Such a lovely experience - Edit
This place did everything right. High quality dining with fantastic food in a relaxed environment.
Read moreFood menu was super tasty, composition felt very thoughtful and wine pairing was on point. (Even though you can honestly skip the aperitif, pairing is enough). Main courses felt very very high end. Presentation of the food was also excellent.
Timing of the courses was good, maybe a little bit two fast but even with a „break“ course in the middle and two seatings an evening it didn’t feel rushed. If you want a little bit more time, reserve the second seating. The staff was super kind and approachable. They made the experience very relaxed. Interior design is also very well done, contemporary and cozy. Seats (at least the benches at the side) are super comfortable.
Absolutely recommend to reserve beforehand, most days it is fully booked (for a reason).
Prices were good for what you get. Can’t complain at all, worth every penny.
Overall one of the best vegan dining options in Berlin!

Best restaurant that I have ever been - Edit
This is truly the best restaurant that I have ever been. But don't take only my word for it, the constant queue of customers outside speaks for itself.
Read moreWe went two times for breakfast, and: incredibly tasty and healthy food, amazing organization, clean bathrooms and friendly employees (you could see them having fun and joking between themselves, full of positivity).
It is truly inspiring to see a vegan restaurant to thrive this way.

Love the food and concept! - Edit
The food, service and atmosphere at Frea are amazing. I love the zero waste concept and high end dining! Impressed meat eating friends and they went above and beyond catering for relatives with extra dietary requirements!

An evocative food experience - Edit
I had high expectations before coming to FREA and I’m happy to report that I didn’t leave disappointed. Between my friend and I we basically had all 8 dishes available, plus the alcoholic beverages pairing and 3 wines. So I do have a lot to report on!😜I think FREA’s dishes are creative, flavourful and beautifully presented. I did find it curious that I could sense a lot of Latin-American (specifically Peruvian) influences. But this is their Spring menu and as it keeps changing seasonally, who knows next time (yeah, I hope theres a next time!). I particularly enjoyed the leeks with leche de tigre, which I ordered after dessert, ‘cause I know myself, and I like ending with savory flavours rather than sweet. I also enjoyed A LOT the mushroom ragu empanada which included cacao in the dough (I’m stealing this idea btw…) and the layered potatoes, which were served with a huacatay and green chili sauce which absolutely transported me to the streets of Old Delhi, where freshly fried samosas are served with a cilantro / mint / green chili sauce which tasted remarkably similar. The food was evocative and that is what one wants when having a dining experience - cause this is more than just dinner or “just food”, it’s of course an experience.
Read moreI reserved the seats by the counter to be able to watch the chefs in action. If you want privacy, of course ask for a table, but if you’re into cooking like I am, these were hands down the best seats in the house!!
I’m only confused as to why FREA is often marketed as “the world’s first ever vegan and zero waste restaurant” as I was under the impression that was Surplus Cambodia, by the influential plant-based zero waste chef Vojtech Vegh, which meanwhile closed.
Pros: All vegan, Highly respect their zero waste approach , Flavourful creative dishes
Cons: Service a little all over the place , Only 2 hours slots (we “had” to overstay), Pacing between dishes not consistent

Incredible - Edit
By far the best French toast and pastries I've had anywhere (vegan or not). Love this place, can't wait to come back while we're in Berlin. The staff are lovely, and went out of their way to accommodate me when I never even asked. I can't imagine a better place to be.

Am I the only one not super impressed? - Edit
I went to Frea for my birthday and was excited because of all the 5 star reviews. Was it good? Sure. Amazing? No. I’ve eaten at a lot of fine dining vegan restaurants and I wouldn’t put Frea in my top 5. Sorry!

See my profile for reviews of restaurants! The best vegan fine dining I’ve eaten has to be Millennium in California. There is another in Singapore and Tel Aviv that I would put higher.

The finest fine dining - Edit
For our second visit to Frea, we went with my whole family - including three kids under ten years old. I was a bit nervous about doing such a nice meal with kids, but Frea could not have been more accommodating. They have a kids menu (which is made up of ingredients you'll find in the regular multi-course meal) and they are flexible to meet the needs of the little ones. I also love that in addition to a pretty typical (for fine dining) wine pairing, they also offer an alcohol-free pairing option, which is really special.
Read moreThe food, the service, the presentation, and the atmosphere are all top notch, without being stuffy at all. No need to dress in your Sunday best - you'll always have a great experience.
Pros: Truly special experience from start to finish, Love the mocktail pairing option, Good for (well-behaved) children
Cons: It's expensive. But you get what you pay for!

The best vegan experience ever. Food is exceptional. We went for the 3 course option. So delicious it will not disappoint, seasonal menu changes every few months. Autumn options were devine, so hard to pick a favourite but I'll go with the mushroom tartare this time. Can't wait to return.
