Beautifully presented food!

The food was delicious! The dessert, ahhh! So good! (Apple crumble & ice-cream) Everything was great - service, vibe & food. Would definitely recommend!

Great Service & Delicious Food

The Redefine Meat shank burger was the best in class that I've had for that kind of a meal, absolutely excellent, would heartily recommend the cherry cheesecake too, delicious!

Edgy and cool with the best shakes!

We went for their famous milkshakes.. we both had the chocolate hazelnut which was UNREAL and worth the trip for that alone (drunk so quickly..forgot to take photo!). Pizza was delicious and very flavoursome. Redefine Meat marinated in coffee with salad was interesting but I liked it! They were able to make it gluten-free for me. We both chose mac n cheese, one gluten-free and one regular. It was more like some pasta with mild cheesy sauce.. not much flavour and this dish could be vastly improved.
They brought out a salted caramel brownie for my friend's birthday which made his day! New location is awesome and the decor is very cool. Staff were lovely. Overall a great experience. Thankyou all.

Genesis is back!

East London favourite Genesis has moved up to North London. The front is a small cafe/bar area overlooking Broomfield park. At the back there is a large dining room with a funky warehouse vibe. Menu is still world fusion (curries, pizza, burgers, stews, bowls). They also serve cocktails, smoothies, juices and mylkshakes. A must visit if you're in North London.

Pros: branding, price, vibe

Compact plant based cafe with a quirky vibe

Very compact cafe, seating for around 10 people only (EDIT Jan 2023: They have now opened up a new dining area around the back, with a lot more seating). Place has a very quirky vibe. Good service. They seem to want to market themselves towards the health/organic food crowd, which is a bit confusing because the menu has burgers/pizza/chips/milkshakes etc. Considering how small the place is, the range of options are good - can get curries, buddha bowls, burgers. They also have an interesting selection of smoothies, 'milk'shakes, cocktails, and mocktails.

We ordered a genesis jerk burger with fries. We were pleased that the burger had some spice to it. It was very enjoyable. The plain fries we ordered were cooked to perfection, loved the thickness and crispiness of them. All the burger options were the fake meat type, so would be nice if they had a bean burger/falafel type option for those who aren't keen on 'meat' products.

We also had a Ackee rasta pasta buddha bowl. Which was very tasty and wholesome. Felt fresh and had good flavour. Particularly enjoyed the pieces of plantain on top.

Lots of potential but underwhelming

Really lovely staff and atmosphere, food was sadly underwhelming, would have loved them to make vegetables rather than meat replacements the main focus here. Lots of the sauces seemed unnecessarily sweet.

Pros: Nice atmosphere, Great cocktails , Varied menu

Cons: Too much focus on meat replacement , Too sweet sauces, Not many vegetables in the budda bowl

Have taken your notes on board and we are already in talks of a veggie burger (+ more) and the veg/salad mix for the buddha bowls has already been upgraded since this week. Thanks Angela.

Incredible food, vibes and service

Me and my partner absolutely loved our visit to genesis. The vibes was great with good tunes on and lovely decor.

Our food was unbelievable, the chef clearly puts a lot of love into the food. We left felling really full and we’d not even finished half of our food! good portion sizes and very good quality food/ingredients. It was really delicious. The plantain sauce was amazing, very unique!
Would 100% recommend getting the butter bean and plantain curry with callaloo is was unbelievable.

We also got the cocktails all of which were amazing, the bar tender took his time and has some incredible mixologist skills (I’ll be dreaming about the boozy pina colada forever more)

100% would recommend, so many incredible options. We will definitely be back again.

Pros: The vibe/decor, Service was amazing, food was exquisite

Very good small restaurant

We visited this restaurant because we were in the area, it's quite small with just a few tables but it has a nice atmosphere. We were the only customers for lunch but a few people ordered drinks to take away.
The menu has something for everyone, from curry to pasta and lost of burger options.
We had two starters, the kimchi fritters (lovely but the cheese sauce was a bit too salty) and the fried mushrooms (oyster mushrooms with a nice mix of spices on a bed of salad).
We then had a pulled tofu BBQ burger which was great and just as messy to eat as it should be.
The other main dish was rasta pasta, which was a cold pasta salad with a ton of different veggies and plenty of flavour.
They also have desserts but we were too full, although we got a soft serve ice cream, not my personal favourite because I didn't enjoy the strong almond flavour, but the husband adored it.
Service was very good but there's no toilet, I would have wanted to wash my hands after the burger!

