So good ! - Edit
Found a new spot to enjoy! We went here for the first time and it was nice to be provided a separate vegan menu. The Mongolian tofu was delicious! We also tired the sesame pan cake and Szechuan tofu, which were both great as well.

When it’s someone’s birthday in my home we always request Imperial Palace. It’s one of those special places we’re we know we’re going to get great service and great food. Family favorites is teriyaki tofu, Szechuan Vegetable Delight, and Mongolian Tofu.

Delicious, Great portions - Edit
We ordered takeout: Szechuan Tofu for him, Tofu Veg & Pan fried noodle for me, and Edamame Dumplings for us. Everything was delicious and the portions were generous. I would give 5 stars if the site allowed me to. Thankfully, they did NOT include single-use plasticware in the bag by default, which I very much appreciated!

*Update* - have actually tried everything off the vegan menu by now and my favorites are:
- Tofu veg with pan-fried noodles - tons of vegetables, nourishing
- Tofu Lettuce Wraps - beautifully presented if dining in, and delicious

So many vegan options - Edit
Came here with my omni family members. I requested the vegan menu and was impressed that there were so many vegan options! Many, many different ways to have tofu and a few WFPB options as well. I have to eat low fat, so I always request no cooking oil. The server recommended the tofu and veggies. It was basic, but the veggies were cooked perfectly. I do bodybuilding. So this was the perfect bro meal. Definitely recommend them for a variety of vegan diet needs. I’ll be able to come here with my fam, which is what’s most important to me!

Great place - Edit
Every time we go to the Beach, we eat here. It’s got a super old school Chinese restaurant vibe and friendly staff. Ask for the vegan menu.

Wonderful Vegan Chinese food - Edit
We came here because they have a vegan menu. There were so many choices but I ordered Tofu and mixed vegetables dry cook. It was wonderful. The fried tofu was hands down the best that I've had. I could have eaten a whole plate of it. The vegetables were perfectly cooked and there was a variety of them. The rice was delicious as well. I highly recommend this place and recommend it. My husband ordered the tofu vegetable with noodles. That was also very good. The noodles were delicious and it had a different variety of great vegetables. Kudos for having a vegan menu.

Adequate - Edit
This upscale Chinese restaurant was our family’s go-to destination for Chinese food before we went vegan. Although it is not the closest Chinese restaurant to our house, it is unquestionably the nicest one in town and had excellent food. After we first went vegan, we had a frighteningly horrible experience here. On our first visit, we ordered steamed vegetables without sauce in an effort to be sure our food would be vegan. Late in the meal, after a conversation with the owner, she seemed very receptive and asked us to return ordering dry sautéed vegetables with garlic sauce. On the return visit, when we complimented the owner on the good taste at the end of our meal, she explained that the secret was dipping chicken legs into the sauce – horror! She thought that because the meat was not in the dish, she had met our needs. We were revolted because we’d already eaten the food. After this experience, we did not return for a long long time.
Read moreNow that Imperial Palace advertises a vegan menu, we decided a re-visit was in order, as the restaurant really is quite nice and a favorite among our omnivore family members & friends. It is now possible to order a nice selection of vegan dishes, although most simple feature cubed tofu in lieu of the meat. We eat tofu but we’re disappointed at the lack of creativity for a fine restaurant. At this point, we will visit for the pleasure of enjoying friends who want to go, but not for ourselves, as the vegan offerings are rather disappointing.

Good food, okay service - Edit
I ordered carryout Mongolian Tofu based on previous reviewers' comments, and the food was tasty. Sometimes, Mongolian can be a little sweet but this was well balanced, especially with the provided steamed rice and soy sauce. I knocked off a star because I had to wait 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge me in the restaurant. The staff member I interacted with both on the phone and in person (eventually) had a good understanding of veganism and suggested I take a photo of the vegan menu for easy future ordering.

Vegan menu - Edit
Cool that they have many vegan options. I just wish they had their brown sauce made without chicken broth bc I would love a simple broccoli with brown sauce on a bed of rice. I got the Mongolian tofu which was very good, the rice was perfect. The dumplings were good but I prefer a different sauce with them. Definitely satisfied my Chinese food craving

Best sit-down Chinese eatery in Tidewater area - Edit
Most of the Chinese places in Hampton Roads are take-out joints that aren't suitable for dining in, but Imperial Palace is a nice place where you can take a date, family, have an anniversary dinner, etc. The ambiance is pleasant, with live piano on weekends. I haven't tried the curtained booths yet, but they look cozy! This place came out with a separate vegan menu about a year ago, with some very tasty dishes on it. My favorite (and the favorite of every other vegan I've eaten there with) is the 'Dry Cook Tofu and Vegetables.' It has a wonderful smoky flavor, and the vegetables are diverse and really fresh. The scallion pancakes are yummy, and the mango sorbet dessert is delicious and huge--definitely enough for two people. Ask for the vegan menu when you are being seated.
