We only stayed here for one night but found the hosts, Sylvia & Chris to be warm and welcoming hosts. The home cooked meal was lovely, we had the Roast which was nice and moist - followed by crumble for my partner, and the coffee and walnut gateau for me - both were excellent. The mattress was very comfortable for me, as I like quite a firm mattress, so I slept well.
The surrounding area is beautiful, and we would be happy to stay here again if we are in the area.
I found Fox Hall thanks to Happy Cow's directory. I only went here as I wanted to be close to Leighton Moss RSPB. My biggest disappointment is that we didn't book to stay longer! It was so peaceful and Sylvia is a top class host. She even got up early so we could have breakfast at 6.30am allowing us to be at Leighton for 7.30am. A wonderful lady who serves up properly hearty food.
Had a lovely long weekend here. The place is quiet but still handy for Kendal and other attractions. Sylvia and Chris are wonderful hosts and made us feel very welcome. The room had wonderful views across the Kent Valley. Sylvia is a brilliant cook and all our meals were excellent. It’s so nice to have a whole menu of delicious food to chose from and not have to worry about whether it involved animals.
What can we say…a ridiculously fantastic choice of all vegan food on the menu. We were 3 adults and all chose different starter, main and pudding and all were delicious. I don’t know how Sylvia managed it all, and all served hot and together!
Lovely place, lovely family
Will be going back very soon
Stayed here for one night as a pit-stop on a long journey. Wish we could have stayed longer! Rooms are cosy, beds are comfy, great views. Soya milk, coffee, and a variety of teas in the rooms. Faith in Nature wash stuff. The breakfast was SO GOOD. Sylvia and Chris were incredibly kind and welcoming. 10/10!!
Stayed overnight on a trip to Scotland, had dinner and breakfast at Fox Hall. Food delicious, room lovely, location ace, hosts brilliant and helpful. Highly recommend.
I stayed here for one night with a friend last week and it was absolutely wonderful - would highly recommend. Gorgeous rooms with excellent facilities and en suite bathrooms, plus the breakfast was incredible! A really lovely peaceful setting and excellent value for money. I’ll definitely come back for a longer stay if I can in the future.
We have just returned from a long weekend at this wonderful b&b. Sylvia is a very friendly and accommodating host and a fantastic cook! We had two nights bed, breakfast and evening meal plus a packed lunch provided by Sylvia on our full day. As well as being a vegan haven Fox Hall is also a great base for exploring the area. There is a bus stop across the road and you can catch direct buses to Kendal, Windermere and Keswick. Honestly can't recommend this place highly enough. We will be back soon!
Fox Hall is run by a caring couple, Sylvia and Chris, and it's totally vegan. They can provide evening meals (extensive menu) and packed lunches as well as excellent breakfasts.
We stayed in the Snowdrop room because it has a sofa to relax on and had dinner at the B&B every evening, taking the stress out of finding somewhere suitable to eat.
I just had a lovely, relaxing stay in the Snowdrop room. A cosy B&B with picturesque surroundings. The garden is lovely too. Sylvia was a lovely host & a brilliant cook! Bus stop is a 10min walk and the bus will take you into the Lake District (Windermere) in approx 50mins.
How wonderful to be able to enjoy a full breakfast at a B&B where you know everything is vegan! Evening meal was also good. Tasty home-cooked food that had a nostalgic feel (childhood favourites like chocolate pudding or crumble & custard). Nice room, pretty garden, peaceful views.
I stayed here with my Fiancee for two nights in the Lavender room. It's a perfect haven for Vegans! Very friendly and the food is really good and just shows how Vegan food should be! The location is really nice, with gorgeous views out to the country and the garden which has lot's of birds and wild rabbits!
My husband and I were in need of some R&R after a busy few months. We booked in for three nights in the Lavender room with a meal each evening.
The B&B itself is in a lovely location and is easy to find. The garden is beautiful with a model railway, ponds, benches plus loads of birds and rabbits. This was surrounded by far reaching views of fields. Perfect setting for some time out.
Inside the B&B it is homely and welcoming. There is a lounge to sit in with magazines, books and games. The bedroom was really comfortable and had a big windowsill, perfect for lounging with a book.
The food- breakfast and dinner - was absolutely spectacular. It was great just to be looked after for those few days. The portions for dinner were generous and superb quality. The breakfast was massively varied and really catered for all tastes. The fresh fruit, granola and yoghurt for me and a hot brekkie for the hubby.
Sylvia and Chris who run the B&B could not have been more accommodating. They really looked after us. The stay was absolutely everything we hoped for and needed.
Just got back from a two night stay at Fox Hall. Sylvia was a wonderful hostess and I cannot think of a single bad thing to say about her B&B.
The Lavender room was spotless and very comfortable, with a garden view where you can watch the rabbits and birds going about their business. There were lovely herbal tea and coffee options and I really appreciated the Faith in Nature products in the bathroom.
