Vegan ramen with do-it-yourself spice - Edit
When you see a restaurant where the majority of patrons belong to the same ethnic group as the cuisine, it often indicates that the food is going to be good. I liked the vegan ramen, I had a few minor gripes with it, the highest was that there was plain cubed tofu in it. However, the broth and noodles were excellent. The vegan gyoza was spectacular and had some sort of wheat gluten filling. Finally, I liked their garlic and spice options, where you could tune your ramen to what your tastes are.

Cons: Minor missteps on the vegan ramen

Miso-Sesame Ramen - Edit
I was pleasantly surprised to see a 'craft' ramen shop highlight three varieties of ramen, one of them being vegan. In my continued search for the best plant-based ramen in town, my sights were set on HiroNori and they did not disappoint.
Read moreTheir Vegan Ramen ($16) was a miso-sesame based broth, topped with chili oil, corn, mixed greens, charred broccolini (my favorite part), firm tofu, and grounded soy meat. It was a hearty bowl with great flavors packed with the sesame broth and I appreciate the intentionality behind adding so much plant based protein.
Overall the ramen was good, but nothing I couldn't make myself at home. It did cost more for this option than the meat varieties, which is something I wish wasn't always the case. But to even offer a dedicated vegan option is much appreciated.
Pros: Big bowl of ramen

Delicious - Edit
Huge bowls of vegan ramen, very high quality. The only thing is, this place is always busy, so there may be a wait. And ask for hot sauce!

Good vegan ramen - Edit
Good for takeout. I know pre-covid this place required reservations for dine-in at all hours of the day and I assume that's still the case.

It was okay - Edit
We were super excited to try the vegan ramen after reading reviews. We tried to get this ramen when we were in LA and could not even order it because they weren’t taking orders because they were too backed up..which raised my expectations. But I realize that a lot of those orders were most likely the non-vegan ramens. But I still was kind of expecting such a popular place to have an exceptional vegan ramen.
Read moreI’m originally from Vancouver Canada and there are lots of vegan ramen options there-still one place always stood out as our favourite (it’s also located in San Jose). We feel like it’s hard to beat. I’ve also been to Tokyo and had many ramens there😍
As for the Hironori vegan ramen...we thought it was ok...It had a sesame miso broth, fried broccolini, soft tofu, corn, bean sprouts, crumbled soy meat bits, spring veg mix, and came with chilli oil on the side.
I did like the amount of toppings though because a lot of veg ramens I’ve had were super plain with toppings and mostly noodles & broth. The noodles were good and cooked nicely. They weren’t overcooked and still had bite and nice flavour. I was wondering what’s in the noodles that make them yellow though since they say it’s vegan. Ramen noodles typically have egg which makes them yellow.
The broth tasted as described, unfortunately it did not wow me at all. The toppings were okay as well...again did not wow me. Would be nice if the broth were more flavourful and there were more depth of flavour to the toppings - such as roasted corn nibs instead of just regular corn that seemed like it came out of a can or were just grabbed out of a frozen bag and tossed in. The deep fried broccolini was also very oily (I know..it’s deep fried) but maybe let it sit on a paper towel for a bit before plating it.
It wasn’t bad. But I didn’t feel like it was amazing or really special. I’d give the ramen a 2.5

Good Ramen - Edit
This was pretty good Ramen 🍜. We've been to Japan and it was reminiscent of Ts Tan Tan in Tokyo.
Read moreThey clearly use quality ingredients and have a good broth base. We really liked the noodles.
I think this type of ramen isn't our favorite, but still a really great option.
We were disappointed that reservations are required. We were trying to get a table on our lunch break rather last minute but were unable to.
We do appreciate that they have to go options which is what we went with. You cannot call to make a to go order instead you have to use an app. The staff do not pick up when you call. We had an issue with the app and weren't sure if the order had gone through properly so we called to check on it a couple of times. Unfortunately no one answered.
When we went to pick up our order there were plenty of staff standing around. The staff were not particularly friendly and seemed bothered by us asking to pick up our food, even though we already paid and they just had to hand us the bag. Hopefully this was a one off rather than the norm.
One bowl of ramen is definitely enough to feed two.
Definitely worth a try if you are a ramen fan. We do appreciate their vegan options.
We wish they had a to go soup spoon/ramen spoon like Jinya as opposed to a regular spoon.
Pros: Quality ramen 🍜 , Can feed two
Cons: Reservations only, Order to go is only available via an app

Best vegan ramen in the South Bay - Edit
Literally so good but you MUST make a reservation. They do not take walk ins and this small restaurant only seats about 10 people. They also have a small menu but the vegan ramen is superior to all the ramen spots in the area.
