Student-run cafe serving wraps, sandwiches, smoothies, local teas, organic fair trade coffee, bagels, vegan baked goods, and more. Most food can be made vegan. Uses local and organic ingredients. Coffee roasted onsite. Frequented by students, professors, staff and is open to the public. Hours change with academic year. Directions: park next to the Chae Auditorium off Bay Shore Rd, and walk down the Dort Promenade, and Four Winds will be on your right. Debit cards accepted. NOTE: Closed June-July and December-January when students are not in class. Reported closed February 2025.

Nothing exceptional

Had a basic meal here. Nothing worth returning for but also the kind of place that could vastly improve with each new batch of student chefs.

Pros: A few vegan options, Affordable

Cons: Dry, Lacking flavor

great meals

Very good food,, super fast. Only open Monday through Friday, on the campus of New College, USF Sarasota, within walking distance of the Ringling Museum. Because we were there on Friday, and deliveries are made on Monday, they may have run out of some of the specials. Super casual, super good chow.

Pros: tasty, fast, reasonably priced

Cons: limited tables inside, may be pretty warm outside

Yum!!

Nestled in the middle of the New College of Florida's Bayfront campus Four Winds Cafe has a nice "hippy" vibe that I loved. Surrounded by barefoot women and long haired men I enjoyed their chickpea and rice bowl which was so much more than chickpeas and rice. Offered hot or cold (I chose hot), this bowl contains peas and spices and all kinds of goodies. You won't regret ordering this one!

Pros: Friendly Staff, Excellent food, cool vibe

Cons: Not always vegan dessert options

Great little place

While a little difficult to find, The Four Winds Cafe is a wonderful vegetarian restaurant run by students from the New College of Florida. The outdoor seating is pleasant and they're very familiar with veganizing one's food. With the current absence of Vibe Cuisine/Veggie Magic, this looks to be Sarasota's only all-vegetarian resaturant. Check it out!

Actually, there are a few others. Ionie's is definitely both vegetarian and vegan. Pretty sure Beauty of Sprouts is also both. We definitely need more, especially all-vegan, with lots of raw options, restaurants.
