A beautiful place. - Edit
What an amazing place Hillside is. Me and my partner spent the afternoon here, it was so lovely looking round and seeing what an amazing job the staff do. They are fantastic advocates for veganism and animal rights, and showcase how awful the meat/dairy industry is. We ate at the cafe - they had sandwiches, pasties (which you can heat up in thier own microwave) and lots of snacks/cakes/crisps, all of which are vegan. Definitely recommended!

Amazing - Edit
The staff are amazing, the sandwiches are lovely as are their biscuits. Orange ice lollies are lovely on a hot day. Best of all, the money raised helps all of their rescued animals.

Great cafe 100% vegan - Edit
Nice little cafe with tons of snacks and vegan pasties, cakes etc. Reasonably priced and very clean. There is a lovely seating area outside where you can sit opposite the stables and see the rescued heavy horses. The sanctuary really is a great place to visit and meet all the rescued animals. It makes your choice to be vegan even more poignant.

Lovely wholesome day - Edit
Yes the food may be package and pre bought but the cause and the day out visiting these animals knowing you don’t have to worry about food options make this place worth the visit. Lovely to be here with like minded people and so many beautiful animals to see. Also dog friendly!

One of my favourite places to visit - Filled with so many rescued animals - Cows, horses, goats, sheep, rabbits, birds, alpacas, pigs etc
Read moreThe cafe used to sell meals, but they now offer sandwiches, pasties, humus & pitta chips, crisps, cakes, cold & hot drinks.
It is now free to enter too, so every penny you spend in their shop, cafe & brica brac barn help them continue 🌱
Enjoyed my lunch here & it was reasonably priced.
Pros: All Vegan , All money spent helps rescue more animals , Lovely friendly staff

Takeaway snack bar only! - Edit
In fairness I should have read that it was operating a limited snack bar, but even so, I didn’t expect to find pre-bought supermarket food for sale (e.g. Ginsters vegan pasty)! The choice was poor and it was all cold food. I’ll try again next year when I visit to see if it’s returned it’s pre-COVID hay day.

Tasty food! - Edit
My daughter and I have visited Hillside several times and we're always sorry to leave the animals and the cafe. The Hillside Cafe is the only place where my daughter can have something tasty every time due to gluten free options being offered to vegans there. We've eaten in innumerable places in Eastern England but only at Hillside do they take people's allergies seriously! They use different utensils for each gluten free product and even rinse the tongs after every customer. You can't do better than that!
Read moreAt Hillside one always finds sweet and savoury bites to eat. There are hot dishes such as soup and baked potatoes and my daughter likes the vegan ice cream and the gluten free chocolate cake a lot! I've had various kinds of sandwiches and desserts and tried Hillside's own tasty cake with lots of different kinds of fruit and no added sugar.
All their drinks are very reasonably priced and the service is quick.
From certain tables, customers can have a good view of the horses in their stables and if you wish, you can sit outside.
Having no car of our own, we make our way to Hillside in a taxi several times a year. It's worth the cost to see all the wonderful animals and eat in the first class cafe!
Pros: Lovely food!, Friendly staff, Gluten free options

Very Expensive and Uninspiring - Edit
My husband and I visited Hillside on 21 June, 2019, on the occasion of his birthday. Since we are both vegans, we looked forward to trying out their cafe. We were very disappointed that much of their food required microwaving. The few sandwiches on hand looked stale and colorless (like something found in a corner co-op store) and the desserts were sickly sweet and gooey from lack of refrigeration. We opted for two very soggy vegetable pasties and two slices of cake, which, with an organic soda, came to about £13.
Read moreToo much money for too little food. The cafe interior could use some fresh paint and a redesign, too. Hardly worth driving to just for food. Would give one star, but Happy Cow insists on granting at least one automatically just for being a vegan establishment. This one needs some work.
Pros: supported the sanctuary?, 100% vegan offerings, able to pay with cash
Cons: Unappealing presentation, Food needed to be microwaved, too much $$$ for what you get

Love the vegan scones - Edit
Whenever we're in Norfolk we always come to Hillside for a fill up at the cafe. All vegan, sandwiches, cakes and my favourite - big fat scones served with spread and jam. It's a shame they can't make a decent cup of tea, but it washes the scone down anyway!

Vegan Cafe At The Sanctuary - Edit
Great to find a no-compromise vegan cafe at this excellent animal sanctuary. Really liked the way they take the chance to explain the background of the animals and how people can avoid products that cause animal suffering. Very friendly people in the cafe and shop (shop sells vegan products, cookbooks etc too).
