My place to go - Edit
Whenever I am in Zürich that’s where I go. Somehow I never get to order from the menu because I end up to choose the buffet.

Outstanding - Edit
Perhaps the first 100% vegetarian restaurant I ever went to, I used to go to this restaurant religiously in the 90s, and it still is outstanding today.

Most of the dishes were vegan.
There's a large selection between cold dishes, sauces, dips and warm plates.
Unfortunately there wasn't so many vegan dessert options.

Huge and varied buffet - Edit
The buffet here is huge with many options, with many vegan. It is pay by weight, at CHF 5.30 per 100 g. Our main plates came to between CHF 17 to 22, with desserts an additional CHF 7 to 10. The price was reasonable, but we were not big eaters. The a la carte menu seemed more expensive. The food was great. The service nice and efficient. We had a very enjoyable dinner.

A must in Zurich - Edit
I booked my hotel across the street specifically to have Hiltl right at my door step, and it was awesome!!! As with previous reviews, there are a TON of options here, and all of my choices were delicious. All offerings are very clearly marked with symbols, so no language hang-ups or guessing at all. Yes, it is pricey for sure, but worth it IMHO.

Don’t let the word buffet turn you off - Edit
Had no idea about Hiltl until we researched vegan-friendly places the night before. When we learned that it is the oldest vegetarian restaurant and they have a ton of vegan options we wanted to give it a try. Whoa! Everything we had was absolutely delicious. As other people have said, it’s buffet-style, but don’t let that turn you off. There is something for everyone. It’s based on weight of your plate and pricey in our book. That said, everything is pricey here! Also be warned that if you’re driving in, parking can sometimes be challenging but drive a couple blocks this was or that way and you’re good. All in all, worth the price and headache of trying to find parking.

Simply the best - Edit
This is simply the best vegetarian restaurant in Switzerland and probably in Europe. The food is super tasty. I have been to the restaurant several times and I have never been disappointed. I always try something new and it is always very tasty. The restaurant works as a buffet and you the price depends on the weight. Very good option if you're around this area. Recommended.

Must Visit in Zurich - Edit
As it is the longest continuously operated vegetarian restaurant, Hiltl was a must-visit restaurant for me in Zurich. We had the buffet and there were plenty of vegan options (estimate 75%) and I especially appreciated that there were some regional foods I would not have been able to otherwise try (Züri Geschnetzeltes- mushroom and seitan in vegan cream sauce, stroganoff, rosti, etc). They also had a variety of other types of cuisine, such as falafel, Thai curries, Indian curries, tofu and veggies, etc. The buffet space is crowded, but it was no problem to find a table. I was very happy with the food, my husband thought the food was just okay for the price. It is quite expensive (It was ~30 CHF for a fairly full plate of weight, all you can eat is $60), but not so out of line with other restaurants in Zurich.

Pleasant surprise - Edit
We felt privileged to have dined at such an old vegetarian restaurant. It was a good spread and considering it was Zürich, it wasn’t that pricey. I liked the pay by weight concept as well. The ambience was very good. There were so many options for desserts, salads and main course. Another advantage is that Hiltil is quite popular and has several locations there. I would just go to Hiltil or Tibits in Switzerland.

Haus Hiltl is the biggest of the Hiltl restaurants with pay by weight buffet (including take out which is a bit cheaper) and serviced areas. Food is always tasty and plentiful and the are several well marked vegan options. Also serves homemade juices, lemonades and cocktails.

One of my favorites - Edit
I’ve eaten here many times and I’m always happy to come back (my wallet isn’t though!). They weigh your plate so be careful how heavy it gets, brunch can easily be 30-40CHF, especially if you order a beverage. The mango is always perfectly ripe and they have free water. The seated / reservation dining area is also nice, and if the portion is not big enough once you’ve finished you can ask for more at no extra charge. I wish they had vegan pancakes.
Read morePros: Lots of vegan options, Extra portions (table service upstairs) , Plenty of seating

Excellent Selection! - Edit
So many vegan options to choose from! And it’s buffet style (pay by weight) so you can only take a little of everything to try as much as you want. It is kind of expensive if you ask me but I really enjoyed everything I had.

Good buffet but very busy and expensive - Edit
Came here for dinner. The interior is modern, trendy, with tables cramped close together. It was packed full even on an early Thursday evening and the noise level was high. To be honest the whole place was a bit of a zoo. We even had to jostle for the food.
Read moreThe buffet spread was impressive with clear labeling for every dish. The food was pretty decent for a buffet—fresh tasting and quickly replenished—but the price was excessive for what it was at CHF4 per 100 grams or about CHF18 per pound. A moderate plate of food will set you back CHF20 easy. Add a round of dessert and you're looking at upwards of CHF30, assuming you’re good with water, which you’ll drink out of plastic cups. You'd think for the price they charge they'd provide real drinking glasses. Personally I hate to use disposable tableware of any kind.
Overall, I enjoyed the food just fine but the whole experience left something to be desired. I suggest not coming hungry or you’ll end up paying an arm and a leg. If I were to come back, I’d try the a la carte menu upstairs.
Pros: Nice spread , Good food
Cons: Expensive, Single-use plastic cups, Crowded
