Serves meat, vegan options available. Hotel restaurant offering vegan white bean ragout with grilled leak. Can prepare 3-course vegan menu if requested at reservation. Open Mon-Sun 12:00-21:00.
We found the Gersberg Alm on the internet before we booked our holidays in Austria. On the menu, I saw a lot of vegetarian options and also a 5 course vegetarian set meal , but I was not sure which of the dishes were vegan, so I contacted them to ask before we made a reservation. They replied we could take the "white bean ragout with leek". I thought that's good enough, so we already know what we get, and so we reserved a table (which was not that easy because many days were already booked out well in advance). When the evening arrived, we thought we already know what to get, so we were very surprised that the cook came to our table in order to discuss the vegan set meal with us! They had put a LOT of thought into offering us a very unusual set meal (instead of only the one dish we were expecting), and when the chef enumerated all the options, I was so baffled that I had forgotten all of them immediately. So he repeated, we took one starter, one main course and one dessert each and we received the most unusual, tasty dinner ever. We could not get over how much thought they put into this, because we didn't want to make a fuss and thought we'd only get that one vegan dish. So if you are vegan and are into a really unusual vegan meal, it pays off to ask beforehand, and you might get a meal as amazing as we did. All the courses tasted very unusual. They offered asparagus, turnip cabbage, beetrot risotto, as as dessert we had a coconut pudding with chia seeds and cherries (me) and a strudel with something like mousse au chocolat (my partner). Of course this meal came at a price, but it was worth every penny.
