Giant vegan section, clearly marked - Edit
I'm not sure why the main description sounds like you have to ask questions to find vegan food-- you don't! It's pretty clearly marked, and also fairly obvious what has dairy. Everything I've had there is good; especially like the jackfruit (kataar aaloo), veggie momos, and aaloo ko pakora.

Cons: Wish they had vegan Naan (they do have vegan roti)

So good! - Edit
I’ve loved the lunch buffet here for many years. There are a couple of things in the salad bar area that I must have. One is a type of coleslaw and the other a uniquely spiced potato salad, generally used as condiments. Both are bursting with fabulous flavors. I was in today (Thursday) and noticed a couple of meat dishes on the buffet. I asked the owner about the all vegan Thursday and Sunday buffets I had read about on Happy Cow. He said yes vegan on Thurs and Sunday. I pointed out that it was Thursday and then noted the goat dish on the buffet. So don’t go in expecting all vegan buffet days. I’m pretty sure they don’t exist. Nonetheless, this place is quite vegan friendly and sometimes “mostly” vegan. The food here makes me feel like I’ve traveled to somewhere wonderful.

I love going to Himalayan. They have several marked options and the service is great. They even have vegan Kheer for dessert!

Vegan buffet days - Edit
It’s hard to find a vegan place with buffets but this place apparently has buffets on Thursday and Sunday that are all vegan. The deserts and puddings are made with coconut milk as well which is cool.

Lunch Buffet is a Vegan's Dream Come True - Edit
The lunch buffet is AMAZING and full of vegan options. Everything vegan is labeled on the buffet, including sauces and breads/crackers. There is no vegan dessert ON the buffet but we were offered vegan dessert off of the regular menu for free with our buffet. The food was good spicy but not super spicy and - did I mention that the food was SO GOOD? Lunch buffet is offered 7 days a week and is $11.99 per person.

mMMMMMMmmm Momos! - Edit
Have been going to Himalayan since it was on E Franklin Ave to the expanded space on Lake Street. Love the momos and the fresh vegetables. Have had the lunch buffet several times, and there are both vegetarian and meat selections on the buffet. The food is always flavorful and addictive. It's a nice family place, with diner like setting. The only thing I think about is that the restrooms are downstairs (no elevator) and that would make it impossible for me to come with my father, who uses a walker.

Delicious - get the Momos! - Edit
The Himalayan's Momos are my favorite food right now. I could practically drink the tomato-cilantro sauce that comes with for dipping. SO good. I also enjoy the kurilo-aaloo (asparagus, potatoes, AMAZING spices). Separate vegan/veg section on menu, staff knows what vegan means.

Great Buffet - Edit
I've been there for dinner a few times, but the buffet is the main reason I keep coming back. Many of the items on the buffet are vegan. The staff understand what vegan means. The tea is also great.
Read moreFor dinner I like the chana masala and the saag. Both together is a great combination of beans and greens. I still like Gorkha Palace a bit more for dinner, but Himalayan wins on the buffet side.
