Cheap lunch, good food - Edit
For $3.5, I had a quinoa and potato soup, a big plate of rice, polenta, salad, seitan, and deep-fried vegetable ball, some poached strawberries for dessert, and a pineapple drink. It's a pretty good deal and it was all vegan. The food isn't mind-blowing but certainly tasty enough. The service is friendly and the courtyard is a lovely place to eat in.

Delicious find in Quito - Edit
We were looking for The Fountain of Youth (another vegan restaurant😉) that has closed down when we found this gem! For $3, we had a big bowl of vegetable soup plus a heaping plate full of interesting and delicious vegetables. Plus we had pineapple juice, chamomile tea, and a cookie. We dined in a bright courtyard, surrounded by plants and interesting people. Everyone in our group, vegan and non-vegan, were delighted.

Govindas is my go to in any city. You can count on them for tasty vegan food at really affordable prices. This restaurant's meal of the day was broccoli soup with dal, rice, salad, a fried vegetable and two different juices - all for only $3.

Simple and affordable food - Edit
We had the menu of the day which consisted in a soup, a portion of popcorn (for the soup, very yummy), a bowl of salad/raw veggies and delicious sauces (guacamole), a main and a drink, everything was vegan. There's also food to order take away - mostly vegetarian bit there also a few vegan desserts.

Lovely! - Edit
When I walked into this restaurant I almost cried. Quito is a loud, busy, bustling city and walking into Govindas is like walking into an oasis of peace. My husband and I are visiting Ecuador from the States and I wanted a break from the largely carne-filled ecuadorian diet and this was just the thing. You enter through a smallish portico and cross the dining area to a back room with the menu choices of the day placed on plates on a table so you can see what they have, with the price written next to it. You choose your drink from the fridge, pay and then seat yourself to wait for your hot food to arrive. Very pleasant and delicious!

Hare Hare - Edit
Honestly, I have been to several Hare Krishna restaurant so far and never have I been disappointed. It's always such a nice atmosphere there, the food is always good and filling and rather inexpensive. Govindas in Quito is no exception, yet they have even a amazing venue on top of that.
Read moreSo there is a large table with plenty of plates and bowls you can take food from. On a smaller table you find the salad bar with sauces and oils and dressings.
Sadly there are no signs indicating what kind of food (what it's called, what ingredients) there is. However, the staff will gladly advise you upon request and point out all vegan options. Once you have filled your plate it will be warmed over at the cashier's desk. They usually provide great gluten options; I was particularly amazed by their corn pancake.
Food was taste- and flavourful, however, don't expect a gourmet experience, since all the dishes are prepared at midday or something to be rehashed later. Everything can be eaten cold as well though, just a matter of preference.
You'll sit in an inner court of this Hare Krishna place, while in the rooms above you yoga classes and stuff are being held.
I was there three times, always left satisfied. Price was fair.
They sell some health stuff as well.

Great Atmosphere - Edit
I stopped in here and was looking for something small to eat for breakfast. They have a room behind the tables with an assortment of items made and ready to eat. With my limited Spanish the woman pointed out to me what items were vegan. I ate a delicious apple turnover and some strawberry juice. I also grabbed some nuts, seeds, and granola they had in small bags hanging on the wall for purchase. They offer yoga and meditation classes as well so inquire if you're interested.

When I travel I find that Govindas is a safe option to go with. Its always a friendly atmosphere with nice and cheap food, and this Govindas in Quito is no exception!
Read moreI tried the set lunch menu for $3 twice. It's a lot of food! Two people could share it if you're not extremely hungry. Fist time the food was delicious but second time it was completely flavourless unfortunately.
They also have a shop with other items if you're not so hungry. My friend had the veggie burger for $1.5 and it was good.
Pros: Cheap!, A lot of food, Friendly atmosphere
Cons: Lunch can be flavourless

Good Meal Stop in Old Town - Edit
You get a plate full of rice plus 3 or 4 other items including a soup and a dessert and a warm beverage in a steel glass just like it is served back home in India. All for $1.80. This is a no fuss, simple place typical of most Govindas around the world. This is one of the better ones.
