Find myself asking which theme can be better and how every year the Vegan food gets better. - Edit
Bruce and Jane and the team bringing good all you can eat largely (and more and more) Vegan food over the decades. I'd write more and will continue to try and think on a favourite theme (It's either Mexican, Irish/Engllish/Christmas (That Guinness pie is delicious as is the seitan) or Japanese (All you can eat tempura veg is a hell yeah).

The pinnacle of vegan/vegetarian dining - Edit
Pretty much the best vegan/vegetarian restaurant one can visit. I’ve had multiple celebratory meals here and feel so lucky to live locally- it’s so good that I’d be willing to travel a good distance for it. Usually all but maybe one or two things at the buffet are vegan (this is always clearly delineated by staff) and the selection of desserts is otherworldly. Such a unique experience, delicious food, great concept & it’s even bring your own booze! Don’t know how it could get much better. This is pretty much the pinnacle of vegan dining in my opinion. Go.

Fabulous Restaurant! - Edit
Hitchcock’s has been one of my favourite places to go for a meal with friends and colleagues, some of whom are vegetarian and some like me are vegan. We have always all enjoyed everything they’ve cooked and it’s super friendly and chilled. The first person to book chooses the nationality of the food that night and I’ve sampled lots of lovely new foods there. Some things are just vegetarian but they are clearly marked. The price is also really good, I highly recommend Hitchcock’s especially if there’s a group of you, but book well ahead.

Favourite restaurant! - Edit
Innovative concept where the food menus are based on different countries. Most of the food is vegan, staff ask about dietary requirements when you book and anything that isn't vegan is clearly labelled. Definitely worth a visit when in Hull.

Hitchcock's is brilliant for vegans - Edit
We celebrated Veganuary this year with a trip to Hull to eat at the highly unusual but always amazing Hitchcock's. The theme on this occasion was Middle Eastern. Apart from a couple of clearly explained vegetarian dishes, everything was vegan. It was all completely delicious! Loved it! #Veganuary

Love this place - Edit
Hitchcocks concept is so unique - each evening the menu is a different cuisine from around the world. It’s buffet style. I’ve been to a few different nights here and they are really accommodating to vegans and allergies. The chef came out and explained everything that is vegan. They also have an amazing selection of desserts!

Great experience - Edit
Tucked away treasure in Hull with a great atmosphere, lovely staff and wonderful food. All you can eat with a different theme picked by the first person who books. They make a vegan version of all savoury food and plenty of choice for vegan cakes. The pecan pie is delightful!

Huge vegan selection - Edit
Dinner at Hitchcock’s vegetarian restaurant is a buffet affair with a huge range of vegan dishes. All choices are clearly labelled as vegan or non-vegan making it easy to enjoy a wide range of dishes. For the all-in price you get starters then the main course buffet followed by (if you have any room!) desserts and coffee/ tea. All of this is provided by welcoming and friendly staff in a setting with a great ambiance. Hull is indeed a lucky town to have such a great establishment

Same old same old - Edit
Been to this place quite a few times and it seems that they produce the same old stuff no matter what the theme is. Also, it can feel a bit like a school canteen as everybody queues up all at once. Needs a bit of a spark to bring it up to date otherwise it’ll end up closing down. There are many, much better contenders out there now. This (once quirky) place needs to keep up with the times.

Three of those 'up to date contenders' have shut down in the past few weeks. After years in business it's possible that Hitchcocks understand their market, and that market forces might just be more powerful than your opinion.

Never Disappointed - Edit
Even though we have only once booked far enough in advance to choose the theme for the evening's food, we have never been disappointed with the huge selection on offer each time we have visited. Although this is a vegetarian establishment, very many of their dishes are vegan (always labelled) so there is more than enough choice to satisfy every palate. It is quirky, friendly, reasonably priced and a real "must-visit" eatery if in Hull.

My favourite resturant - Edit
I have been going to Hitchcok's for years and it is easily my favourite restaurant. There is a huge selection of vegan food, a great little bar that stocks everything and incredibly friendly service. With all the different menu options there is always something new to try and the desserts are out of this world! I would highly reccomend anyone to go!

