It's closing 😭 - Edit
I love this little cafe -the food is delicious and the service is excellent - but this is their last week of trading. We managed to fit in one final visit. Will be sorely missed.

Enormous portions of tasty vegan food! - Edit
My wife and I came here for brunch on our recent lakes holiday and very much enjoyed the enormous portions of very tasty food. We had the vegan pad thai and the vegan thali after much deliberation, and will for sure visit again in the future to try some of the other dishes!

Cute cafe! - Edit
I've visited gandhis cafe twice and enjoyed the food here both times. I've had the falafel wrap - which is massive - and also the hemp burger and George korma. My absolute favourite would be the hemp burger, it was delicious! The chocolate brownie is also very yummy and rich😄

Ambleside gem! - Edit
We ordered the big veggie breakfast (and made it vegan) with the homemade masala chai and it was nothing short of perfection! I was very impressed that they even had vegan spread (butter alternative) for the toast. I would go as far to say the best breakfast I have had.

Great little cafe. Carrot cake perfection. - Edit
I don’t use the words carrot cake perfection very often but I felt that they are fully deserved in this case. Really wonderful cake and the flapjacks looked top notch as well. All the cakes on offer on the day I visited were vegan other than the scones. The vegan breakfast looked fantastic and would certainly set you up pre or post walking. Great range of meals available at lunch time. Only downside is the size of the place. You may have to wait but it’s worth doing so.

Loved eating here - Edit
Gandhi’s cafe had a lovely atmosphere and great service as well as the fantastic food. I had a korma curry and hubby had a falafel kofta and it was all cracking. If we hadn’t been so full we’d have had desert too as there were numerous options that were very tempting.

Pros: Really great food , Lots of choice, vegan or vegan option, Reasonably priced

There's no surprise there's a queue! - Edit
We visited this lovely little cafe/restaurant twice on our trip to Ambleside and couldn't fault it.
Read moreThe food was delicious, the variety was fantastic (with plenty of vegan options) and the staff were super friendly. We had to wait in a queue outside on both occasions we visited, but it was so worth the wait and the staff kept coming out to apologise for the wait and giving us a rough timeline. I would highly recommend the burger and any of the sweet treats/cakes!
Delicious. If we are ever in Ambleside again, we will be sure to return.
Pros: Burger! and carrot cake, Friendly staff
Cons: The wait time, but that couldn't be helped.

Homely cafe with lovely food - Edit
Have eaten here a few times before for lunch and breakfast. On our latest trip to the Lakes we were delighted to discover that they are now opening on evenings on Fridays and Saturdays. Capacity very limited due to social distancing, and they don't take bookings, but it was well worth the wait on a Friday evening for a wholesome thali and a tasty flapjack. Also enjoyed their vegan chai. Staff friendly. Food like we'd have at home - thanks guys.

I wish I was close enough to eat there everyday 🥺 - Edit
Me and my boyfriend had a week long break in Ambleside and discovered this gem of a place early on (thankfully!). We had breakfast and lunch there over the week and words can’t describe how much we loved it there.
Read moreI find it hard to eat out being vegan and gluten free as a lot of the options are usually similar across all cafes but this wasn’t the case at Gandhi’s at all. The bread was high quality, they helped out with modifications and their breakfasts were to die for.
I miss you Ghandi’s Cafe - hopefully we’ll meet again 😭
Pros: Incredible food, Great allergen options , Friendly staff
Cons: That there’s not more of them around the country

Popular and rightly so. - Edit
Gandhi's never fails to have a decent range of Vegan meals and snacks to suit the merely peckish to the ravenous. Staters to deserts are fairly priced, and generous portions.

Lovely unique cafe in the Lakes - Edit
It’s hard to find vegan food in the Lakes, or the north of England in general (aside from major cities) so this was a lovely find. Wonderful staff, tasty food and well decorated cafe. It wasn’t just the usual vegan fare. It’s very small but it was charming! Would go back!

What An Awesome Place For Vegans & Excellent Covid 19 Precautions - Edit
Gandhi's Cafe is a vegetarian cafe and was closed when we last visited Ambleside at Christmas, so on our latest trip to the Lakes we went for lunch. Gandhi's is on a narrow ginnel called The Slack, which connects the two main streets and is in a lovely slate built building.
Read moreI emailed to ask about allergens and had a brilliant reply back from Mark, who explained which dishes I could have, so I felt relaxed during our visit. Gandhi's is very cosy inside and their Covid 19 precautions were excellent, sanitiser at the door before you entered, well spaced tables sanitised in between customers as well as the chairs, screens at the counter, so we felt very safe.
Hubby ordered a gluten free vegan beer made in Appleby and I had a Weston's Wyld Wood cider to quench our thirst, after a tough walk round the Fairfield Horseshoe. The menu has an extensive number of vegan dishes, to suit all palates and I noticed when orders were taken, people were asked if they wanted the vegan option.
I chose falafel kebab with tabbouleh and hubby went for the house salad and when the plates came, we knew we were in for a treat. You eat with your eyes and the colours were amazing, fresh food well prepared and presented and good sized portions. We tucked in and had no complaints, the dishes were scrumptious and hubby left not a morsel, the kebab defeated me but it was not for the want of trying. We were too full for cake, but the vegan choices were pretty amazing and next time I will definitely be partaking.
I loved everything about Gandhi's Cafe, great service, attention to detail, loads of vegan options, fantastic food, what's not to love. I have another trip planned to the Lakes later in the year and Gandhi's will be on the list to visit.
Pros: Vegan options, Vegan cakes, Vegan wines
