$5 coconuts - Edit
After seeing the coconut inflation rampant on the big island beaches, happy to say that this place had delicious local coconuts for a reasonable price. Also, if you’re staying a while, the produce selection looked excellent.

Never, never, ever miss this farmer’s market when we are on the Big Island. - Edit
My husband talked about this Farmer’s market before I ever made it to the Big Island. He brought me there in 2014 on our honeymoon. I was not disappointed. Availability of fruits, vegetables and very interesting produce is not to be missed. Whenever we stay in the area we load up and take it back to our cottage. Add delicious homemade dishes and baked goods and you have a feast for days!

Love this place! - Edit
I went to the market on Wednesday to take advantage of the hot food stands and was not disappointed! I was able to get a green papaya salad and some massaman curry for under $15. Both were fantastic.

Excellent market - Edit
My husband and I went on a Saturday, when the largest selection of vendors is there, and found several prepared vegan food choices in addition to a wide selection of local produce at fair prices. We ate Peruvian-style vegan tofu tamales. Other stalls had avocado summer rolls, noodles, vegan banana bread, cake and cookies, fresh juices, taro products and shave ice. Definitely worth a visit.

A must stop - Edit
We frequented the market on market days- Wednesday and Saturday- as well as days between. On Market days we found nut butters, Thai rolls. vegan tapioca pudding, and smoothies that were not available on non-market days. All that plus ample fresh produce, we ate like royalty for our week in Hilo. Even on non-market days farmers sell produce so it is worth shopping here before going to grocery stores, even the natural foods stores, on non-market days.

Go on the Wednesday - Edit
Apart from quality fresh fruit and veg, there is a guy here who sells homemade Jewish, vegan foods. I bought a couple of things from him and they were all good. Different flavours to what I'm used to since we don't have a Jewish population where I live.
Read moreI also noticed some vegan Asian foods so lots of choice!
On the downside, the food market is only on Wednesdays (and maybe Saturdays) although limited fresh produce is available every day.
Pros: Good fruit and veg selection, Vegan homemade goods, Vegan Asian food
Cons: Food market not every day

Fun! - Edit
Bought a few produce items I never ate before. A must stop on a visit to Hilo. Get a coconut cracked open, purchase tropical flowers, try different types of bananas or buy a locally carved box. If you are hard core on organics, you should ask.

Great local market - Edit
Fun market- great place to see and sample fresh local produce as well as lots and lots of vendors with crafts and souvenir items. Pretty crowded, but still a fun way to spend a couple hours.