Traditional British veggie vibes! - Edit
Tasty, healthy, too easy to overeat! Charming slightly 70s veggie vibe, which my friend and I rather liked - reminded me a bit of Food for Friends that used to be in Covent Garden. Much bigger than I expected and packed when we were there - you have to ring a doorbell and the staff come and let you in, which makes it pleasingly like being in a secret society. Very friendly atmosphere. Loads of vegan options. Some people might not like the buffet service style, but if you're up for that then this place is very good.

The best thing about living in Hull - Edit
An all you can eat place in which the first person to book gets to pick from any World theme; all Veggie, mostly Vegan and the chef will cook up some of the Veggie things Vegan and bring them to your table. Awesome food, lovely staff and I always feel like I've had a food overdose (and easily the best thing about living in Hull)

wonderful - Edit
I have been to Hitchcock's numerous times over the last 4 years, each occasion happened to be a different cuisine. It is quite exciting trying the flavours of different countries and clearly lots of research goes into creating a varied menu.
Read moreThe first person to book for that night gets to choose the cuisine which is a fun idea even though we have never been first.
By far our favourite has been Indian, I have never tasted such amazing bhajis and curries to die for. Also the Plantain curry on Caribbean night was wonderful. Or most recent visit was south african and my least favourite, my only really criticism was quorn being used in too many dishes making it unsuitable for vegans and not really adding anything to the dish. The salsa and guacamole starters were by far the tastiest salsa and guacamole I have ever tasted though! The deserts.... well they are wonderful... The homemade vegan carrot cake was spectacular.
The decor, which could do with a bit of updating but I wouldn't call the place dirty. There is a great atmosphere here, the staff and welcoming and attentive, I would definitely recommend it.
Pros: variety and flavours, service, deserts
Cons: decor, toilets

Nice food in laid back atmosphere - Edit
I have been many times and love the choice and different menus. However, the last time I went (Indian night) the potatoes in everything were far too hard and inedible. This spoilt the currys, bombay aloo etc. It would be nice if a few of their desserts were home made. I would give it another go though.

Delicious - Edit
The first time I visited the theme was Irish and American so didn't enjoy greatly. The second time was Mexican and Brazilian and the food was fantastic - agreed by my non-veggie companions. Plenty of choice and can go back for seconds. Definitely worth a visit when in the area.

Vegetastic! :D :D :D - Edit
A fabulous place! I only wish it were open for lunch too! Haha. The first guest to book chooses a theme for the evening- especially good have been Mexican, Italian and Christmas. It has a wonderful oldy worlde feel, with wooden beams and candles everywhere and thanks to its location in Hull's Oldtown. You arrive betweeen 8pm and 9pm, and themed starters will await you on your table...e.g. bruschetta and olives on Italian night. Drinks are very, very good value and readily available at the bar or bring your own for £1 corkage. After whetting your appetite, make room and go queue for the buffet! Never had a bad meal here, always an array of salads, sauces, and delicious, piping hot, fresh dishes to enjoy. Eat as much as you like...but by the time you have tried everything, you won't have much room! Try to save some for dessert, as there is a buffet of fruit, cakes, puddings and dairy and vegan ice creams. £16, I believe, for 3 courses + coffee or £12 for students, but not at weekend. You have to try this place! Boook ahead, especially at Christmas- it's popular!

The Super Hero of Buffets - Edit
A simply brilliant place with a tremendous atmosphere and reputation set in Hull old town. They have one seating each evening serving a particular type of food (Spanish, Eastern European, Mexican, Italian etc) depending on who has made the first booking and decided on the theme of the evening. Plenty of seating in a huge place, loads of food with many vegan options and cheap house wine. You can even take you own booze if desired. A great great place with a wonderful vibe.

I went to Hitchcock's last night for my birthday and had a fantastic meal. The theme was Italian and there was so much to choose from. All the dishes were tasty, but my favourite was the lasagne. Remember to leave enough room for dessert as the cakes and puddings are amazing as well!

Hitchcock's, Hull - Edit
I've been once. The theme for that evenings was Chinese. I've had tastier Chinese food but I believe this place has a good rep foodwise so maybe it was just bad timing by me. There were certainly lots of vegan options. I went in a party of about 25 all of whom raved about the desserts. I had the pecan pie with vegan chocolate ice cream and vegan custard; sensational.
