delicious food, payment methods could use work - Edit
First, I want to say that the food's flavor and presentation were AMAZING. Second, the catering staff was friendly and wonderful to interact with. Third, Mostly non-vegans attended the event and EVERYONE loved the food. (Stuffed mushrooms and focaccia bread were uh-mazing).
Read moreA suggestion to prospective clients: I would say that if you want to hire this company to cater your event you should prepare to send your full payment in EARLY. Do NOT wait to be asked to send payment a week prior to the event via bank-certified check, as was requested by the caterer. In this instance, the payment was delayed at the post office and did not arrive in time for the event. The company never outwardly stated they would refuse to serve without payment in hand, however, there was a considerable amount of pressure placed on the hosts to find a way to provide a second payment (a sum of several thousand dollars) to cover the outstanding balance. It's worth mentioning that the tracking number indicated that the check was already at the catering company's local post office, but they continued to request payment until a couple of hours before the event when THANKFULLY a generous guest attending the event offered to front the funds needed to resolve the outstanding balance (i.e. several thousand dollars). After the event, the caterer confirmed that the certified bank check had arrived some time that day while they had been catering the event. Not to worry, the guest who fronted the money will be receiving their reimbursement soon. Although everything worked out, the hang-up created a great deal of stress for the hosts. From a guest's perspective who was witnessing this event unfold, I couldn't help but think that offering Zelle payment in lieu of a certified check might have been better for everyone. I also think it makes more sense to request full payment (including a certified check) from a client 30 days BEFORE the scheduled event. This way, if there's a problem, it can be resolved before the event.
If I were the caterer for this event, and I could see clear as day (via tracking number) that the check was so close to arriving at my business and I knew that the delay was due to the post and NOT due to a client attempting to skip out on payment- I would have trusted the check would arrive. I wouldn't put my hosts in a position where a guest would have to pay on their behalf. I would learn from the incident and think of a more efficient payment policy going forward.
