Fab Vegan Sunday Dinner!

Excellent Sunday lunch/dinner option for vegans, Wellington with potatoes, veg, lots of vegan gravy. It was delicious, and hot, and the staff were lovely. On the downside, there were very few vegan options at this place (burger or Sunday dinner) but if you want the Vegan Roast option, I'd deffo recommend this!

Pros: Tasty Vegan Sunday Dinner , Nice ambience, Friendly Staff

Cons: Not many vegan options

Few but good options

According to other reviews and happycow, there was supposed to be quite a few vegan options, but when we went, they only had the burger and the vegan fish and chips for mains.
We both went for the banana blossom fish and chips which was something I’d wanted to try again for a while. The texture was really good and the batter was nice, but I feel it was a bit flavourless. Maybe could’ve been marinated or had some seaweed in to make it more fishy. The tartar sauce is what gave most the flavour. I’ve seen other people raving about it and my mum really liked it so maybe it’s just me.
Other than that, the chips were really nice and the service friendly and quick.

Pros: Filling meal, Quick service

The only place in Torbay doing veg fish & chips

This is by far the best vegan menu I saw at a non vegan place in all of Torbay. I had the fish and chips, the banana blossom that it’s made out of is surprisingly fishy. My partner had the tikka masala and we both really liked it. Were too full to have desserts but they sounded really nice too.

Pros: Delicious food

Cons: Not rating 5 stars only cos it’s not a vegan place

Lovely vegan “fish” and chips

St Austell brewery pub in a lovely location right on the harbour front with loads of outdoor seating for the good weather.

A rarity in that it had a vegan option on the kids menu (vegan Quorn sausages) so didn’t have to end up buying expensive adult meals for our vegan daughter.

The main lunch menu had a couple of clearly marked vegan options, banana blossom “fish” and chips, roasted cauliflower and hummus flatbread were the ones I could remember.

Went for the banana blossom fish and chips, served with mushy peas and tartar sauce. It was excellent.

Some inventive options for a non - vegan place

Lovely setting on the harbour - upstairs dining area has views over the harbour one side and beach the other.
Not a huge range of choice, but what they did offer was done well and a little different - eg falafel wrap was made with beetroot falafel, tasty roasted pepper soup, and the desserts were outstanding. The vanilla pod Cheesecake was incredibly creamy, while the poached pineapple was really unusual.

Lovely clean restaurant with great views and decent vegan options

Vegan options are clearly marked and appear to be well though out rather than just a token vegan burger thrown on the menu. I had the vegan fish and chips made from banana blossom. Tartare sauce was really good, I have come to the conclusion that I just don’t like banana blossom so no reflection on HL.

Fantastic food, atmosphere and service.

Fantastic food, so nice to have a few options for meals rather than just a token pasta dish. My partner is a meat eater so we tend to go to places that sell both options and the food here was lovely. I am vegetarian but had the vegan meatballs with linguine in a tomato sauce, followed by warm chocolate brownie with clotted cream for dessert. OMG so good!

The staff were fantastic, very attentive. Went out of their way to get us a table with good views and ensured my dietary needs were catered for.

The location is beautiful, on Paignton harbour with views over the water.

100% covid safe too!
