Perfect for a casual meal - Edit
Delicious homemade food and an incredibly welcoming owner and staff. Everything is made in house and prepared fresh. If you are tired of small businesses that mimic sterile corporate models then this place will be a giant breath of fresh air for you.

Overpriced sub par food with unclean bathrooms. - Edit
My experience was very disappointing. In fact, I'd have to say this was one of the worst vegan places I’ve been to. It’s almost laughable that they have such terrible food and they have the audacity to stay open as a restaurant. It’s concerning for the amount of money they are charging for sub-par dishes.
Read moreWe ordered their "special" called shitake mushroom dumplings. If I were to describe the presentation, it was something like an 8-year-old had put together: there were 6 soggy dumplings decorated in a circle, with a pile of canned mandarins right in the center of the circle, and large slices of raw almonds carelessly sprinkled all over the dish. Oh, and the dumplings and the canned mandarin slices were marinating in a thick pool of ordinary soy sauce. It still blows my mind that we paid $15 for that terrible-looking and tasting food/dish. Sigh!
The menu said "moist" carrot cake. Well, that and red velvet cake was dry like a plain slice of bread. They don’t even cover the cakes and let them sit open in the display fridge, which tends to dry them out. I brought this to the owner's attention. She brushed me off saying, "You know it's vegan, soooooo." Dare I bring her attention again to what says on their menu about the cakes? I didn't bother.
Staff and owner(s) are unprofessional and need some lessons in customer service. This "restaurant" is located in a shady neighborhood as well, so if I were you I'd avoid this place at all costs and spend your hard-earned money somewhere else. I will not encourage anybody to eat here.

A romantic hole in the wall with moody lighting and a great vibe. We went on a Saturday and they had LIVE music. The owner was amazingly sweet and the proceeds go to an organization to feed the homeless.

The hours say they open at noon on Sunday. I took an Uber to check out this place and at 12:10 pm there was not a soul around. Sadly, I cannot comment on the food because I had to go elsewhere.

horribly rude staff! - Edit
if it was for the cake, i'd rate this place 4 stars.
Read morei had a german chocolate cake. no idea why german, as the cake had coconut in it, but anyhow. very moist dough, nice different parts - my favourite was the coffee-flavoured cream on top.
the cake was huge! i'd rather see it smaller and a little cheaper (7 dollars is A LOT!)
here's what i'm not so happy about: a "hello" from the girl at the counter only after staring at the cakes for a while. no interest in telling me about the cakes (one didn't have a sign, after asking about it, "caramel" was the answer. after i chose, she didn't ask if i wanted to eat in or take away. she put my cake in a plastic container - i'm not a fan of being the cause of any more rubbish...
the customers after me were treated insanely nicely. and the girl who was in before me got asked if everything was ok. me? no more word. not even when i exited the shop with her being outside and me saying "bye".
seriously, even if it was the best cake i've ever had (which it wasn't) this place would never see me again.
Pros: choice in cake & size
Cons: horrible horrible staff, rather expensive

Questionable staff - Edit
Used to love this restaurant and the food but then they hired a man known to have sexually abused/raped multiple women so I no longer support their business. They also let him book shows at this place and I can't support a business that supports people like that.

not impressed - Edit
Tried giving this place 1 star but the minimum you can give a vegan restaurant on here is 2 stars (horrible programming Happy Cow). I had heard great things about this place and was eager to try it. The inside is lackluster and undecorated. There were bullet holes in the front door. The menu is mostly soy items and they are not organic. The food itself was okay, but nothing extravagant. I probably won't eat there again.

Cons: interior is not extremely welcoming, more pragmati, mostly soy options on menu, don't use organic produce

Dear Customer.
Read moreI am sorry that our decor was lacking. We are a small business in a very "interesting" area. We are in the process of redoing the floors, walls & art. We did have art and such up, but they kept getting damaged. As we are a small business we do have have excess $ to keep replacing damaged art. We are also working on our menu (more soy free ) and would rather put the money to items you all will enjoy. As for organic, actually half of our items are, the rest are GMO free.
We hope you come back

Unsanitary, Food Sub Par - Edit
The place was not clean. Trash was almost overflowing from the garbage can.
Read moreThere was a young boy running around in the kitchen and in the dining area. Before we left we heard the staff tell the boy to stop participating in an activity as it would make him more sick. We also saw him coughing. Again he was running around through the kitchen and the dining area.
When we ordered Malai Kofta, the staff corrected our pronunciation. The staff corrected us by saying Kafta which is an incorrect pronunciation. This gave us a first impression of the staff being both rude and ignorant.
The staff acted as if it was too much effort to take our order. At this restaurant the customer throws away their trash. The only thing the staff was doing was taking orders and wiping off the tables.
While we were waiting for our food we found ourselves wanting to leave as the atmosphere was lacking. There was no music, only fans to cool and the entire place seemed unclean.
We ordered the Ham sandwich and the Kofta. They were both sub par. We could have easily bought vegan ham and bread at the grocery store for a better meal. We have made kofta at home before. Their Kofta was not authentic and lacked flavor.
Pros: Not too pricey
Cons: Unsanitary, Staff was unfriendly, Food was subpar

The staff was not being rude by repeating the order, or accidentally saying "kofta" incorrectly, they repeat as to make sure they have your order correct, and as their first language is English "ethnic" words maybe pronounced incorrectly.

