Traditional Japanese Food

Such a cute spot. I wanted to like the food but the flavours and textures were a bit too Japanese tasting for me. Great for an adventurous foodie. But the atmosphere and desert were lovely.

Great vegan spot near Nagoya station

Ordered takeout: curry, teriyaki, that chicken nugget looking dish, and some cookies.
All dishes tasted good for the price they charge, the curry was light on salt, but not too light to be bland. Chicken nugget and teriyaki used the same soy chunk which was a let down. The cookie was great.

Btw, keep your shoes away from the shelf for cookies. (see my 3 line haiku below)

Pros: Good taste, Fair price

Cons: Cookies glass jar, dropped by the waitress, A glass shard pierced my foot

Fantastic food

Wife and i on honeymoon, and in Nagoya for ghibli Park. Came here, and it was the best food we've had after 2 weeks in japan. The starter of the evening set menu was particularly phenomenal.

Vegan

Pros: 素食牛丼, 拉麵, 前菜

Delicious okacon meal

I ordered their okacon (which includes a bbq dish made of okara and konyaku) set meal. The bbq dish was so good, it felt like it melts in your mouth. I also like the sashimi made of nata de coco. And I like that it includes a dessert of your choice (I highly recommend the gennmaidango). Everything in the meal was really delicious. And the service was also good (the chef is vegan :)). And the place was so nice and cozy. It was a great experience.

The BEST vegan meat I’ve ever had.

I came here for lunch and had the set with the Okacon Kabayaki - a vegan ‘eel’ made from Konnyak. I’m not usually a fan of faux meats but this blew my mind. It was by far the best texture I’ve ever experienced in a a faux meat and was immediately sending photos telling my other vegan friends about it.

Yummy vegan deliciousness

This is a neat little place that you wouldn’t expect to find behind these walls. Very friendly service, passionate owner and chef, and good food. Be aware that it’s Japanese seating style where you sit on the floor. That’s not for everyone. Recommend to have the matcha soy latte iced.

Lovely place

One of the best meals I've had in Japan, rich flavors and interesting textures. There's only one person taking the orders, cooking and serving the food so service can be slow if it gets too crowded. It can be a little pricey compared to other options in Japan at 3,300 yen for the multi course dinner but it's absolutely worth it.

Good cozy place

The meal sets have good portions. The burger was good, and the desserts were even better. The environment is cozy, you sit on the floor so there are cushions instead of regular chairs.

Simple and amazing

Lovely little family run place. It’s a small menu, Japanese style of sitting on the floor. Food takes time, so make sure you’re not in a rush.

Sanitation issue

I had hairs in my plate, 3 times in a roll from this restaurant. I mentioned to the owner but she didn’t seem to care.

Warm Atmosphere and Solid Food

Grains is a bit of a different experience as it clearly isn't a purpose built restaurant. Grains is a converted home and for that reason, seating is on small cushions on a tatami floor. For most this probably isn't an issue, myself included, but for others, be sure you know how your seating will be! I personally enjoy the warm more homey atmosphere.

There's not a lot of seating either but they don't let it ever get too uncomfortable.

The menu is average in size with a choice of main dish and desserts that come along with a plate of various small sides. Overall the food is good quality and tastes fine, although I don't really think it's anything too special, save for one or two items like the "eel".

The side dishes I think are what hold Grains back as I don't think their miso soup is very good, but everything else was either fine or yummy!

I've been to Grains on a few occasions over a few years now, and the most recent was for lunch (picture attached), and this was typical.

But I have been here in the past where meal times were scheduled in blocks and it was a buffet style where you grabbed plates and went into the kitchen and selected what you wanted. I actually enjoyed this buffet experience more here, as it was very unique, but I don't know if they still do it or when they do. Maybe only on weekends? for which I do think you need a reservation.

All in all a nice place I'm glad to have in Nagoya, although I don't view as anything super special.

Pros: Warm Atmosphere, Solid Value

Cons: Side dishes, better ventilation

Small restaurant with fresh tasty meals on a quiet street

Located on ground floor now. Easy to find. We ordered the weekly special which was a Buddha bowl served with wholesome miso and love. Also got the gluten free cookies - everything was fresh, tasty and modestly priced

So cozy!

The place is really cozy, thanks to a traditonal tatami room and to an informal atmosphere. The food is really good, I would recommend the karage and the Apple tarte tatin!

Best vegan food in Nagoya!

I was the only one present due to heavy, heavy rain, but they made me feel welcome nonetheless. The "eel" was absolutely amazing. I got the cake for dessert and the zangi "chicken" for takeout. Both were also amazing. I talked to the owner Miho and her staff about living in Sapporo and travelling to Nagoya. Very pleasant people!

Everything was amazing

I ate the vegan kabayaki-don, soy-kara and the Japanese style parfait which were all nice and tasty! I love the okara konnyaku the most in all the plant based meats.

Delicious Japanese-style food.

A walking distance from Nagoya Station and Noritake Garden, this tiny restaurant is a great find! It seems you need a reservation for dinner, but there is no problem with lunch walk-ins.

Pros: Entirely vegan, Reasonable prices, Easily accessible from Nagoya Station

Vegan buffet on a budget

Advanced reservation for vegan buffet is required.
I went to this cafe with my non-vegan friend, it was a great example to show her delicious vegan food!
