2.5 stars: Quite bland

The service is friendly and quick, but sadly the food is quite bland.
The stirfried rice noodles with vegetable and tofu barely had any sauce, and thus pretty bland.
The rice paper rolls were good.
Only half the menu was both in English and Vietnamese.

Maybe just happened to go on an off day?

I agree with the others that this place makes some very lovely food but they were running a few banquets for a few of the other customers which meant that they would only allow my table of 2 to order from the entree and soups menu.

As for menus it was difficult to get one, and difficult to order. They bring foods out to your table but it's not like we had much time to really look at the one menu page being passed down the queue at the front before we went to order. We did have to wait quite a while for the food to be brought out, which was frustrating as it was lunch time but it genuinely didn't look like they were beyond 20% capacity at any point.

They didn't have any sugar-free canned drinks today which was unfortunate (type 1 diabetic) so we ordered some of the sugar cane drinks and viet iced coffee. They were both nice and tasted great.

As for the food, it was fine, but as others here have said, the food was kind of plain and for the price a bit of a let-down. We ordered the spicy noodle soup (more sweet than spicy) and spring rolls. We would've loved to have tried more from the menu but I'm unsure if it was the day or the time or what but I feel that given the praise this restaurant has been given, I would like to return again to ensure a proper experience.

Pros: Take away options available for those in a rush

Cons: Limited menu, though unsure if due to day/time etc, Costly

Vietnamese temple food

Came across this on Google, this needs updating as it is now open. The food is quite plain but has large portions. The food is quite simple. Takeaway boxes are available for sale as well.

Pros: Large portions, Good service

Cons: Food is rather plain

Disappointing lately

This used to be my favourite vegan eatery but each time i go i feel more & more disappointed. Last visit hardly any of the menu items were available. And this seems to be occurring more & more.
We did get Rice paper rolls which were good but the soups we ordered - Beef Pho & Spicy noodle soup were bland. Hoping I've just struck a few bad occasions but it leaves me feeling i won't be rushing back.

Nice for something different

This restaurant is co-located within the temple. The pho was nice, great flavor broth, but would’ve been happy to skip the mock meat and have some broccoli instead. The spring rolls were dry but served with fresh lettuce and mint which was a nice touch.

Pros: Free tetley tea, Flavoursome broth (pho)

Cons: Mock meat in the pho , No green/jasmine tea

Great food

This is my new regular place. The first thing I need to state, it is a temple and the restaurant is run by volunteers. So patience is a must. The menu is also dependent on who's there at the time. But the top three things on the menu is a staple.
So basically their Bun Bo Hue and their tomato crab noodle.
Their noodles soups and rice (including Broken rice) is top notch.
Don't get freaked out over the cost of their friend noodles ($20), it feed two. I ate half and my kids ate the other half.
The problem is getting there. Driving or an Uber is your best bet. There's a bus but.
Also, it is an operational Buddhist temple (plus school) for the local community. So for you tourists, if you see people with white headbands, a bit of respect please (its a wake).

Pros: Food, Price

Cons: Getting there

Not bad.

Decent food and good Vietnamese coffee. Unfortunately the coffee was served in disposable cups even though we were eating in.

Great Vietnamese vegan

In the Vietnamese tradition of temples with vegan restaurants inside or nearby, this one is cheap, cheerful and offers great portions for sharing. Friendly atmosphere with totally vegan menu. Includes some mock meat dishes, and quite a few vegan versions of favourites like Pho and Bun Cha. The papaya salad was delicious, fresh and plentiful. I had the sour tomato noodles which was tangy and full of flavour. The Bun Hue was stand out, full of flavour and delicious ingredients. The pho was a little subtle/ blander. Service was friendly, helpful and fast and the large tables and huge space are excellent for families. Just like being in Vietnam 🍃☺️

Pros: All vegan, Generous sharing portions, Excellent value

Great for eat in or take away

I often just pop in and buy some take away to get me through the tail end of the week. I love the variety and the servers are always helpful.

Pros: Great vegan options , Great service, welcoming staff

Cons: Plastic containers for take away

Updated Review

Delicious tasty food, beautiful people working there happy to answer any questions you have. They do have eftpos available so it’s not cash only anymore also we asked about the Vietnamese Coffee and it’s not made on cows milk he got the soy milk out and showed us. The restaurant is over in the far right corner. We are now regulars to this hidden gem 👍🏼

Pros: Eftpos , Great tasting Vegan food, Friendly staff

Generous portions

Well cooked meals although perhaps a touch underseasoned. Serving sizes are rather large and best shared.

decent value, nice place, nice staff and atmosphere

Welcoming atmosphere, food was tasty and had big portions. Everything OK. Will definitely be coming back. Next to a Buddhist temple, everyone was so friendly. I've had bad experiences at other Vietnamese restaurants in Springvale so it must be the inclusive vegan vibes that made me enjoy this so much as a couple of whiteys.
