Decent vegan meal! - Edit
Ordered the sesame noodles (small portion though, could order 2 as it's only 40), spicy noodles for 80 (comes in a spicy broth), rice with vegan meat for 60 (comes with veg also) and a side of mushroom or tofu from the selection at front. This all came to 245. It was 65 for a king oyster mushroom, and two tofu slabs.

Had this on my radar to try and luckily this was one of the only veggie places open between 2pm-5pm, and it was still a little busy which is a sign.

The food is typical taiwanese but transferred to vegetarian cuisine.

They have an English menu card, which you will get automatically ar the table.

We were really not expecting to find much in Hualien but this was an absolute godsend! The dumplings were the best - piping hot and super tasty. The Japanese style curry was warm and mellow. The vegetable soup was excellent too. Brilliant!

Visited a couple times and had great experiences. The pan fried turnip cakes are amazing (they aren’t listed on the English menu but I showed a picture of them, and they are in the buffet). I really like the rice bowl with vegan meat, you get to choose three veggies from the buffet to accompany it. Little English is spoken and everyone is really friendly and accommodating, and there is an English menu.

Good set meal but buffet SO expensive - Edit
One of us took a cheap meal around 45 NTD (curry) it was really GOOD. But the other one ordered at the buffet (take away) and paid 185 NTD for only some items with rice and vegetables. It was good but definitely not worth this price if you want to try several mock meats or many items!

The rave reviews for the sesame noodles and dumplings are well deserved. The curry isn’t spicy, in fact it’s bland. But it’s all good. Inexpensive too.

Just a heads up in case you ever go back (or anyone else sees your comment) I checked with the owner today (8th Apr ‘21) and she confirmed that all but one of the mock meats are not vegan. They contain egg and milk.

it was a marvelous lunch! and very afordable too. pick noodles or rice and some tofu/ mock meat or maybe a healthy set meal and they bring you a bit of everything. nice condiments and spices in the back od the restaurant. locals eat here too. it’s funny how they remind you that this is a vegetarian place, yeah that’s why we’re here ^^

Was here July 2019. Saw this place listed on happycow and gave it. Here's my Guo Xiang Yuan review. It's a basic place typical of Taiwan where you see the kitchen outside. The menu is written in Chinese on the wall. We got a bowl of spicy vege-beef noodles, pan-fried turnip cake, and gyoza. Everything was flavorful.

Pick your own mock meats, tofu variations and vegetables and they’ll stir fry it for you and/or pick dishes from the English menu. All very tasty. Went back a couple of times during our stay in Hualien!

Delicious Local Food - Edit
This simple restaurant serves cheap and tasty local food. I loved the dumplings with sweet sauce, and the noodles were delicious. The flavour was of a unique local style. They had an English menu, service was speedy, and the staff were very friendly. I would definately recommend going here to try some nice Taiwanese food.

Totally veggie menu in English. We tried four dishes, all delicious and fresh. Ordering the 'healthy set meal rice' gives you a choice of 5 dishes from the buffet. Can definitely recommend. Also had both the dumpling options which were ace. Really nice staff. Can't fault it.

We have (over)eaten here the last two nights. We ordered various noodle soups from the menu plus a selection of soy products/mock meats etc from the display out front, plus steamed and fried dumplings. The noodle soups have simple flavors but are fresh and satisfying. The dumplings are really, really tasty - especially the potstickers. 3 of us pretty much rolled out of there for around NT$400. Recommend.

We were greeted by the owner i assume. The one and only person with fluent english we have encountered so far in taiwan and was very warm despite carrying her toddler. Clean, hygienic, delicious.

This place is great, they have a really big menu (in English!) or you can choose your own veggies & mock meats. If you're like me and can't choose go for the healthy rice set. It comes with 5 different items all for 70NT. They have nice spice dips you can add in the back. Kind staff too!
