Small restaurant, some vegan options

The menu has a two page vegetarian section, but vegan options are not labeled, so you need to ask.

The waiter seemed knowledgable about which dishes do or don't contain dairy, and reassured us that no eggs are used in the kitchen. Nonetheless, he came with the traditional appetizer, flat bread with sauces, of which one was a yoghurt sauce, but immediately said, 'you cannot eat this'.

We had the fried onions and samosas as appetizer (each 8€). These were fried too hard and were dark brown and rather hard. Some sauce to go with them and the salad would have been nice too. Pity.

After the appetizers, the main dishes took quite a while to be served (about 50 minutes).
Aloo Matar (14€) - vegetable dish with green peas and tomatos, cashews and Baingan Bartha (15€) eggplant with curry, onions and tomato.
On the side we asked for pilau rice (4,50€) and tandoor roti (3€) (no naan bread, as the waiter said it contains milk).
The dishes were served with free cole slaw on the side.
All in all reasonably priced (all main veg dishes ranging from 14-16 euro).

The main dishes were ok, although we have had better and more refined and flavourful indian food.

It's a small restaurant (currently due to covid only 5 tables of 4). Some of the other guests had some dishes that came on a sizzling hot plate, which filled the small restaurant room with smoke, which was a bit annoying.

The waiter seemed to restrict himself to the bare minimum of communication and was a bit bruut in serving (nearly throwing the plates on the table). It also wouldn't hurt to smile once in a while😄

Restaurant is not accessible: large step to get in.
Also offers take-away.

Just as it says in the description

We're vegans and were well served, excellent service, several choices, only it's expensive indeed, but normal for Brugge.

Pros: vegan friendly, not overcrowded, good service

Cons: expensive

Great Indian food at a vegan friendly place

Bruges is not exactly vegan friendly and when I was there De Bron and Lotus were both closed for the weekend. So I resorted to a place I had copied down into my guidebook from a review I had read on a blog. It turned out to be an excellent alternative. There are a lot of vegetarian items on the menu and the waiter was very helpful and accommodating about vegan options. While he did not seem to understand the word "vegan" he was obviously familiar with the general concept. He told us that their curries are generally not made with cream but make sure you also let them know you want your food without butter (and yogurt).
I took the Chana Massala with Roti and plain rice and tried the Baingann Bharta. Everything was very delicious and the portions are really big and filling. Keep in mind though that this place is rather expensive (expect to pay around EUR 20,- per person for a main dish with bread and rice plus 1 soft drink or beer) but we found that everything in Bruges is, so at least you can fill your tummies with excellent vegan food there (instead of paying EUR 8,50 for a falafel sandwich elsewhere - no kidding!)

Pros: many vegetarian items on menu, vegan options, excellent food

Cons: expensive (but moderate for Bruges)
