Amazing view - Edit
Several vegan options on the menu. Our server helped us with what could be made vegan. Food was delicious and the view was outstanding.

Beautiful view. But that’s about it! - Edit
There are no vegan options except for chips and salsa. They are very inflexible with any modifications to vegetarian items.

Great views but bland food - Edit
I ordered the veggie bowl and made it vegan. It was very bland, just sautéed veggies and warm beans

Top-tier vegan options at California Modern (fewer but some vegan options at Ocean Terrace) - Edit
George's at the Cove is a bit confusing because it is two very different restaurants: CALIFORNIA MODERN, where chef Trey Foshee is in charge of what I think of as San Diego's best and most creative kitchen -- my restaurant of choice for my birthday celebration each year -- and OCEAN TERRACE, an open-air restaurant with stellar ocean views and casual food (not from Trey). CALIFORNIA MODERN is fine dining at its best, and always has a good selection of vegan and vegetarian options (if the item is marked "Vegetarian/Ask Vegan," there is a vegan version of the dish available without the diner needing to ask for modifications). The California Modern menu changes regularly, since it features the best of what is available right now from sources such as the Chino Farm. When I was there last week, the vegan options included a Chino tomato/strawberry salad with pine nut butter, toasted pine nuts, and both red and pickled green strawberries (plus burrata for the vegetarian version), a Chino Farms heirloom bean salad, a roasted cauliflower entree with heirloom grains, green curry, marcona almond, pickled raisin and Chino Farms collard greens, and a roasted Chino Farms vegetable entree with carrot-pepper purée and a benne seed vegetable demi-glace. Everything was stunningly delicious. The specialty cocktails and desserts are excellent. In short, if you can afford this restaurant, you'll have one of the best dining experiences available in San Diego, whether you are vegan or vegetarian, and your omnivore friends will also have a superb experience.
Read moreThe Ocean Terrace has fewer vegan options, but there are at least a couple (a hummus plate, Beyond Burger). This is the place I like to take visitors for lunch, since the food is varied and good, the views are amazing, and it is a terrific stop before or after spending time on the La Jolla Coast walk to enjoy the sea lions, pelicans, and tide pools. And as a casual restaurant, it is moderately-priced.

Pros: #1 fine dining restaurant for vegans, Would rate as 5-stars if Happy Cow allowed

Fantastic experience at the Oceanview Terrace - Edit
Had a hummus platter and an impossible burger lettuce wrap that were both excellent. This place didn't overcook the impossible patty like most places do, so major points for that

Nothing Vegan - Edit
Made a reservation based on a Happy Cow recommendation. Nothing vegetarian, certainly nothing vegan. Froie gras is on the menu.

See my review for the many vegan dishes I enjoyed at this restaurant (California Modern) in Aug. 2019, and see Swrobel's review for vegan options at Ocean Terrace.
