It's a base-vegan restaurant plus nonvegan options. The first place where there is more than one thing that I can eat because I have food allergies. And all the food there is very good. Everyone (nonvegan) I bring there likes it.
Read moreI brought my non-vegan friend ... She claimed that she had eaten there before and didn't like it, but she was very, very impressed.
Sometimes, the food is a bit slow to come out, i suppose, but i'm sure that's because they're taking the time to make it perfect.
Pros: The base meals are vegan , The food is excellent , There are plenty of non-allergen non-wheat options

We loved the extensive vegan options - most everything has a vegan base with a choice of protein. But the interesting cocktails, friendly staff, and eclectic decor helped to make it one of the best dining experiences we have had in awhile.

Solid vegetarian options for the whole menu with additional vegetarian proteins optional. Primarily a vegetarian place that should be allowed to get 5 stars. Tried the Southern bowl & Cuban Bowl - both had really tasty individual elements that worked great together. Delicious.

We go every time we visit Black Mountain. It's so good. Eat in or carry out. Vegan options are clearly labeled and substitutions are easy. Staff is very vegan friendly. Great atmosphere/location in this adorable town. This is easily one of my favorite restaurants ever.

Quality vegan options at a good value - Edit
Goldfinch is a hip and cozy spot with a number of solid vegan options. The dishes we had were clearly prepared with care and were - in my opinion - a great value for the quality of the food. I had an order of tacos, one with marinated tofu and one with their house made vegan chorizo, both of which were very tasty. My partner had their Cuban bowl and loved it, the greens in particular were well prepared and delicious.

I got the cuban bowl and my friend got the red curry bowl. Both were really good & we got a free appetizer of spicy toasted almonds. I wish I took a picture but the bowl was beautifully presented and I left comfortably full & finished everything. Our server was really nice and the ambiance of the outside deck is worth the experience. The menu is pretty small which I actually really liked. I'm so indecisive so when I have an overloaded menu, it overwhelms me. All of the dishes were super different so I felt like the variety was there without the overwhelm of 25 different dishes to pick from.
Read moreIf i could offer any constructive criticism it would be to maybe season the food a bit more- a little more salt and herbs. The miso tofu my friend got was actually not good at all. The sauce was soo salty we couldn't eat it & the tofu was tiny little squares fried to the point they would crumble if you squished them between your fingers.
But overall really good & I felt nourished afterwards. I could immediately tell they use high quality ingredients. Which I deeply appreciate and value. Thank you!

The food was delicious, including drinks, appetizers, entrees and desserts. They will make any dish vegan for you. The atmosphere was very cozy. The service was wonderful - Amber, Jackie and Vickie all did a superb job! This is easily the best vegan restaurant in Black Mountain, and probably Asheville. We're definitely going back. Staff were very knowledgeable about vegan options. They were willing to tweak their speciality cocktails to make vegan. I got the Bahn Mi bowl with the tofu and it was light, but satisfying. Tasted super fresh. The restaurant is cute and cozy. They did check for vaccine cards and wore a mask when taking orders/delivering food- we felt very safe dining in. Would definitely go again!

Read moreI was surprised to see only 4 star reviews but now realize, unless we are exclusively vegan or vegetarian, we are not able to receive anything above a 4 star review.
I am happy to know that everyone that has left a review seemed happy and would maybe have been a 5 star experience... that’s our goal!
Black Mountain is a considerably small township outside of Asheville. What we are doing here is semi taboo for this area and we have so many wonderful vegan options. Everything on our menu is vegan based with the option of 3 meat proteins and 4 vegan proteins.
As much as we would LOVE to only serve vegan and vegetarian cuisine, the sad fact is we would go under as a business and have seen it happen to other restaurants in this town time and time again. This is a slow, yet growing evolution. We WILL get there. One day.
Our mission is to get people in the door and from there, hope to introduce patrons to a new item that maybe they would never have tried before. Something vegan. Something that wows them! I don’t think that’s worthy of 4 stars.
Thats 5 stars in my book.
I’m originally from Dallas, TX. Meat tends to be included in all 3 meals. I’ve now been vegan for almost a decade (as long as I’ve lived in Asheville) and I love being able to share my story on how I have come to this humane diet.
It takes time to create a fully vegan/vegetarian culture. We are doing just that.

We ordered takeout in the time of Covid, I would love to come back and eat on their adorable patio. The food was amazing and they went out of their way to ensure everything was vegan and noted as such. Several vegan protein options. The Cuban bowl was amazing, hope to try the Bahn Mi bowl next
