Pleasantly surprised

While the menu options were limited - 1 main, 1 - entree and a few sides, I was pleasantly surprised by how tasty and satisfying my meal at Hamer’s was. I ordered the vegan main on offer (stuffed pepper with black rice and vegetables) and one of the sides (Green beans and Brussel sprouts in a light curry), both were delicious. The green beans and Brussels sprouts were the standout though and I feel like it’s a missed opportunity for the restaurant not to turn this dish into a vegan main meal.. Overall was really quite pleased and will visit again next time I’m in Strahan.

Pros: Great flavour , Sides were quite generous

Cons: Limited vegan options for main/entree.

Little vegan options

Given that options are very limited in Strahan, I came here one Tuesday evening with a few friends, but unfortunately so did almost every other tourist in town. The wait for a table was longer than we were prepared to take, so ended up going to there pub. The bar food menu is limited and the sweet potato fries are cooked in the same oil as the calamari etc. The garden salad is not available in the pub unfortunately. Self catering may be the better option if you are coming this way - although maybe they’ll start offering more vegan options if they get more demand.

Vegan chickpea and potato curry was delicious. Huge serving size, so tasty with cashew sour cream. Yes it’s the only option but we were glad to find anything whilst in Strahan and this did not disappoint. Greta location on the water and good service also. Highly recommend.

Not many options, but Italian salad was delicious

This is one of only a few dining options in the area and the Italian salad starter can be made vegan on request. Although this is the only vegan option it was delicious and was satisfying as a main. Sadly the chips are not vegan.

Pros: Salad was delicious

Cons: Not many vegan options, Chips are not vegan
