Madras Vegetables and Poori

Very friendly staff. Clean and nicely-decorated. I ordered the Madras Vegetables, as recommended by the waiter as the best vegan option, even though they forgot to star it. I ordered 5/5 spicy, despite his concerns. It was definitely spicy, but tolerable for somebody that can handle spicy. The sauce was very good, but my biggest gripe was the vegetables. Other than the potato, I believe they use frozen vegetables. Texture and flavor were unmistakable and the crinkle-cut carrots and the Lima beans. Rice could use some more flavor. The Poori was good, but I think I’d opt for roti for the extra flavor and less oily. Overall, fair for the price and very filling.

Pros: Good sauce, Good price and portion, Good poori

Cons: Uses frozen vegetables

Amazing vegan options

There’s an entire section of vegetarian entrees! There are stars next to the dishes that can be made vegan. I would guess there are 6-7 vegan entrees, 1 vegan option for bread, and 2 vegan options for appetizers. The food is taste amazing and has a lot of flavor. The level of spice is always equivalent to what you ask for. Definitely one of the best places to eat at for vegans in Amarillo. #Veganuary

Great food! An amazing find :)

I was in Amarillo TX thinking that vegetarian options would be slim to none, but I found this place and the food was amazing. I ordered the Garlic Naan, the Vegetable Samosas, and the Vegetable Tikka Masala. All three orders were great and tasted fresh. I ordered by phone and the wait time was less than 20 minutes. There were other vegetarian/vegan options on the menu with several dishes that could be made vegan by request. I would definitely go again if I ever find myself in Amarillo.

Pros: Many options, Amazing food, Good customer service

Vegan happy

A very nice restaurant, authentic Indian food. Although they are not fully vegan, they had many vegan choices on their menu and were very happy to make accommodations. The staff was very friendly and welcoming.

Pros: A lot a vegan options.

Great vegan meal from Tx!!

My parents, and friends are vegan and this is one of the only places in town we can go to get a good, filling vegan meal! Without ording JUST sides. They recently enlarged their menu and it clearly states what can be made vegan and the staff is very knowledgeable about the menu. Just be sure to tell them you want the vegan option!

Pros: Super good vegan appetizers!, many vegan meals to choose from!, super helpful staff!

Big Portions!

I had the Chana masala (the old standby). They use lots of fresh ginger and have the best roti I’ve ever had. Just ask for the roti unbuttered.

Tasty vegan dishes + helpful owner in Big Beef Country!

We were new to the vegan life-choice in July, 2016, when we took a round-trip road-trip from Texas to South Dakota. Our last day on the road, we arrived in Amarillo around lunchtime, thinking, "Taco Bell bean burritos, it is!" However, HappyCow presented a compelling review about Indian Oven, and so we gave it a try.
Wow.
Since, like I said, we were new to veganism, we were a little out-of-our-depth with the menu. Our host was helpful and patient, offering suggestions and substitutions. We ended up with an order of veggie pankora that we have been trying desperately to re-experience back in DFW: they were the perfect spicy/perfect crispy combo. I would return for the pankora alone. The veggie samosas were tasty and filling. For our main dish, we had Channa Masala--another perfectly spiced hit. Our host subbed roti bread for naan at his suggestion (since we weren't aware yet that naan frequently contained dairy products). 2 appetizers, 1 entree, bread--and we had left-overs for the road. As we paid our tab, the host said that we were his third vegan family to come through that day--it felt nice to feel like he cared enough about his customers to take note of their preferences.
In summation: the host of Indian Oven is your friend. Ask for suggestions, and he will help you build yourself a wonderfully tasty and inexpensive vegan meal. Seriously: the pankora is the stuff dreams are made of.

Pros: Pankora, Helpful, aware host, Value!

Cons: Sadly, vegans don't really benefit from the buffet

Delicious veggie food and a lot of choises

Arrived here in Amarillo with a tour group who wanted to visit the Big Texan. As a vegetarian not so good idea, so luckily we food this place. Since we arrived in this city late in the evening we called if they were still open, but that was no problem at all. Walking to the door we were greeted by the best Indian flavoured smells imaginable and once inside by a very nice lady.
The menu looked so good I had trouble choosing what to eat. But if you have the same problem I could recommend the veggie korna. Delicious! I think that vegan is an option as well, if you ask for it. The atmosphere in the restaurant could be better, but the food is so great, I would totally come back here another night if I have the chance.
