Always a great visit

I always love visiting Hiltl when I’m in Zurich. Their excellent buffet is varied in cuisine and style, offering delicious food with allergens clearly identified.

Pros: Sumptuous buffet, Great atmosphere, Varied flavours/cuisines

Cons: Can be a little pricey

Oldest Vegetarian Restaurant in the World 🤩

Had a delicious buffet lunch here which had so much choice! We both cleared our plates as the food was delicious. It also had all the allergens clearly marked which was great for me as a coeliac (still loads to choose from).
It’s walk ins only but we got a table right away and seems to be a high turnover rate so pop in whenever you can.
Be warned that it is priced by weight of the plate so choose wisely 😉

Pros: Lots of choice, Buzzy atmosphere , Delicious food

Cons: Pricey but it is Switzerland I guess 🤷‍♀️

Limited choice for those not taking allium

Tasty food. Nice ambience. But very limited choice for those not taking alliums for Ala-carte. No options to exclude alliums.

Tried the buffet next day, have a wider variety of choices. But seems pricer 😅

Pros: Tasty food

Cons: Less than 5 dishes without alliums for ala-carte, No options to exclude alliums

Must-visit

Incredible range of vegan choices and all allergens are clearly marked. We ordered from the seasonal menu and every item was vegan. The a la carte has plenty of choices from burgers to curries. The buffet looked great also.

I had the potato truffle soup (w vegan bacon, chives and truffle oil) which was really tasty then the hiltl wellington. The wellington was tofu which was surprising but had good flavour, the gravy was delicious and the cream savoy cabbage was a highlight! I then had the buffet desert bowl and the range of vegan cakes and sweet treats was amazing.

My boyfriend had the carrot lax tatar for starters and chlausreis for main, both of which had super strong flavours. Not personally for me but they were definitely very flavourful! He also had the baked apple desert which was super yummy.

This place is really cool - lovely seating areas, staff were incredible, easy location. Only downside really is the price but it’s Switzerland so as expected.

It’s also cool to be in the oldest vegetarian restaurant in the world, would definitely recommend.

Anything you like

Went several times to the Dachterasse with the buffet but first time at the restaurant with a la carte dishes. Took the burger with all vegan alternatives. Very tasty with good home made patty unlike many industrial options in other restaurants.

Pros: Lots of vegan options , Friendly atmosphere , Home made ice tea

Tons of options

We took the starters à la carte. They were very delicious. For the main course and for the dessert we went to the buffet. There are so many vegan options and it's a pity that you can't try them all. I had a hot chocolate as well which was also very tasty. It's similar to Tibits but I liked the view better and it's great that you can order à la carte.

Cons: Expensive

Awesome!

This place is almost identical to Tibits and overall I’d say they were equally as good (amazing), though this place is slightly better on dessert!

Fantastic buffet, with soo much choice!

At least 70% of options are vegan, and there’s a brief English description of each food item

Huge buffet... hard to decide what to eat!

Recently I visited Hiltl again.
Unfortunately, I didn't check out the web site beforehand for discounts, unfortunately they changed it, thus I payed an enourmous amout for just one plate picked from the buffet in the bar section. Last time I visited about one year ago, I payed like 1/3 less for a similar amout of food!

I like their food it is delicious worth 5 stars, the staff mostly is exceptionally friendly.
Cons are the the awful and loud music (needs improvement) and it's always kind of crowded.
Unfortunately, the staff isn't paid that well as at other places.
That's why there is only 3 stars overall.

Pros: delicous, friendly staff

Cons: price to pay v.s. hourly wages for the staff, music, crowded, even during non-rushhours

Good but expensive

It was my first time ever visiting Hiltl. My expectations were very high since it is very hyped and expensive. It was good but not more. I had a small salad as a starter, then the tatar and for dessert a banana-chocolate icecream. the salad was okay but nothing special. tatar was good but you can easily make one at home that tastes more or less the same for almost no money. the ice cream was very delicious. service was also very good.

Pros: lots of vegan options

Cons: expensive, Wow-factor is missing

Excellent

The crew all nice, even in busy circumstances. They clearly mark all the food in buffet or in a la carte menu. So do not worry if you have some prohibited ingredients for yourself ( onion, garlic, gluten, milk, etc ). They have choices for everybody.

Pros: Many choices with clear mark , Buffet or ala carte choice, Nice dessert

A big classic

“The” vegetarian restaurant should turn vegan to be up to his name, otherwise will always look as an outdated place in comparison to his history.
The place is big, the buffet too but with too many non vegan options.
The quality of the food is out of discussion though.

Pros: Food quality , Big space (outdoor too), Good selection of food

Too overrated

Nice to have vegan buffet options, but I do not understand the hype of this restaurant. My food was low temperatured and they could have been more creative with what they offer. I have seen and tasted better buffets in the world.

Impressive Veg Buffet

Haus Hitl holds the title of the oldest vegetarian restaurant (at least in Europe). You wouldn’t be able to tell from the hip, modern vibe inside.

This is the mothership of a collection of satellite restaurants throughout the region. You walk in, select items from the buffet, weigh it, and find a seat in the bar/cafe. You can also do sit down. There is free self-service tap water, postcards, and matches.

There must be around 100 vegetarian options representing 10 or more international cuisines, some I’ve never heard of before. Most are vegan. In my opinion, the curries and fruit-flavored whips stood out in regards to flavor. Otherwise, the food was good but not great.

You can save some money by being your own rake away container, but this place is double the price of what you’ll pay in other expensive countries like the US. You’ll easily spend €25-35 on a plate, which is about the average cost of meals in Zurich.

Pros: Incredible variety, Upbeat, hip vibe, Free souvenirs

Cons: Very expensive

Legendary vegetarian restaurant

It's a must to visit in Zurich. Huge selection of options and it's a buffet. Many vegan dishes. Try the sauces, some are excellent and make sure to go back for dessert as mango mouse is fantastic.
It's really expensive though, even for Zurich so better not to load up on basics as price is per weight (my 5year old wanted chips and ketchup and it made my eyes water).
Very nice fresh lemonades, friendly service and a lot of space to sit.

Pros: Lots of choices, including many vegan options, Clearly labelled allergies, Tasty food, deserts and drinks

Cons: Expensive
