Nice vegan options, unusual operating hours, LONG WAIT TIMES - Edit
Edit: the wait time even when ordering from the weekly hookup where they have your order days in advance is unbelievable. We called 20 minutes before coming to pickup the food on the designated day as the instructions specified and were told 45 minutes then he said no 30 minutes. We gave them 45 minutes before we arrived and then ended up waiting another 45 minutes for the food. Mind you, the weekly hookup food is supposed to be frozen or heat up at home food. Not hot and ready to eat food. It did not come with instructions and the tacos and pizza that were supposed to be frozen were only sort of frozen. The lasagna that was supposed to be a take and bake was hot. The hot lasagna was under some of the "frozen" food in the bag which after a 20 minute drive home we discovered a hot lasagna. Overall we were disappointed with the quality of the weekly hookup food and the execution. Not trying to drag these people, they seem nice and their regular menu food is good but they just don't move fast.
Read moreThe pizza was delicious! We added mushrooms, green olives and fried tofu to the coconut milk cheese pizza. Loved it!
The vegan tacos were tasty and the vegan mushroom cheese steak had really good flavor but could have used a little more cheese.
We also got a small order of the cinnamon sugar donuts and were surprised by the gingery flavor. If you aren't a fan of ginger then these might not be for you!
A VHS of Who Framed Roger Rabbit was playing when we went to pick up our carry out. We were offered kool aid and popcorn while we waited for our order.
Gooseberries sometimes has farm to table dinners that you can reserve a spot at in advance and they can work with most dietary restrictions.
Cool place, nice vibes

Fantastic Late Night Spot - Edit
great atmosphere with popcorn appetizer. They underwent major schedule changes so check the website as their hours are not accurate on here. I love the tofu pickle pizza, vegan slinger is aiight, order the smoked tofu w an extra piece of bread. Vegan donuts are. banger, Long wait times but it’s a hole in the wall open in the middle of the night on the weekends, be patient.

Great comfort food - Edit
Gooseberries is a fun little restaurant. The owners are a married couple, one vegetarian and one omni, and their separate menus reflect that. There’s a lot of fried tofu on the menu - it’s definitely not a health food destination, but a comfort food kinda place. Their banana pancakes with peanut butter are delicious, as is their KFT salad. Their cold brew ginger coffee is amazing -they have almond and soy milk. Let them know you’re vegan when ordering and they’ll also point out anything vegan they have that’s off menu - today was a great pineapple gazpacho.

Cons: Service can be slow when crowded (tiny kitchen!)

Gooseberries - Edit
I have been 3 times and I personally haven’t had any problems with wait times. I’ve ordered the vegan nachos, vegan chili, and the vegan doughnuts. All of which were very satisfying and I would definitely recommend!

Their hours are inconsistent - Edit
I went to check this place out with my mom during a time they were scheduled to be open. The door was locked but the front door clearly said they were supposed to be open. I won’t go again because that was a huge waste of time.

Would not recommend - Edit
I had been waiting to check this place out since they offered vegan and non vegan food. Boy I was thoroughly disappointed. We waited no joke 1 hour and 20 minutes for brunch (mind you it wasn't crazy busy). I ordered vegan banana pancakes, donuts, and crispy tofu. Great concept but seriously lacking in service. I worked in the restaurant industry for years and understand the behind the scenes. At least acknowledge to customers the typical wait for food and expectations that is general courtesy. I wouldn't recommend to anyone. Save your time and go to Rooster or Treehouse.

Lots of vegan options, long wait times - Edit
I really enjoyed having a menu with so many vegan options. It was really hard to choose! I ended up having the tofu "fish" sticks, coleslaw, and fruit salad. The portions are small, more "snack" sized, so I'd suggest ordering more food than less.
Read moreThe real downside to this place is the wait times. It's a small restaurant, and you order at a counter, but it still took over 40 minutes for us to get our food, and they weren't that busy. The coffee wasn't always ready to go, either, and when they brought it out, there wasn't that much.
I'd be willing to go back again because the vegan options are unlike most other places in St. Louis. But be prepared to wait.
Pros: Lots of vegan options, Relaxed vibe
Cons: Long wait times for food
