂

Pros: Vegan staple grocery items, Prepared salads and foods, Clearly marked vegan

Great store!

I was able to get fresh fruits and a couple of vegan protein powders which is a must for me! I am glad they have this store in Kona.

Excellent grab and go vegan options

Oh my gosh, there are more and better vegan baked good, deli, and refrigerated options at this store than at my local Whole Foods or co-op on the mainland! So many great sandwiches, sides, pastries, cookies, etc if you want to have a meal on the go or stay in rather than eating out (this was perfect for us to be able to eat well and healthily between different adventures on the island). Also a nice selection of local chocolates, coffee, etc to take home as souvenirs. Prices are quite expensive.

Pros: Tons of pre-made vegan options

Cons: Expensive

All your vegan favorites

We were in Kona for a week staying at a condo, and after trying to find our vegan favorites at Safeway, we had much better luck at Island Naturals. If you're used to shopping at Whole Foods, you'll find all the standard brands here. Plus, they have a great selection of to-go items, including salads, baked goods, etc. The prices are steeper than at Safeway, but I'm happy to support a vegan-friendly local shop!

OK Selection, High Prices

They have an ok selection of vegan products including soaps and other, but the prices are astronomical compared to the other spots in Kona.

Lots of vegan options

There are lots of vegan options at this market. There is a deli with vegan choices; there is takeaway food (refrigerated) including many dessert items. There are also some baked goods like cinnamon rolls, pumpkin bread, turnovers etc. The grocery section has all the standard offerings. The store carries lots of local produce and other products too.

Great place but pricey!

Large range of vegan options but pricey but I guess that’s just Hawai’i. Nice premade vegan options in the fridges too. We utilised the filtered water machine out the front. 1 gallon for 50c.

Here’s your healthy food hookup 👍🏻

Nice local health food store that has locally grown fruits and vegetables. Scored some amazing Hawaiian mangoes, Okinawa sweet potatoes, and delicious Japanese sweet potatoes. Good source of food for the vegan / vegetarian minded. Yea it’s a few bucks more, but than again your on vacation. Store has a nice chill vibe too.

Great selection, super expensive

On the plus side, they have Miyokos vegan cheese, which I can never find. On the minus side, it’s $13.

Favorite place in Kona

I love Island Naturals so much. I’m always surprised by how many not very well known vegan and gluten free brands/items they carry. Obviously it’s not the same as going to a larger chain, but for Kona this store is a life saver. Also, their vegan chocolate cake with chocolate frosting is one of the best vegan cakes I’ve ever had.

Great store on the BI

What a great find. As soon as I stepped off my plane, I was hungry and searching for a health food store. I spotted this one and was able to get some delicious grinds from their hot bar. A hot bar with a fair amount of vegan food is hard to come by in my home town, so I was in love. My favorite thing: the purple sweet potato pastries 😍. The only reason this place isn’t getting 5 stars is because they close very early-7 to 8pm every day, and they definitely jack the prices on certain things. If you’re looking for gardein products, I recommend checking out target or Walmart first.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Nice vibe , Helpful staff

Cons: Expensive , Weird hours

The best breakfast

Their breakfast hot bar is amazing. I had some of the best tofu scramble ever, with sausage and potatoes and veggies?? I was not expecting such a selection and it was all so delicious.

Love this place!

I've been to the Hilo and Kona locations and they are both great. I've had the breakfast and dinner time hot bar and I loved everything I got. I've also got the prepared food many times and I've only ever not liked one thing I got. The prices are also great here. I got a sandwich for around $7 that made 2 meals. They also have some nice healthy meat options if you are in a mixed diet group. My meat eating husband is happy to eat here. It's a great place to grab lunch and take it for a beach picnic.

Pros: Big selection, Low prices

Cons: Some labels are missing on hot bar

Vegan not so easy

The supermarket was good, the hot bar had NOTHING labelled vegan (all meat of cheese); the pre-made food had no labels on the shelves, so I had to run everything but eventually found vegan.

Pros: Good supermarket

Cons: There might not be vegan food every day

great vegan selection!

The hot deli bar has great labelled vegan options. We also enjoyed the vegan baking; pineapple cake and turnovers. Great selection of faux meats, vegan cheese, vegan yogurt, plant milk. Has all the vegan staples, bread, fruit and veg, personal care items and cleaning supplies. We went to Island Markets in Kona, Hilo and Pahoa and the kona one is quite large.

Good for quick carry-out

We filled up on the hot- and salad bar one day, and there were few substantial vegan options. Garbanzo beans were the only protein, but there was a curried tofu dip in the prepared section. Items were clearly marked vegan, raw, gluten free, and "best by". We returned another day for the prepared peanut sauce, and there were many more vegan options at the hot and salad bars that day.

Pros: Clearly marked deli and salad items, Ample to-go options, Lots of raw and vegan desserts

Cons: More meat and cheese options than vegan at bar

Island Naturals Market

So happy to have found this place. They offer hot meals, as well as a great selection of grab and go, and cold salad type dishes. It has a little bit of everything you'd want or need in a grocery store. Though these food items are a bit on the pricey side, they are all fresh and delicious!

Pros: Vegan Options, Friendly Staff

Best place for vegan options

This supermarket is great for vegans. Lots of choices including fresh take away foods. A great place to stock up on food for the day before heading off around the island (where your choices outside of Kona and Hilo are limited).

Pros: choice, value
