Five Star Mushroom Pho - Edit
Super simple menu - a few items done very well. The rice paper rolls are vegan as well as the mushroom pho. The pho was so beautiful. Four mushrooms braised and grilled with rice noodles and fresh Vietnamese mint and sprouts. The space is cozy and sophisticated. The bar seating is awesome - watch your food being made. Highly recommend. 5 stars but HC will only let me put 4 since the place is not strictly vego.

I had the noodle salad with tofu and mushroom skewers and it was deeelicious! Although there's only three vegan variations, a small menu means fresh ingredients and high quality food. I also liked that the restaurant only uses ethical sources of meat for its non-vegan options.

I mean, yeah, technically half of the menu *is* vegan but there are only 5 items on the menu. So you can have tofu rice paper rolls, a vegan pho, or a vermicelli noodle salad. All of which you can get at lots of Vietnamese restaurants.
Read moreI tried the pho one weekday lunch time. The broth was quite rich and flavourful and the colour was deep too. I seem to remember that the mushrooms came on the side and you add them as you eat, which meant they kept a nice crispy/ charred texture, instead of going soggy and slimy in the soup. Sprouts, lemon, fresh herbs and all your condiments are of course served on the side, as usual.
The interior is nice but I didn't find the atmosphere overly warm. I enjoyed my soup but I'm not sure if I'd bother going back. I don't really understand why people seem to love it, to be honest. When the menu is so limited, I expect the interpretations of the dishes to pretty exceptional and these were not. I think there are more delicious and different options on Sydney Rd.

If you like mushroom pho you should definitely come here. They only have 5 things on the menu so if you don't like pho then this isn't the place for you

Such a beautiful little spot on Sydney road, the fit out is really clean and simple and the staff are friendly.
Read moreHalf the menu is vegan. There is a mushroom pho, mushroom and tofu vermicelli salad and vegan rice paper rolls. The pho is incredibly flavoursome and filled with different varieties of mushrooms.
The pho was $15 from memory. They are yet to get a liquor license.
Pros: pho is phenomenal , half the menu is vegan, great vibe
Cons: slightly pricey, small menu, no liquor license yet