Great Experience - Edit
My hubby-to-be and I recently visited Govinda's. We absolutely loved our dining experience here. I had the meatball sub with regular fries and my fiancé had the black bean burger with Brazilian fries. A meat-eater would not be able to tell that those meatballs were not actually meat. The sauce along with the cheese added additional flavor to the sub. I personally like a little heat to my food so I added some hot sauce to the sub. My fiancé liked the flavor and size of the black bean burger. For dessert, we had the red velvet cake and the blueberry cobbler. I wasn't a fan of the red velvet cake. It was just okay to me and lacked the flavor of the type of red velvet cakes that I am accustomed to eating. However, I LOVED the blueberry cobbler. It wasn't too sweet, filled with lots of crust (my favorite part of cobbler), and it was packed with tons of blueberries. One of the things that made our experience great was the service. The owner was so nice and knowledgeable of vegan and vegetarian foods. She was nice and friendly and great to have a conversation with. Many restaurants fail to realize the importance of customer service. I could eat at a place that has amazing food, but would never go back if the service was horrible and I didn't feel valued as a customer. Fortunately, we experienced the exact opposite at Govinda's and that, along with the amazingly good food is why we will definitely be back!

Food lacked flavor & pricey - Edit
The restaurant is cafe style not much ambiance - kind of like a take-out place. We really like the fact that they offer is vegan/vegetarian and they carry organic and non-gmo ingredients. But the food lacked flavor. We ordered the tilly sub, the four layer burrito and the tsunami wrap - all three were very dry with very little sauce and flavoring. The veda fries were good, the monk soup was good and the spinach salad had potential but they gave you so little dressing that it wasn't enough to flavor the salad. So I guess they skimped on dressings. The cake was good. The service was a bit slow but I guess they're just starting out and looked like they were short staffed. All in All I would definitely go back if I'm in that area and would give them another chance since they have just opened and I liked their menu selection. Plus the service was very good. Pretty expensive prices for take out style restaurant but the portions were large.

Awesome Vegan Food and Desserts!! - Edit
I went here twice when visiting Atlanta and I really think they have great food. I tried the Gari Wrap one trip and the 4 Layer Burrito the next. I much preferred the Gari Wrap because it had more flavor, but the 4 Layer Burrito was still great. I also tried the Sloppy Go that my mother was having and I will definitely be getting that next time because it was delicious. For dessert, I tried their Vegan Red Velvet, Chocolate and a Strawberry filling cake. The cake with the Strawberry filling was my favorite and it tasted much like a spice cake. The chocolate cake was amazing as well as the red velvet!! The service was not great my first time there as my friend ordered fries, but never got them. They completely forgot about the order until she asked about it when we were leaving an hour later. They quickly offered to remedy the situation by offering us a whole batch of fries or a slice of cake. We took the slice of cake and left happily.

Great food, super friendly and vegan safe - Edit
Let me start by saying the cashier’s friendly greeting when we walked in the door set the tone for the whole experience. Maybe we were nervous given unfriendly experiences with help at other vegan restaurants, but the pleasant greeting, smile and since she was ringing someone’s order up saying “I’ll be right with you” really made us feel welcome. In fact I had called the night before to ensure they would be open the next day and the lady who answered the phone was friendly, polite, cheerful and helpful.
Read moreWe purposely chose a trip to Atlanta on Monday to try their vegan buffet and were certainly glad we did. The meatless balls had a wonderful texture, I wish I could get mine to stay together so well, and the sauce they were in, I put it on my veggies I loved it so much. The broccoli with sweet potato bites is a combo I never would have thought of and was just delightful. There was both white and brown rice for the meatless balls and sauce. The mac and cheese was good and the lentil soup had just a kick to it, very good as well. One of us ordered the Smokie Sub sandwich. Nice size and was delighted to have black olives on it, too. I saw someone order a burger, it looked very large as well. So between the buffet and the sandwiches, we felt the portions were nice sized and the prices were in line for the area and certainly a ‘bargain’ among vegan restaurants.
Not fancy but it fits in with the hippy, eclectic neighborhood and has a fun atmosphere to it. The owner was so kind and ensured we were enjoying our meal. Adults and teens were all pleased by the dishes. Can’t wait to go back.
Pros: Good food, friendly, Nice portion size for the money
Cons: restaurant could be a little cleaner
