Lovely food, vibrant restaurant, great service. Almost everything is vegan. It’s not cheap, but good inventive food. The tables/chairs are a bit cheap and nasty, but I’d go back.

Only recently discovered that the New (post Covid) menu is more focussed on Fine Dining, it is delicious! I have no idea how Gys prepared some of the elements of our meals, but they were impressive and delicious.
Read moreThe two kids that were with us (I still had the 'vegetarian burger menu' in my mind ; ) were sceptic at first and didn't know what to order, but truly enjoyed the food as well. The dessert was one of their highlights (and personally one of mine too, with the 'Rose 🌹 Ice cream / sorbet' as an unforgettable sensation, yummy !

Vegan & gluten-free restaurant - Edit
Gys might be one of my favorite vegan & gluten-free restaurants in town. The food is always fresh, delicious and looks absolutely amazing. Everything is made from scratch so you are guaranteed wholesome food. Unfortunately, Gys is a little bit expensive but considering the food is organic and all that, I do understand. And, depending on the dish, the portions vary in size. Which, sometimes, feels a bit odd considering the amount of money you have to pay.

Ik heb verschillende keren bij Gys gegeten of besteld. Het voelt altijd een klein beetje als een iets minder dodelijk potje Russisch roulette. 9/10 keer krijg je heerlijk eten en ben je super tevreden, en die ene keer stelt het echt teleur. Ook is er soms behoorlijk kwaliteitsverschil tussen de elementen op het bord.

Overwegend tevreden klant, maar in de consistentie kan het dus nog wat beter

Wel kunnen we je vertellen dat we sinds eind april een stuk meer ervaring op hebben gedaan met het bereiden van de shroom steak dus dat ie waarschijnlijk tegenwoordig wel minder taai en meer diepte heeft. Hopelijk mogen we je snel weer bij GYS verwelkomen om de shroom steak, of iets anders lekkers te serveren! Nogmaals, super bedankt voor de opbouwende en eerlijke feedback. Hier kunnen we namelijk zeker wat mee!

Good food, busy/loud restaurant - Edit
Maybe I’m just not used to being in a busy and loud environment anymore but when we arrived at GYS it was absolutely packed. The food and drinks were really good though! We had raspberry lemonade, buffalo wings, vegan kapsalon and a snickers dessert. The staff was very friendly and we got our food quite fast even though it was so busy.

What a disappointment - Edit
I had been to the other location beforehand so I had high expectations, which were completely disappointed.
Read moreWe had the carrot salmon as a starter: too “crispy” and did not taste like a carrot salmon should. It was basically just 6 unseasoned oily carrot slices with some sort of Mayo? Which also did not have a distinct taste. 8€ for that is just insulting.
My friend had the chicken burger for ~17€, which was tiny, the cole slaw did not taste like anything.
My Kapsalon mushroom meat was half burned and had no seasoning to it either. The fries we order never arrived but were not taken off the bill either until we pointed that out. Never going again, horrible experience and still hungry after paying a whopping 50€

Lots of vegan options. They were surprising! I had the chickenlike burger. I really liked the corn and salad that came with. The burger tasted surprising like thyme. For me, it was a bit too salted (I’m not used to that). The Virgin Pineapple Sunset mocktail is recommended. And the deconstructed tiramisu was startling.

Such a good atmosphere with happy music & people. I had a dirty chai, juice and the vegan shakshuka. I asked for extra tortilla's and they were happy to provide. Super yummy and many other options that I'm looking forward to trying.

Most dishes can be served vegan and gluten free, all very clearly marked on the menu. Not the standard go to dishes, so if you're in need of some variation this is a great place. There was a choice of 4 vegan cakes, which made it hard to choose! I choose the poppy seed lemon cake which was delicious.

I have had the Rendang and a piece of Black Forest cake, which tasted both okay but not extraordinary. The former has had nearly no jackfruit pieces, which I had expected after reading the menu, and the latter was quite dry for a cream cake.

Most food options from the menu sound really appealing and "different" than the ones you would find in a regular vegan cafe/restaurant. We were both so keen to try most dishes and the difficulty was to really to choose. We ended up by ordering 2 starters, a main to share and the "grand dessert" ( a selection of 4 different desserts).
No dishes actually disappointed. Not in the slightest.
We ordered the smoked salmon (and yes it really tasted like salmon) and the aubergine cannelloni filled with vegan ricotta as starters. We went for the romanesco risotto as the main. Everything was absolutely delicious.
The romanesco risotto and the grand dessert were - hands down - 2 of the favourite dishes I have ever had.
Also, the fact everything in the restaurant is 100% organic and gluten free is just a bonus!
I can't believe it took me this much time to visit GYS but I am sure I will be coming here more often.
Pros: "Different" and great variety of food options, 100% Organic and gluten free, Very attentive and overall top service
