Nice ambiance and food

Beautiful place, very friendly and attentive staff and very good food.
The have a separate vegetarian and vegan page on their menu.
The beet carpaccio was very good, as well as the ceviche.
The chef even sent a complementary appetizer.
Expensive but worth the experience.

Hotel Restaurant That Cares!

Hawa is the restaurant in the LEED certified Tambo del Inka resort. They have a vegetarian menu and about half the items can be made vegan. The waiters take it seriously when you say 'Somos Veganos'. The manager even checks the vegan dishes. Also a fantastic vegan sorbet desert. But the breakfast buffet is the best! If I could give it 5 stars I would. Great vegan options, a gluten free station, green juices, tons of fruit, and a tea station. Outstanding! Compared to all other hotel restaurants this one blows away the competition with vegan options and their level of care. Compared to a 100% vegan fine dining restaurant, it would just be ok.

Pros: Breakfast Buffet!, Staff cares!

Cons: Expensive for Peru

Expensive and plain food

We called and emailed to advised we were vegan and what that meant. We double checked that they knew this before being seated, and with our waitress. On all accounts, they said they understood. They still managed to offer us a chicken starter which I wasn't happy about. While the complementary bread and sorbet dessert were delicious, the salad entree tasted like lettuce and jam, and the pasta and quinoa mains tasted like a usual meal you can just make at home in both presentation and flavour. Definitely not worth the price in my opinion.

Lovely for a fancy meal and/or special diets

Hawa is the restaurant at the Tambo del Inka, an independently-owned hotel/resort in Urubamba run by excellent chefs who clearly take an active interest in health and sustainability. The first page of the menu is dedicated to organic dishes (and the entire menu uses at least 20% organic ingredients, they say), and there's also a dedicated page for gluten-free options (and the breakfast buffet has a gluten-free table, where even the toaster is reserved only for gluten-free bread, to avoid contamination).

While the majority of the menu items contain animal products of some kind, there are a few vegan dishes (e.g. the Peruvian quinoa salad, et al.) and the chefs are happy to accommodate requests to prepare other dishes vegan when possible.

The quality is very high (both food and service), but the portions are small, so if you're hungry after a Machu Picchu trek you'll need a few dishes to fill up — and the bill will rise accordingly. But if you're looking for fine dining and/or a place that you can count on to take special care to understand your particular dietary needs and prepare a great meal accordingly, then Hawa is your best bet in Urubamba. (Can't imagine a better place for a date, either.)

The atmosphere is very warm, and comfortably elegant. One of the owners of the hotel is the architect who designed it, and clearly much care and imagination went into the design of the space.

Enjoy!

Pros: Very well-prepared food with organic ingredients, very vegan-friendly - just tell your server, suberb locally-inspired architecture & ambience

Cons: Small portions, high prices