Far from the inner of London but...

The restaurant is a bit far from London but they definitely do have the best burgers in town ! Not too expensive, it's really worth the trip there ! Especially if you spend a day in Shoreditch,
Could be busy so don't forget to reserve !
I took the Korean Street Sandwich menu with homemade fries.

Hit or miss

Pretty pricey food that was a bit hit or miss for me. The hoisin duck tacos were amazing, the mac and cheese was decent but the aubergine fritters were bland.

Take non vegans here...!

I would take someone here if I was trying to convert them to veganism because the dishes are relatable as a carnivore. They are also super tasty and about right in terms of price.
I LOVED the desserts here and would go back just for the sundae.
I love the decor and the lights, reminds me of a place in Amsterdam called 'VEGAN JUNK FOOD'.
It's also bigger than it looks as you walk past as it has a downstairs floor too!
Def a cool place!!

insanely delicious!

loved my Patacones bowl! it was very filling and had amazing choices of healthy bits mixed with a few junky parts. the fried plantain and seitan chicken were incredible! cashew cheese is worth mentioning as well!

the peanut butter milkshake was tasty but HUGE - i’d prefer half the size for half the price (or have a choice of two sizes) - and therefore also a little boring after a while.

service was lovely!
the place is busy and can be quite noisy, especially due to the music.

Pros: many different food options, healthy options, service

Cons: rather expensive, loud place

Expensive junky

Quite expensive for this food quality. Caesar salad with Seitan chicken is like salad and so crunchy seitan so feels like a bread. Tiramisu.. probably the worst in my life. With rough heavy bread layers, instead of soft biscuits. For 7 pounds it’s hard man.

Pros: Vegan

Cons: Expensive , Junkie/unhealthy , Bad tiramisu.

Nice food

I’ve eaten here a few times. The food is good & lots of different options that you can’t get other places. It’s not cheap but it is worth it. The thing I always find with this place is that the majority of staff are not that friendly, don’t make you feel welcome and the atmosphere is overall a bit pretentious. Overall I prefer to eat somewhere a bit more welcoming

Delicious

We went here whilst visiting my brother and it happened to be my mums birthday. The staff were lovely, super attentive and even sang happy birthday and gave my mum an ice cream. The Korean bbq wings were a stand out, they were delicious and have been craving them ever since. Everything we had was extremely my tasty, the atmosphere is fanatic & very clean. The staff made us feel so welcome and we can’t wait to come back.

Amazing food, shocking service

I can't complain about the food here, it's 10/10 (despite being quite expensive). However customer service is shocking. We waited over half and hour to order (whilst seeing other tables being served who were seated after us), no apology of the wait, we were not asked how the food was. Waited ages after our plates were taken away, before someone dumped a dessert menu on our table. Ignored from start to finish.

Gensis

This review is based on having been vegan for well over a decade and having eaten anywhere from squats serving food made from ingredients salvaged from dumpsters to Michelin star vegan menus. Don't get me wrong - if you haven't eaten much vegan food this place will most certainly please your taste buds as it's a more than solid introduction into plant based fast food. Try it, you might want to skip animal products more than once a week! As a vegan restaurant however the experience is sub par to say the least in my opinion. The tacos were, despite being fairly large portions, quite dry and chewy and tasted like they were either pressed or heated up a while ago and reminded me of a store bought variety. The fillings were unfortunately drowned in a plethora of sauces too many of which are variations on vegan mayo that just over up most of the taste, not leaving enough room for anything else taste wise. I would not recommend them, at least when it comes to vegan tacos. The Mac and cheese were very disappointing - not only is the portion absolutely meager for the price (6.75 got me exactly 13 little pieces of pasta), it seems to be just pasta with some sort of melted vegan cheese, versus a proper cheese sauce. This makes the whole affair both unnecessarily fatty and not particularly tasty. Temple of Hackney does that significantly better and on point. The desert however was incredible - even though the Eton Mess lacks in presentation and is way too expensive for what it is, the aquafaba meringue and coconut creme are to die for. All in - I applaud the fact that it's another addition to the landscape of plant based food in London, but it leaves much to be desired for at a price that is too high for what is being offered.

Pros: Amazing desert

Cons: expensive

Over the top

Burger was a little messy, fries were good but nothing special. You have to like the overall vibe of the spot, but it’s not my kind of place. Still a fair and good to go when you are in town and wanna check it out.

Pros: Soft Casual Food

Cons: Strange lights, Tight seatings
