Incredibly bland

Tried a couple wraps from heartwood and they were so tasteless, just plain raw chickpeas and veg in a wrap ://

Pros: Nice drinks

Cons: Expensive, Tasteless

Disappointed, but happy it’s there

The bowl I ordered was overpriced for what it was, and the “vegan Caesar” dressing on my partner’s chickpea wrap seemed to be commercial Italian salad dressing, but I hope they stick around. It was great to find kale and tofu in the sea of fried food and dairy ice cream along the waterfront. If you’re really hungry (like I was) it will work in a pinch, but I would suggest taking the short walk to Copper Branch for better value.

Pros: Location

Cons: Overpriced

Don’t bother

Was at the harbour and hoped to find vegan ice cream. The closest we could find was a smoothie at heartwood by the sea. We had a banana peanut butter smoothie that had no flavour and was full of unblended ice chips. Not worth the $8. FYI, we subsequently found non dairy ice cream and chocolate down the road at Peace by Chocolate. Copper Branch is also just a couple of blocks away and is much better choice than Heartwood.

Pros: None

Cons: Overpriced, No flavour , Ice chunks

Tried a vegan smoothie

I tried a $10 vegan chocolate smoothie and it didn't really have any flavor, it basically tasted like a granola smoothie - the only good thing is they can add vegan protein to it making it a bit healthy. Their lemonade is $4, maybe next time I'll try that.

not as wowed as I wanted to be

I was so excited to find healthy real food on the boardwalk but was disappointed by their quality.

Pros: it's real food right on the boardwalk!

Cons: the spring roll was practically all noodles and no, the cookies that were labeled gluten-free were not

lovely Vegan gem

Had a lovely pomegranate, banana and blueberry smoothie. A TLT wrap with smoked tofu. Very tasty. Peanut butter and chocolate cookies were good too. Loved the many vegan options.

Pros: tasty, fresh, vegan food and drinks.

Cons: a bit pricy, but would go back.

Be careful with vegan orders

We ended our coast to coast by train trip to Canada in Halifax, and were happy to find this place right on the waterfront. It was during the busker festival, so they also had a coffee trailer just a bit further down. The workers there were super friendly(I think one was the owner), and the coffee was good. So then another night we were walking along the harbour and decided to grab a bit here. I ordered the taco salad and my husband a burrito. The guy asked my husband if he wanted cheese, to which he said yes. The taco salad looked awesome, but it also looked like it had cheese. My husband took a bit of his burrito, and there was no cheese so it ended up in my dish instead. We simply switched even though I wasn't in the mood for a burrito(it wasn't too exciting...it was really just beans in a tortilla wrap with a small side of salsa), and I didn't want to waste food by returning it. I also found it really expensive for take-away food. I ordered an iced coffee drink that was warm, and my husband had a smoothie with oats that was pretty tasty, and it came up to over $40 *gasp*. We could have gone out to a nice restaurant with service for that price.

Pros: good location, has potential, compostable packaging

Cons: orders get mixed up, overpriced

Yay

Update: Still ecstatic they are on the waterfront but got a spicy peanut bowl yesterday and it wasn't very appetizing. First off the price is high for the amount you get and it was cold and basically mush. My friend got the coconut curry bowl and her sauce was flavorless and basically liquid. Not very appetizing.

I am beyond ecstatic there's now actually a place I can eat on the Halifax Waterfront. Heartwood introduces it's second location in Halifax, a cute little shack where they offer healthy fast food including their famous Heartwood bowls, smoothies, other drinks, cookies, a hummus platter and salads. It's so refreshing to see a fully vegan spot by the water. Although, Heartwood's main restaurant offer dairy cheese, this location is fully vegan as of this moment.
