VEGAN MAC AND CHEESE - Edit
This was genuinely some incredible soul food. The vegan mac and cheese was easily the best I’ve ever had and it’s not even close. This is a MUST stop place!!!!

Wonderful - Edit
Stopped by on a road trip. We got the specials of the day, meatless loaf and mushroom lasagna. Both were great! The Mac n cheese was the best I’ve had as a vegan.

A MUST in Savannah. - Edit
Very unassuming, very delicious. This is proper southern comfort food-all vegan. The staff was so friendly and the food was out of this world.

Best Vegan Meal in almost two years - Edit
Vegan almost two years. Visited Savannah in September. The food was excellent. I had the fried mushrooms, collards, potatoes and green beans, rice and gravy and corn bread. Everything was seasoned so well. The portions were generous. Absolutely the best I’ve had since being vegan

Underwhelming Experience at Hungry Vegan - Edit
After hearing good things about Hungry Vegan, I was eager to give it a try, even though it required quite a trek to get there. Sadly, the food didn't justify the effort. We only ordered one dish to share, and I’m glad we didn’t order more because it fell short of our expectations. I've had far better Southern Vegan food elsewhere, and I won’t be making a return visit.

Home style southern cooking - Edit
I came in before they closed around 5 PM. I had the Salisbury steak with collard greens potatoes corn bread, and rice. It reminded me of a home-cooked meal. The Salisbury steak was very flavorful. The collard greens were the perfect texture and flavorful. Also, I wasn’t a huge fan of the potatoes, but I like how they weren’t cooked in oil. Overall, definitely try this restaurant if you’re in Savannah.

Authentic southern food - Edit
Now I’m neither Southern nor American, but this feels like proper southern food to me!! The mac and cheese was maybe the best vegan mac and cheese I’ve ever had, and the fried cauliflower was SO good!
Read moreWe were two people, but we ordered 3 side dishes (2 cornbread slices, 1 side of mac and cheese and 1 side of fried cauliflower) and that was more than enough food for us for a lunch! The portions were really big, so we even brought home leftovers.
Everyone driving through Savannah should definitely head in here!
Pros: Great southern food, Friendly staff

Perfect Cauliflower - Edit
I really don't care for southern food much so I wasn't expecting to love this but I got a fried cauliflower burger and it was fantastic. It was fried perfectly. They only have yellow bbq though. The Mac and cheese was slightly off but not the worst vegan Mac I've had. I would guess the lemonade is powder. I would definitely return! And the staff was really sweet.

My non-vegan bestie loved it. - Edit
We loved everything! As a matter of fact we went On a Saturday when the menu is a little smaller so I got an extra meal since we are visiting and that meant I was able to get a little of everything. My non vegan friend loved everything especially the Salisbury Steak.

Great food, friendly staff - Edit
We had the Salisbury steak, it was hard to choose from such good side dishes (wife ordered extra side dish). Iced tea was really good.

Potentially really good - Edit
I think the concept and offerings of the menu are really good. The fried cauliflower would've been exceptional, if it wasn't SOOO salty. I got the Big Vegan Soul Food Plate with Fried Cauliflower, which comes with choice of 3 "vegetables." I chose the okra, black-eyed peas, and Lima beans (no collard greens?? 😔). The 2 bean sides were too salty to finish, and I'm a girl who never wastes food. 😔🥺 The okra was really good, the Mac and cheese was very creamy and good. We also got the fried salad (salad with fried cauliflower) and the cauliflower burger, a side of black-eyed peas and 2 lemonades. (As I already stated, the fried cauliflower was super salty, and since it was in everything, that was pretty disappointing.) We were charged $79... and I'm not sure how it could've totaled to that amount. (I am certain they overcharged us, but we didn't realize it until later.) They are the only vegan restaurant in Savannah and seem like nice people. I hope they can streamline their ordering system (so they don't overcharge) and go lighter on the salt so that people will want to go back. I probably would not.

Favorite vegan restaurant in Savannah - Edit
This fully vegan restaurant has so many delicious southern soul food dishes. The fried mushrooms were an absolute favorite. All of the sides are delicious too - mac and cheese, black eyed peas, greens, potatoes, okra. While the outside doesn’t look like much, don’t let that keep you away. The inside is cozy and the service comes with a smile.

We got a vegetable plate and a Salisbury steak plate. It was a LOT of food and all tasted amazing. You could tell it was homemade. The mac and cheese was some of the best we’ve had. Service was quick and nice. If we lived near we’d be regulars.

Delish vegan comfort food! - Edit
Was very excited to stop by here on our way out of Savannah, Hungry Vegan is currently the only fully plant based place in town. The reviews here are great and Hungry Vegan lives up to all of them!
Read moreThe cafe is super cute, with animal art everywhere, it's independently family owned, smells great as soon as you walk through the door and we received such a warm greeting from the two women working there, we knew we had come to the right place for lunch.
We got the special of the day which was Salisbury steak over rice, I couldn't choose between the lima beans or the collard greens as the vegetable so I got both with a piece of corn bread, side of mac n cheese and a sweet tea-- we were even given a small sample of the fried mushrooms -- everything was so yummy and very satisfying in that way only southern food can be.
I don't get people who have issues with the location, it's a local business in a real neighborhood and not in the tourist areas, I have zero problems with that! We'll come back for sure next time in Savannah.
Pros: Delicious vegan comfort food, Friendly service , Cute local location

Good food, pricey - Edit
I had the special which was oyster mushroom stew over rice, Mac n cheese, potatoes and corn bread. The food was good and had that home-cooked soul food taste. It was just expensive at $20 for the amount, I was still hungry. Which you wouldn’t expect given the name. 🤷🏻♂️

So worth the trip if you’re in the area - Edit
We made the trip over during a stay at Tybee Island and we were so glad we did. Easily the best food we had all week. We thought we ordered too much food but couldn’t stop eating because it was so good. I don’t think you could go wrong with any of the food but the okra, which had some other vegetables mixed in, was absolutely phenomenal. We had stewed mushrooms, rice, fried oyster mushrooms, collards, okra, mac n cheese, potatoes, and cornbread. Favorites were the okra, stewed mushrooms and rice, and collards. Would like to try their fried cauliflower because the breading on the oyster mushrooms was very well done. It really is great southern food cooked by people who know what they’re doing.
