This the only place I've tried on a layover in Shanghai, so I can't compare but it didn't disappoint. The staff is very nice: i don't have wechat but they helped me order. Food is VERY tasty! The combination of spicies is perfect.

We dined her with a friend for our first night in Shanghai. 孜然羊肉串、麻辣干锅、什锦炒面、时蔬豆干、红烧五花肉(乱编的,但菜上面有香菜🤮)。

Fabulous food welcoming staff - Edit
We found this place from all the reviews here. We massively over ordered but wanted to try as many dishes as possible! We took lots home for the next few days. They do really well at mock meats/fish as well as straight vege/vegan dishes. I’m currently living in Shanghai so will see this as being a regular spot 😊

Easy to find if you follow previous reviews (check the pictures).

We paid 180 for enough food drinks for two persons which is a good deal in Shanghai.

Our favourite vegan restaurant in Shanghai - Edit
We loved this restaurant during our time living in Shanghai, visiting at least 10-15 times and even ordering takeaway from here once or twice. Very good value, delicious food and lovely staff. The restaurant is located on floor 2 inside a bar and restaurant complex. There are several restaurants on floor 2 - look for the one with big glass windows. Menu is accessed by scanning the QR code on the tables using WeChat of Alipay.
Read moreOur favourite dishes included the spring rolls, fried noodles, curried veg, hand-torn cabbage, wontons and the house rice. Most dishes use an excellent vegan meat/fish substitute.

Cheap and tasty - Edit
I went here twice, fairly easy to find but I did have to wake up the whole staff like another reviewer 🤣 staff are nice but ordering is now done on alipay and I couldn't work out how to get the menu in English and I can't pay via alipay so it was a bit of a faff ordering. I went twice, the first time I was the only one in the restaurant and ordered about 100 rmb of food which turned out to be way too much. They put my leftovers in boxes for me and I had enough for dinner and breakfast the next day. Went back for lunch so had this food 4 meals in a row! The second day I went earlier (11.30am) and the restaurant was a lot more full and vibrant.

Took me a little bit to find it and once I arrived most of the staff were sleeping. I had to wake up the woman working, but once awake she was sooo helpful. My mandarin isn't perfect, but she was so patient with me and we managed to something for what I was craving. And boy was it delicious!

I would live here if I could - Edit
This was some of the most delicious food I have ever eaten. 6 months later and my kids are still talking about how good it was. We had a huge variety of dishes in the two times we went here. The pesto noodles were a welcome change from heavier Asian options and my daughter truly enjoyed her vegan pork chop. We are a little of everything but the walnut buns were decidedly the best food we ever tasted. My life goal is to find a recipe to make these at home. Don’t miss out on this place. It’s truly wonderful.

Delish Shanghai flavours - Edit
The ribs omg yes. So sweet and yummy. iPad menu has An English version and staff are lovely. Giant HappyCow logo in the window and “vegetarian” in English on their big sign. Wish I had longer in Shanghai so I could come back and try more dishes!

Best in Shanghai - Edit
I came here three days in a row. Food is great, everything I had was too sweet though, the reason might be Shanghai itself. They have lots of substitute for any kind of meat. Staff is friendly, they don't speak English but they have an English menu on tablet PC. Must be aware, menu is a bit deceptive, portions look so small that makes you feel like you have to order multiple options. Portions are fullfilling.

Good food but could improve service and atmosphere - Edit
I'll start very briefly with the negatives! I wasn't a fan of the decor (or lack of), nor did I enjoy ordering from an iPad (since when did speaking to a human become so challenging), & the menu was good but slightly mish mash...noodles next to pesto pasta for example. The expats outnumbered locals by far, you can read what you want into that. As for the food: yum! The fried lotus root was so good, sweet and sour 'pork' was delightful and the 'ribs' were incredible. You'd pay an arm and a leg for vegan food that good in the UK so I'm not complaining! However, I do have one comment. The food seemed to be designed for a Western pallet...by that I mean it reminded me of a Chinese takeaway you would get on a Saturday night while watching TV. Very sweet and not too spicy. Of course it's 10x better than that and cruelty free which is fab!!! But if you want something more authentic Chinese then go to Godly (not far from People's Square). If you have time then go to both and decide for yourself! If you can only go to one then my preference would be Godly.
Read morePros: Cheep, Food great (although flavours quite westernised), Easy to find
Cons: Ordering from iPad not ideal, Was full of expats, Decor and atmosphere wasn't great

OMG so worth it - Edit
We straight feasted at this place...to the point where locals kinda looked at us like we were crazy. Wonton soup was on point, fried rice and fried noodles to dies for, and mock meats/delicious tofu. Oh and the walnut bun things were crazy tasty for desert. Prices were way to cheap for the quality of food and I enjoyed every minute within this restraunt. Hella recommended, would come back again for breakfast and dinner if we were staying longer.

Ottimo ristorante vegetariano a Shanghai - Edit

Easy to find, warm friendly service, best vegan food in Shanghai hands-down - Edit
It’s super easy to find, and there’s a clear Happy Cow sign on the window. I had a fried mushroom dish which was super yummy. Unfortunately it came out way sooner than the other two dishes I ordered, making 1. me almost finished with them and 2. them cold by the time the other two dishes came out. The food is very, very fresh. The next dish that arrived were the walnut buns (dim sum section of menu), which were slightly sweet and pleasant. The next dish that came out were steamed dumplings/jiaozi, that arrived piping hot. They were good, but really filling, so you should be fairly hungry when eating this dish if you’re by yourself. The problem with this dish was with the sauce that came with it, which I can’t even call sauce; it was just melted and very greasy sesame seed butter without any flavor at all. The service was really warm and friendly here, so I’d definitely come back to try more dishes, and bring someone with me next time. They have an iPad menu that has some English, and ordering is pretty easy.

I’ve already been here two more times since my first trip, and I will keep coming back because it’s proven to be the best vegan food I’ve had in Shanghai, on top of being very reasonably priced. Dishes I highly recommend: chicken in chili sauce, mushroom buns, “fish” and vermicelli soup pot with pickled cabbage, wonton soup
Pros: Warm and friendly service , Easy to find, Absolutely amazing food
Cons: Time of arrival of different dishes , Bland greasy sesame butter served with dumplings

Ate here several as it was a 5 minute walk from my hostel, big menu on an iPad with English translation. The grilled unagi, sweet and sour pork and the pork ribs are delicious. There’s lots of mock meats but also some vegetable dishes. Staff are friendly and food is hot and comes out quickly

Verschiedene Gerichte probiert. Alle sehr lecker. Kam deshalb öfters. Absolute Empfehlung.
