Omni approved - Edit
I went here with my (very picky) omni family and everyone absolutely loved the food. We had the mushroom calamari, Tokyo fries , dragon balls, and buffalo cauliflower to start. All the apps were amazing but the mushroom calamari was probably my favourite. The Philly cheesesteak was underwhelming , but the house pasta was delicious. The atmosphere was casual, and the place wasn’t busy so everything was prepared super quick. Will definitely be back!

One of our favs - Edit
We've been going here for years, since the pandemic. Picked up their Bahn Mi sandwich, one of my favorites in all of San Diego today. Soft bread, pickled veggies and jackfruit meat.

Big portions of tasty vegan food. - Edit
Starters were very tasty, especially the popcorn chicken. Mains were a bit oily for my liking but otherwise tasty generous portions. Service was quick and friendly. Would definitely return

Average - Edit
Good serving sizes and well priced, I just found everything a little under seasoned. The onions rings were pretty average, a bit too much batter and not enough onion for me. Was good otherwise.

Oh Those Potatoes! - Edit
You’ve got to try the potato wedges~ absolutely phenomenal. Also loved the Dragon Balls, they’re listed as an appetizer but they are sweet, gooey and delicious. Also enjoyed the Philly sandwich. Tried the larb which I would not order again. Def going back.

Good Diverse menu - Edit
The menu was full of delicious sounding items and my only regret is wanting to try more. I got the oyster mushroom calamari and the pad Thai. Both were good! I enjoyed the calamari the most because it was different then what I can get elsewhere. The portions for the pad Thai was great! Overall I’d come again

Great vegan food - Edit
We came here for lunch and liked everything we ordered. We couldn’t stop eating the popcorn chicken, it was crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside (definitely get this as your starter!). The garlic potato wedges were delightful as well. We also ordered the grain garden dish, which was just average for my tastes. Shared the passionfruit and orange kombucha on tap and I highly recommend it if it’s available. Excellent service! Great vegan spot!

Mixed Opinions - Edit
My boyfriend decided to try Grains since we love supporting local vegan restaurants, but our feelings are mixed. I liked my food overall, but I am stuck between three or four stars. My boyfriend was pretty disappointed and said he would give it three stars.
Read moreWe ordered take-out, so I cannot speak for the location or atmosphere, but the food was hit or miss. We ordered the bahn mi, potato wedges, kale tempura, tofu nuggets, and tom kah. The bahn mi, potato wedges, and tofu nuggets were all “meh” at best. The bahn mi maybe was just not our kind of dish (which is odd because I like bahn mi’s from other restaurants), but the potato wedges were overcooked, and the tofu was super bland. I like tofu, so I didn’t mind, but for $7, I would expect a little more. The kale tempura was super tasty, even though it was pretty oily. The tom kah in my opinion was good, but my boyfriend disagreed as he said it tasted “off.”
Overall, I have mixed feelings about the food. However, with so many vegan options in San Diego, I more than likely will not try Grains again. But, I still recommend giving Grains a try, as some items were delicious and they have many other options.

Rustic Vibe - Edit
Grains has a casual vibe and rustic decor. At the entrance is the ordering counter. Then, you seat yourself at any of the farm house tables and chairs. I ordered the glazed chick'n strips and mango sticky rice. The chick'n was crunchy with similar flavors of the Panda Express orange chicken with a kick of pepper. My favorite was their mango sticky rice. The texture of the rice was spot on. Overall, the menu has some interesting items worth trying, and it's great to have a vegan spot in the neighborhood.

Loved the larb! - Edit
I stopped by after landing in San Diego and was not disappointed. A cut cafe with lots of items on the menu.. all vegan! I had the tofu larb and it was delicious. I used to love having larb and this was so close to the original- spicy, sour- yum! I just wish I had some big lettuce leaves to make wraps.

Interesting menu. Most everything has been pretty good. Bahn mi and popcorn chicken were pretty good. The Philly sandwich didn’t have enough filling. Remember liking the pasta a lot.

Best vegan restaurant in San Diego? - Edit
Grains is definitely one of my top 2 vegan restaurants in San Diego. I am addicted to basically all of the appetizers. Also, I am the type of person who tends to get the same exact dish every time I go to a restaurant, but at grains I have 3 entree options that I love. Considering how small the menu is that is amazing! I love this place. Also the staff are great!
