Really good and clearly labeled

Vegan dishes are clearly marked. Tofu curry was excellent, as was strawberry/banana smoothie with hemp protein.

Vegan buffalo cauliflower Caesar salad

Obsessed with this salad. Also a favorite amongst my non vegan friends. I haven’t tried any other vegan options because I crave this salad specifically and have to order it when I go 😂

Pros: Buffalo cauliflower, Crispy chickpeas, Coconut bacon

Don’t miss the vegan bulgogi bowl

Really enjoyed the vegan bulgogi bowl! The avocado toast was loaded and tasty too.

Great salad

I’ve been to Happy and Hale twice in the last month. It’s a great place to get a healthy, veggie full meal.

Metal in food!!!

I am shocked and disappointed at our experience today. My partner took a bite out of a METAL WIRE in her bowl. A WIRE! It causes her tooth pain and hopefully nothing was damaged. Imagine if she swallowed this? This level of negligence is dangerous and off putting. They truly need to step it up. I’m sure the food administration would
Not approve of this. SECONDLY we received a new bowl of food which my partner cautiously ate and SURPRISE! There was a piece of MEAT in her vegan bowl. I’m just
In shock. You should definitely take precise care in preparing vegan dishes next to meat products. Especially at an establishment who seems to embolism these dietary differences. So sad. The manager seemed apologetic but no remedy was offered other than a refund which is SAD! I’m really shocked at our experience. Be warned.

Good and healthy

Based on the reviews, this place has changed over the years! On my visit there were 2 signature salads/bowls that are vegan as is, but it looks like several more could be tweaked to be made vegan, and they have a “build your own” option. They have a nice variety of options to combine for unique bowls, like kale/arugula/cabbage slaw; quinoa/herbed rice, squash, beets, pickled onions and carrots, harissa and lemon tahini, peas and mushrooms, and much more.

I had the Incredibowl, which tasted delicious and was well put together. I only wish it had a little more dressing. Also had the lemon GI bf er kombucha that was on tap, which was really light and refreshing.

Pros: Lots of choices to build your own dish

Need more vegan options!

Like the idea but it’s very egg and meat heavy. Catering more to the paleo crowd.

I love thins place:]

I have loved Happy and Hale since the first time I visited the spot in Raleigh. They have great smoothies, all of which can be made vegan and gluten free. They also have kombucha on tap! When I am staying overnight in Durham, there is a 75% chance I am running to Happy and Hale for my breakfast smoothie.

Pros: Fresh, Yummy, Nice staff

Cons: None

healthy food, great staff

Happy + Hale is a great place to get fresh salads/bowls, cold-pressed green juices, or smoothies. Some items are outright vegan or most others can easily be modified without negatively affecting the dish. (I think in the Durham location the only non-vegan items are cheese and honey. The Raleigh location does have one salad with meat (chicken & bacon) on it but I have not seen this on the Durham menu). You order at the salad bar/counter, and then the server walks down the line and makes it all in front of you. You can also ask them to chop the salad rather than toss it. The salads are all creative and have a bunch of ingredients, including nuts, lentils, avocados, etc so most are very filling and satisfying. The staff are always happy, warm, and enthusiastic. The restaurant is clean and modern. I also like they use compostable containers and encourage recycling. Has an "eco" vibe. I love that they open early (7am weekdays, 8am weekends).

Pros: many vegan or vegan friendly options, great staff, healthy and fast
