Delicious food - Edit
All vegan Japanese cafe. Food was delicious. Only seating has several larger tables and some single window seats. Only has traditional tatami seating so you have to sit either cross legged or on your knees which was not the most comfortable.

They have relocated - Edit
They have moved to a bigger place where groups can sit on the tatami flower! Only 10 minutes walk from Nagoya station. I highly recommend okara-konjac meal. Definitely my favourite! All lunch comes with miso soup.

Tasty and cozy - Edit
Took my son for lunch and we both enjoyed our meals. He had the kimchee ramen and I had the fried chicken set. The service was friendly and quick and we’ll definitely be back.

Sweet Little Vegan Cafe - Edit

Read moreThis vegan restaurant is near Komeno Station, which is a quiet neighborhood just one stop away from Nagoya Station on the Kintetsu Nagoya line. The restaurant is on the second floor and is small with only about 6-7 seats.
This cold tantan noodles has flavorful mince on top, with pickles, fried eggplant, kimchi cucumber, and other veggies. It’s a colorful and tasty dish.
The second dish is a hamburger. It has teriyaki sauce, tomato and lettuce. Simple but nicely made.
Note: they may close unexpectedly. On the day of the visit, the restaurant appears to be closed. But after messaging the owner on Facebook, she came out and greeted me inside. So if you plan to visit, messaging on Facebook in advance can be a good idea.
As they don't have an English menu, I've translated their Japanese menu here.
Pros: All vegan, Good quality food
Cons: May be closed unexpectedly (call or message on FB)

Small restaurant, great food - Edit
What makes a restaurant great isn't the size of the building or the dining area. It's the quality of the food. What makes food even better, is a passionate chef. Meet "Organic Cafe & Dining". It's located in a residential area, about 20 minutes walking from Nagoya station. The restaurant has only two tables, a counter (maximum capacity of about 10 people) and a very enthusiastic chef.
Read moreThe menu is in Japanese only, but it does have photos to make things easier. I went for a bowl of rice, vegetables and tofu. This may sound simple, but the way the chef executes this recipe turns it into a great meal. The tofu comes in two flavours: fried and wrapped in a croquet. There's a wide variety of vegetables: broccoli, okra, tomato, lettuce, potato, daikon and even kimchi (Korean fermented lettuce). As a finishing touch a piece of heart shaped red daikon is placed on top. As the name suggests "Organic Cafe & Dining" uses organic ingredients only and it shows; all vegetables were full of flavour. The wide variety of ingredients made the meal nourishing. The sheer size of the bowl gave me plenty of energy for the remainder of the day.
As a side dish miso soup is served, which may well be the best miso soup I ever had. Rich in vegetables and with a tasty, not salty broth. This chef even knows how to improve on a Japanese standard that comes with almost every meal. That's what distinguishes this great and passionate chef from a regular chef. That's what makes this small restaurant a great experience!
Pros: high quality ingredients, tasty food, wonderful people
Cons: only serves lunch, no English menu (but does have photos)

Fantastic food and Awesome Owner - Edit
This is one of the best vegan restaurants in Nagoya. Everything I've had here was fantastic, from the soymeat chicken, to the veggie burger, to the soups, to the blueberry soda. The owner is very friendly, and loves interacting with the customers. This restaurant is walkable from Nagoya station (15-20min) but is a bit hard to find because it's in a residential neighborhood, so let Google Maps be your friend.

Hidden Little Gem! - Edit
Found on the second floor of a house on a quiet street, this restaurant was super cute and the owner was an amazing lady. We tried the hamburger with fries (900yen), curry with rice and veggies (900yen) and Macha ice cream with red beans and brown rice dumplings (780yen). All super tasty!

Excellent Meal - Edit
A really nice Nagoya experience. Lovely owner/chef in an out of the way quiet location. Food was excellent including assorted vegan appetisers, salads, beef Hamburg (Japanese style) and western hamburger. Desert was another highlight, delicious chocolate cake with soy matcha ice cream. Highly recommended and lovely hospitality. Easy parking adjacent.

Absolutely incredible and super cheap! - Edit
The burger was exceptionalll- hands down the best one I’ve had in Japan. The chef was super sweet as well. Despite being confused over the opening times I was so happy to find this little gem open- there was a massive sign which was super helpful in spotting it! Most of the dishes were only 700-1000 yen and there was delicious dessert options as well!

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to visit the actual restaurant, but I got to try their food at the Nagoya Vegan Gourmet Festival. It was truly delicious! I hope to visit the restaurant on my next trip to Japan. If you’re in Nagoya, please give it a try!

a serendipitous stop in Nagoya - Edit
I had a few hours to kill waiting for a bus and discovered that Grains was only a 15 min walk away! So I wandered through charming suburbs to a yellow house into one of the best experiences I had in Japan. The owner/chef was so happy to see me and even though she spoke little English we had some laughs. The food she prepared for me was incredible, the space was cosy and quiet. She generously gifted me an amazing dessert that had a sticky sweet chestnut on top, as well as a fresh baked bun for the road - so lovely and generous!! I had a grin on my face for the rest of the day. This is a must visit!!
