Passable Indian Food - Edit
I've tasted Govindas in many countries on many continents, and this was sadly the least impressive of all. Weekend all you can eat serve yourself Thali costs 22,000 shillings in 2024. The price is very good. The flavours sadly were not. None of the dishes were appealing, though the rotis were fresh and tasty.

Had the small thali. Really wanted one of the puri appetizers but they were completely out.

Pure Veg in Kampala - Edit
I came here once and had food. It was nice but not extraordinary. Not many pure vegetarian food places around though, so I’m glad it’s here.

Not impressed - Edit
Maybe we got here on the wrong day, but the staff was very moody. We didn't see one smile and they couldn't even bother to lift their feet when walking. We ordered 2 Masala dosa and a portion of Masala chips. It took 40 minutes to prepare our dosa's, although there was only one more table in the restaurant. The dosa's were tiny and they didn't have the sambar. Only after we kept insisting they should replace it, we finally got them to serve us dhal instead. The dosa was good enough. The Masala chips was sloppy and under cooked.

Reliably veg - Edit
Govindas is great if you are looking for a veg only spot in Kampala. But the food is a bit pricey and not that good. I prefer the chaat at Masala Chaat House next door.

Fine place. - Edit
I went there only once so cannot write an extremely objective review.
Read moreI tried the mini thali as it is vegan (many other dishes aren't and most desserts and sweets aren't neither, on the left side of the counter they contain milk, on the right side, some might be vegan, you have to ask which ones contain honey - they contain no milk).
The portion was big enough for me : stir fried chillies, clear dahl, bean, peas, lentil dahl-like, chiapati, rice, cucumbers, stir friend vegetables (I think including potatoes). The meal was good, nothing exceptional but not bad at all.
The place isn't the cleanest ever but it's fine.
You can wash your hands, there's a small barrel with water and soap close to one of the counters.
They also serve jain samosa, possibly vegan, you should ask.
I took a lemon tea and as it is Uganda, it was black tea plus ginger with lemon.

I was happy for the good price and large portions of the lunch buffet. I ate as much as I could and found the quality to be good.

Big menu - Edit
Quite an extensive menu, of veggie Indian food.
Read moreWe ordered dosa, which was a bit sad and soggy, especially in contrast to the really good dosa in the nearby food courty at Garden City mall.
The rather grey looking buffet didn't look too appetising.
The restaurant is quite nice looking, spacious, fairly busy at lunchtime.
(There is also a great juice shop just up the street, which is a plus reason to come to this spot).
Pros: Big menu
Cons: Lower quality
