Me and my partner were excited to eat here as truly vegan places are few and far between in Thailand, the food looked yummy, and the reviews on Happy Cow were good.

Both me and my partner unfortunately contracted food poisoning here. Upon telling a few people and some locals it was revealed to us that this is not uncommon, apparently quite a few people have contracted food poisoning there. We ate from the buffet, which I wouldn’t recommend, and was probably a bad idea from the start. It was quite bland and obviously the dishes had been sitting out for quite some time (were quite cold as well). Hence the food poisoning! I also witnessed a small child touch pretty well all of the cut watermelon with her hands at the buffet table before picking one slice (directly in front of myself, the owner, and the staff at the buffet table) and the staff nor owner did not remove the pieces that had been touched, which put me off a bit. I understand that this is Thailand and the food safety standards are not as high, but still... this is unacceptable.

We chose the buffet because the cooked meals were about the same amount of money, and we were just downright hungry at that point from a big day of adventuring and not much food other than fruit during the day. Maybe the cooked dishes would be better? Although we won’t be back to find out.

The owner of the restaurant barely acknowledged me or looked up when I went to pay, just took the 600baht from us and didn’t say anything. Maybe he was busy doing something, but once again, not good service/not acceptable.

My boyfriend messaged the owner of the restaurant and told him about our experience, and he just snapped back VERY rudely, said we got it somewhere else, and that he guessed he could check if anyone else got sick??

We won’t be back to Govindas again. Would give 1 star if I could.
