So good!

This popular place is a bit higher end, and the service, decor and quality of food reflects this. It has a great selection of Shanghainese (like fried buns), Cantonese (like cheung fun) and other delicious food. The menu indicates whether or not there is egg, dairy, peanuts or spiciness, and the wait staff patiently explains the dishes you've ordered in Chinese.

I liked the restaurant so much that I had dinner there two nights in a row, and I'll be sure to visit again soon! A bonus is that you can see the chefs steaming food, folding dumplings etc through a window at the entrance of the restaurant.

Pros: Lots of options, Amazing food, Great service

Hi-Lai Vegetarian is a popular Chinese restaurant in the Hanshin Arena shopping mall next to Kaohsiung Arena Station Station. Most items are vegan and non vegan ones are marked with egg or milk symbols.

You can find an ordering sheet on the table which you can mark the dishes you want. They have a good selection of dim sum and other traditional Chinese dishes available.

I went in the afternoon for the dim sum. The dishes are delicious and nicely presented. I especially love the crispy shredded radish cake and Shanghai bok choi dumplings.

The decor is also nice and modern with comfortable seating.

Pros: Many vegan options and clearly marked, Good food and environment

Best veggie food in Kaohsiung

Hi-Lai Vegetarian is amazing. We visited this restaurant with someone who had been before with a local and loved it.

They serve a variety of dishes; dim sum, rice, noodles, veg dishes etc. All vegetarian and labelled on the menu with a leaf, nut, milk, egg or chilli so you know what’s in it. We got 7 dishes between us and tasted a bit of everything.

You get given a sheet of paper to mark your orders which is really helpful but only in Chinese. It felt like you were cracking a code matching up the Chinese symbols from the menu to the order sheet - not a bad thing if you like that sort of thing!

For the three of us and 7 dishes it cost £25 and we were full at the end of it. 😋

Pros: All vegetarian and labelled clearly , English/Chinese menu, Tastes so good 😋

Cons: Ordering the food on paper is only in Chinese, Limited drinks options