Breakfast was just amazing, so many wonderful options it was difficult to choose. I think my favourite of the weekend was the lemon sultana pancakes. The breakfast and guest area were both really comfortable and cosy with again, lovely garden views. There's a fantastic collection of vegan literature on hand, plus patchwork items available to buy.
We ate the evening meals both nights. Sylvia is a wonderful cook, there are so many options it's a bit overwhelming to choose, but on our first night we had the battered vegetables with lentil dahl and it was delicious. My husband loves trifle and he had the boozy black cherry trifle (which he probably would have demolished had he not been full of curry) and i had my first vegan cheesecake which was a solid 10/10.
Second night we both had the cashew and mushroom loaf, followed by sultana sponge pudding and chocolate orange gateau. Just what we needed, another 10/10.
Fox Hall is the perfect location for exploring the Lakes, we've really enjoyed our stay and are already looking forward to coming back. Our only regret is that we completely forgot to buy some jam! :)
Myself and my young daughter stayed here for a night and had a wonderful time. Sylvia and Chris were lovely hosts, very attentive. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The three course evening meal was delicious as was the breakfast the next day. It's a great experience when both you and your toddler daughter feel very welcome.
Currently staying at Fox Hall B&B and I can't recommend it enough! The location is so quiet and is a great base for exploring the Lake District.
I'm staying in the Lavender room which is clean and has a large window looking out onto the garden and countryside. The bed is very comfy, great night sleep.
Beautifully home cooked food for only £15 for three courses in the evening (if you want it). Great selection at breakfast including fruit, cereals, yogurt, pancakes, cooked breakfast etc.
I stayed one night at this sweet B&B. Sylvia was so kind and her cooking is superb! Everything is vegan and she made modifications for my gluten-intolerance - so I was able to eat everything, care free! The room I stayed in was lovely, with a great view out the front of green fields and sheep. It was clean, quiet and very relaxing. There are walking trails nearby and it was nice to explore down by the small river. Only wish I had had more time here :)
I stayed here for two nights, and loved it! The location is good, it's a really great base for exploring the Lakes. We stayed in the Sunflower Room, which was big, bright, clean and comfortable. The owners were really helpful and gave us some good advice about where to go - there are also lots of leaflets to help you if you're undecided. The breakfast spread is excellent - since becoming vegan, I've always felt a bit short-changed by breakfast buffets, and it was nice to have my pick here! The evening meals are only £15 for 3 courses, and you get some good hearty home cooking. We'll definitely be back next year!
This is my favourite B&B and the best place to stay when in the Lakes.
Comfortable rooms, excellent food with generous portions and the owners are great.
I love staying here.
We spent a weekend here last month and the family couldn't have been friendlier. My husband quizzed them at length about walks, and kayaks and bikes and blah blah and they didn't get sick of him. ;-)
Lovely choice of cooked breakfasts or usual cereal and fruit etc and optional 3 course evening meals (with a choice of two starters and desserts), which were lovely to go 'home' to.
My husband doesn't refer to the B&B by name, he just talks about 'Sylvia and Chris's'. :-)
We don't have many holidays but definitely intent to visit again and again.
Just spent 5 nights at Fox Hall and had a great time.
Room was super cosy and comfortable and full of useful things like a hairdryer and a Telly plus tonnes of local leaflets, bus timetables and so on.
Comfortable guest lounge. Really helpful walk information- the owners know the area and have walk sheets & maps and other info. They were always willing to stop and chat and give extra information about local sights.
Breakfasts great and the optional dinners were delicious. 3 courses for £15, choice of soft drinks.
Amazing views of South Lake District and great for walking.
The stables have a modest look from the outside. Inside is very clean with no frills. I immediately felt relaxed and at home there. For me the main selling point is the fresh and rather huge vegan banquet presented to us as an evening meal. Bowls of veg to share. Home made crumble. Absolutely loved it. Great value too.
My husband and I found this vegan B&B on happy cow before we were on the trip to lake district. We are so glad that we decided to stay in this vegan place. The house is cosy and comfortable. The room is very clean with fresh flowers picked from the garden. Good selection and big portion for breakfast. Home made dinner suits those who like natural and original taste. Owners are friendly and helpful long term vegans. Price is very reasonable for what you got. Definitely recommend it to friends.
Amazing vegan guesthouse with delicious food - Edit
We really cannot recommend this place highly enough. The rooms are gorgeous, very relaxing and spotlessly clean. The bathrooms are also very nicely decorated with vegan toiletries (Faith in Nature) provided. The owners, Sylvia and Chris, are really friendly and the food is just delicious. All vegan and what a choice, I just didn't know where to start but, if you stay for the optional evening meal, I have to recommend the Cherry Trifle, just like granny used to make. The portions for all meals are huge and after having breakfast you really do not need a lunch though they will make up a packed lunch, for a small extra payment, if needed (we didn't). The location is superb, just minutes from Kendal and only a short drive from Windermere, Bowness etc. If you are a vegetarian/vegan or just love good food don't miss this place. We will definitely be back.
