Worth the trek

We got a bit lost trying to find it, but it was worth the trouble. Very friendly staff and some excellent dishes. We really enjoyed it. Recommended.

Delicious

Great food, nice staff, and easy to find (we caught didi to the address listed, then caught the lift to level 2 and it's right there). Their freshly squeezed orange juice was amazing.

Amazing Food - Amazing Staff!

We were in Shanghai for 4 days and we ate here twice…. We also got takeaway with us so we could have it in Suzhou (the next stop on our trip). 😂

They are a Buddhist restaurant, so all of the food is vegan, cruelty-free, etc. The staff was amazing and easily accommodated for one of our group with a severe nut and sesame allergy.

Highly recommend the orange chicken, chow mein, “egg” and tomato, the lamb skewers, and the sausage.

Pros: Fully Buddhist, Amazing staff, Delicious food!

Excellent options. All vegan

I love Chinese food here is what I tried
The food is cheap so I paid 21€ for 6 dishes and I have ordered way too much but some reviews said it’s small portions but they were big
So had half for takeout
- bao buns with cucumber and soy
- mushroom buns
- walnut buns
- sweet savoury pork
- tofu
See pictures
Very friendly people
Pay and order via WeChat so definitely download this - generally for Shanghai! No need for cash
Unfortunately had stomach pain afterwards
But maybe because I haven’t eaten for so many hours because of a long flight and fasting so not sure why
Easy to find see outside pic

Tasty and affordable!

English translations on the menu! But you’ll probably just order via QR code. On 2nd floor which is slightly confusing to get to but not too difficult! Just take the hotel elevator up. Delicious and great variety of options, would come back😄

Varied and very filling

Many dishes to choose from and notes which ones are spicy and not. I found some of the dishes quite salty in particular the crab paste tofu. The textures were great and there were lots of things that had lots of veg and greenery. I liked that they had such a large selection of Chinese dishes, from the staples to some less known dishes to dim sum and a range of teas (small soft drink selection but includes corn juice… interesting)!
The prices are very reasonable, (price is similar to VEGEGOOD also in Shanghai but here you get larger portions) basic soup noodles with veg and tofu for 28RMB meaning you’re tempted to buy a lot of dishes! They charge for Tupperware or you can bring your own. They are friendly and helpful, you order via the QR leading to Meituan on WeChat.
It’s mostly empty on a weekday lunchtime and very fast service.
There are toilets round the corner on the same floor. I found the place a bit confusing to get to as you enter this office like building and go up the lift to get there.
If you write a review on dianping they give you a free dim sum dish of your choice.

Amazing vegan restaurant

Buddhist inspired restaurant. They have an amazing selection of different traditional Chinese dishes. I can see why this has been ranked as no.1

Lovely place -

Had the mapu tofu which was alright and the wontons with sesame sauce, which were delicious! Price was on the higher side but not extravagant

The description of how to get there makes no sense whatsoever, just follow the map!

Pros: Great menu, Wontons and buns, Nice people

Cons: Mapu tofu was alright

Don’t miss out on this

Food is delicious and delicate. Portions were on the smaller side, but still filling. I got the orange chicken and it was great, though I’m sure that regardless of what you get, you’ll be pleased and satisfied. It is definitely a restaurant that leaves you wanting for more!

Pros: Delicious food

Best food of the trip

Really highly recommended for vegans to try a comprehensive menu of Chinese flavours and food. You must go here!

The Szechuan chicken was so good and not oily and not too spicy at all.

You order from your phone.

Didn’t like the hot and sour soup, might be an acquired taste.

Great authentic local food!!

If you want an unpretentious place serving Chinese food to locals, this is the place! One of the tastiest places in Shanghai for vegan food. The dumplings with peanut sauce are amazing! They politely discouraged me from following my instinct to over-order. The food was the right portion and less than 100 RMB.

Update: have returned several times to this place over the last year. Each time I’ve noticed changes to the decor and branding. The delicious food is still the same, with a few welcome menu additions! I’d no longer say this place feels like it’s “just for locals”. They tend to have more people seated now, and maybe with the good publicity on HappyCow they’re leaning into catering to travelers. But it’s still amazing vegan food served in a traditional setting.

Myfavourite place in Shanghai

I spent 4 days in Shanghai and ate here three times with my boyfriend!! The food is super good and the service is great (although it can get busy at times) we tried so many dishes and highly recommend the walnut bao (so so good as a desert) wontons, orange chicken or ribs, the fried rice and the salt n pepper tofu (near the front of the menu called a different name)!
It was amazing being able to pick anything because it's all vegan! The restaurant it's upstairs you can see the window from the street with the happy cow logo! Go up in the lift and there's a sign saying Lotus Vegan😄

Payment - our wechat didn't work but they accepted cash instead (but have some change atleast). AliPay might work!

Delicious food, went as often as possible

If you're a foreigner you need cash to pay, the app doesn't take foreign cards. Make sure to try the fish and pickle hotpot. All food was amazing, staff was friendly and helpful.

Pros: Delicious food, Many options

Nice Little Near the Bund

Decent sized menu with a good range of food and friendly staff. No use of onion or garlic for anyone with a Satvik diet. You have to go into the building and take the lift up to the 2nd floor. We paid with cash as our Alipay didn't work.

Nice place to eat in Shanghai!

We were there a bit late and the kitchen closed soon, however we, were friendly served. At this time we were the only customers in the restaurant.

Food was very good! We can really recommend the green beans!

All vegan, difficult to find

Detailed menu with pictures. Ordering directly through the Alipay app, the food was brought very quickly. Not super delicious, but we were very happy to find something vegan.

The place was difficult to find. The restaurant is located in a larger building where you don't see any shops on the ground floor, only a security guard. Take the elevator to the second floor, and that's where the restaurant is.

The second time here was definitely a better food choice by us, but ordered too much. The cucumber juice this time was much thinner and not as tasty.

Amazing food

We tried to follow the directions but found it difficult to get there. It’s best to take exit 5 from the subway station, cross the road, take the first left and it’s in that building. Second floor. There is a clear sign from the outside that says Happy Cow too.

The food was amazing and staff very friendly. You can only use WeChat or AliPay, and it was easy to communicate with the staff via translate apps. We ordered the Dim Sum, a noodle broth and assorted noodles. It was plenty of food for 2 people.
