Intimate, Tasty, Considerate

We were a party of three adults, one toddler, and one infant who needed a refreshing lunch on a hot summer's day.

There is only one table that could accommodate 4, but it was available so we liked our seating. The staff had erected a decorative blind that trailed the floor, and when our stroller ran over it as we walked in, ripping it down, they blithely furled the blind, brushed aside our apology, and offered us a menu.

I ordered the Texiterranean burger and was fascinated by the guac, falafel patties, mediterranean flavor profile (hints of mint and lemon). We also ordered the falafel sandwich (fine) and the portabello sandwich (excellent), all with side salads. For drinks, we indulged in 3 iced chais (yum!) and a berry smoothie (refreshing). This came to $60 without tip.

The intimate interior means that the staff can be very attentive without leaving the counter. For example, they noticed when our toddler dropped his knife on the floor, and a clean one appeared (with a smile) before he had a chance to pick his up.

Our only concerns are that the background music was a bit odd (we prefer the normal coffee shop fare of reggae and jazz classics) and that the bathroom has a rather gritty feel although it is clean.

All in all, we would return in a heartbeat if the winds were to blow us into that neighborhood again.

Pros: food quality / price, attentive / friendly staff, intimate interior

Cons: bathroom could be remodeled, weird music

Nachos!

We stopped here back in April and had the vegan nachos.
They were really good and came with a really interesting soy/cream dressing which was obviously trying to imitate cheese. It was really nice and a good portion, perfect for a snack or dinner in town as vegan options aren't really available in the CBD if you don't have a car!

The chef here is real knowledgeable and came out to chat to us, he's happy to veganise other options or make something different for you if that's what you want. Great find :)

Pros: nachos!, flexible chef

Cons: limited seats & opening hours

Innovative cuisine, edgy environment, a cool place

Hello Day has only about a dozen stools around a counter and is open beyond 3pm only two days a week - Fri/Sat til 10pm - but it has some of the best food in the city. Innovative cuisine, edgy environment, a cool place to be.

I've been a regular for a couple of months now and I'm a vegan so much of of my non-vegan info is from what I hear other customers say. But the burgers are definitely among El Paso's best. The veggie burger IS absolutely El Paso's best (I've tried every veggie burger in town). Breakfast options are exceptional. I particularly like the falafel wrap. I've tried every vegan item on the menu and, if I were not a vegan, I would try everything else - it all looks good and the comments from customers testify to that. Give it a try.

Pros: innovative cuisine, cool atmosphere, best burgers in town

Cons: very small - stools only, open for dinner only Fri and Sat
